Im not a fan of anime, but the concept of flying battleships is pretty cool
Take a look at Captain Harlock starting with the 1978 TV series Space Pirate Captain Harlock, a number of other related works and including Space Pirate Captain Harlock (2013 movie). Which redesigns the ship with vertical rings on the hull that allows the turrets to move from top to the sides or bottom for wider angles of fire
Skip the combo Captain Harlock with The Queen of Two Thousand Year. A smash-up non-coherent combination of two different stories from two different time periods into one.

This is a newer Starblazers. Original came out in 1974. 3 years before star Wars and 4 years before Battlestar Galactica. It was ground breaking and set up the next generation of Sci Fi.
And six years after Star Trek The Original Series.

I was a big fan of the original Star Blazers and the dubbed remake (Star Blazers 2199/2202) is a great fusion of the English language and the Japanese anime while keeping the Japanese names and story intact.
Even if you're not a fan of dubs, I can't recommend this series enough.

If your all into this type of stuff, I absolutely, highly recommend looking into Warhammer 40k in general, look up some stuff with Sabaton, I love the Lore in WH 40k, Absolute Dark and Grim, don't get any better then that.

Hmm Yamato only carry total about 36 fighters, some manage to eject before being hit, and they kinda rare doing dogfights also, the biggest casualty was 12 planes in single mission if I recall correctly.

In this large-scale battle? Most of the crew was replaced by a simulacrum.
Seems to be an overly complicated launch mechanism plus lots of unused space

Great Vid.......one question though........Even though I am a Star Blazer fan, since the 70's, I have not pick up on the Newer Yamato 2199, except for small clips like yours. My question is.... is the Comet Empire ships, are they drones....are EDF ships drones??!! ( I just feel that there are A LOT of people dying during the Battle of Saturn ).
Most EDF Ship is indeed drones except the flagship, the Blackbird squadron is also drones except the leader.
For Comet Empire, they use synthetic Humans, they are not really a drones, just synthtetic
In the original Japanese they are not drones but the for American release yes due to rules for cartoons which is as thick as an old telephone book.

Near the end, the Captain invited some of the bridge crew to his quarters for a drink of saki to toast the success of their mission. It was changed to the last bottle of spring water in existence. A better metaphor for Earth going to return to a living green and blue planet. Since the planetary bombing destroyed the eco-system making it a radioactive wasteland and dried up oceans.
Yamato would deploy its fighters more efficiently if it flew backwards... & the fighters simply back flipped in the direction they are ejected.

The Gamelons(sp?) really needed to invest in shields more than just more ships.
The ship actually can withstand almost all of earth vessel weapon at the time, Domelaze front armor can even bounce Yamato fire.
But well they are weaker from other side
I suppose Yamato used weapon of another energy pattern than the previous UNCF starships. Being a huge Star Trek fan, I associate green color of beams with disruptor weapon, red color with antiproton and blue with phaser (which is to specific for Star Trek) or plasma. And I just like the explanation I made: In the "Hoshi-Meguru Hakobune" full-metre special and "2202" series there was an alien race called Gatlantis/Gatrantis (I prefer option two) or White Comet Empire. They used green-color energy weapon, just like Earth UNCF starships before Yamato in episode one of "2199". And it was not very effective. So I suppose that Gamilas armor plating was engineered specifically to deflect disruptor weapon. Weapons on Yamato were laser (air defence and machine guns on interceptors, also might be antiproton, reverse-engineered from Gamilas ship debris), plasma (huge turrets on the top deck) and kinetic (projectiles and machine guns on the strike wing planes). None of those has an effect of disrupting the intermolecular links like disruptor does: kinetic impacts, laser and plasma cut and melt, antiproton annihilates. And plating designed to resist intermolecular disruption of disruptor energy becomes vulnerable and exposed to other types of energy weapon. The extra indirect proof: in episode one, while deflecting green beams, Gamilas ships were vulnerable to torpedoes.

@DemonicWeeb AMV Because it wasn't very efficient, but that was battleship not carrier and there isn't place to do large hanger when half of your ship is a cannon.

They had to build the ship in such a way as to be able to hide in plain sight as the wreck of the sunken IJN Yamato, lest it be discovered before it could be launched. Sacrifices to efficiency of design in many cases had to be made.
