- In this video we unbox and take a listen to the newly released, limited edition Planar 3 that Rega have unveiled to celebrate their 50th Anniversary.
Developed to maximise the performance of the legendary Planar 3, and available in the hugely popular walnut effect finish, the 50th Anniversary Edition is supplied with a hand-tuned Neo PSU Mk2 and factory fitted Rega Exact moving magnet cartridge, with a reference drive belt and custom CNC'd aluminium drive pulley as used on the Planar 6. Topping it all off is a custom aluminium lid and plinth badge, with a smoked dust cover.
And at just £899, this represents a saving of £269 compared to buying the separate components, essentially meaning you get a free Neo PSU (a worthwhile upgrade over the standard power supply) and a discounted reference drive belt, not to mention the unique 50th Anniversary badging.
This will be available to order from your local Rega retailer from now until December 2023. After that it will become a rare collector's item!
If you are local to our Lincolnshire showroom, please do give us a call or pop over to check the 50th Anniversary Edition out in real life (spoiler, it sounds better than this recording...) or use Rega's Dealer Map to find your closest store.

I'm waiting for mine, in july ! ;-) Ordered 2 weeks ago, can't wait.
Received yesterday ! That is a very Nice piece of hifi equipment. For the price tag it’s unbeatable
Went to a store to look at one the other day was so keen to buy but in the end went for the P6
The P6 is an excellent deck as well :)
Can you elaborate what was the difference you heard between the 2 turntable ?
How did it compare to the p6? I was wondering if this version narrowed the gap or if the p6 is still a large step up
I’d go for a P6 if you can stomach the increase in price. I had a p3 with the neo psu and the 6 outclassed it in every way, especially in noise floor. The plinth is made of a better material which I would say is the biggest difference. Heavier Platter and better sub platter (machine aluminum on the p6 vs plastic on the p3) This 50th is a better “value” though. You get more bang for your buck for sure over the P6, but you can’t make a P3 as good as any P6 and I think that comes down to deck material.
Installed 10 days ago. Legendary and easy to install turntable... As good as my LP12 I think :-) I'm really happy from the upgrade from a "basic" 2016 Planar 3 + Elys 2 to this new anniversary model. Well done REGA : ruclips.net/video/Do82yrXQLzs/видео.html
What dust brush do you use just before playing the record? Great vid
That price is great. The US has pre-order prices are around $1600 which almost 1300 pounds....I wonder why such a mark-up for the US?
I should imagine the taxman does nicely out of it.
Can you tell me what you have the Elicit mounted on please? Are those the Orea Bronze?
Hi There, They are IsoAcoustics Orea Indigo's rather than Bronze, Bronze is fine for the weight of the Elicit but the Indigo's give us a bit more flexibility with other products.
@@ExpressiveAudio Okay, I see. Thank you for your reply.
@@thebestoffools You are more than welcome, we absolutely love the IsoAcoustics products and find the improvements really very noticeable indeed :)
Rega and Project are always expensive in America as they are imported.
Does it have a ground wire to hook up to the receiver ?
Hey, how the ania pro will work with the p3 anniversary ? I'm considering to replace the exact to ania pro...
Have the aria 3 phono stage.
Any thoughts or recommendations??
Tnx a lot
HI there, The P3 Anniversary is up to supporting a Ania Pro and if you are already using an Aria then I would have thought it would definitely be a great move forward for you..
Kind Regards
John
Very, very nice audio rack.
There’s not a huge amount of difference between this and the p6 is there?
P6 has a better plinth. Also that doesnt look like aluminum subplatter on anniv model hmm.
Absolute beautiful turntable!
Fantastic video!
Now tell me if I am wrong but I was told in the past (46 years since first turntable) don't close the lid on a playing record as it will affect the sonics. What do you think, is it just a dust cover when not in use?.
Is it possible to replace plastic subplatter with aluminium one?
The subplatter isn't plastic.
I'd definitely advise checking on reputable sites like Cheshire Audio about this, while 3rd party after-market replacements are available, the bearing spindle tends to be inferior and they wear out very fast. The stock Rega subplatter will last for decades. If you were going to replace the subplatter on a P3 at all I'd suggest trying to source one from a P6 rather than going down the 3rd party route.
Hi There Multi, I have been in contact with Rega to ask their opinion on this for you and see if it would be a worthwhile upgrade, As an authorised Rega agent we would certainly recommend sticking with Rega for the subplatter rather than going 3rd party
I am interested only for origiinal Rega aluminium subplater...never mentioned any other option.
@@MultiTrumpetman Hi Multi, No problem I will find out the answer for you and let you know :)
Hi - is it normal for the belt to make a bit of a noise when starting up? (The noise goes away once at full speed)
Hi James, It certainly can happen, Yes, Its normally just the rubber of the belt gripping on the main sub platter causing the squeak.
And I emplore you to move your speakers away from the wall and further into the room for a better soundstage.
Easier said than done in your average sized home.
@ENGLISHISBEST I'm not saying several feet. Just anything is better than what you got, just try and see... it's free and you stand to gain. I live in an average size home and it's not that big of a deal.
They need to start designing better turntables at rega. Their basically cardboard with glass in between.
Rega designs have worked for 50 years . Would you prefer more plastic!!
I wouldn't mind buying one but not in that awful wood effect finish. It looks like that cheap wood effect panel from a 1970s kitchen. Would have preferred plain black or that nice lilac colour from the early 90s. Other than that it is a bargain and nothing will touch it for the money.
The wood effect is nicer in the flesh in my opinion, but if walnut is not your colour or does not match anything then I can see why going for the 50th is not an option for some people, however like you say as a combo its an absolute bargain. :)
As it is a 50th anniversary model, REGA did the same kitchen effect you mentioned from the 70's, that's pretty logical after all ! 🙂
