This methodology-along with personal finance and debt management-should be taught in high school. I would have been so much better prepared for life if I had this system in place (or at least followed its principles) going into university.

I used to think like you then I have realized if people wanted they would find it out like you did. Then I changed my thinking, it shouldnt be taught to everyone. They should just be taught the importance of knowledge which is what school offers. Thus, only people striving to be good can be good and better. Cruel or Realist. you decide.
The most valuable course I ever took, when I watched your video series for the first time, I knew that this system was what I wanted, I have spent a lot of time trying to build a system which organizes all aspects of my life, but limited by my knowledge and ability of system thinking . Like many, I've been eagerly awaiting this one. My Knowledge Lab sits waiting-staring back at me and begging to be utilized. I can't wait to implement this.
I actually proceeded to populate my Knowledge lab back in june, not knowing the breadth at which is going to be covered and the name sounds both all-encompassing and experimental in nature so I figured, why not experiment with how to use it and make my own self-discoveries as a System-Thinking greenie! I initially set it up as a Repository for things in my life I am researching on (Mobile Phone plans being one of them as the industry has gotten so much competition and changes in the last 2-4 years and it helps me, like August mentioned before, to have a central (somewhat) organised space to save my research and easily refer back and build on. The interaction with Notion has forced me to be more organised in a way I have never done before though it has taken a considerable amount of time to build it up, edit, build some more!

This is the most absolute PURE GOLD resource I have ever found for helping me take all the knowledge and learning I experience every day and organizing it so I can actually USE it!!!! I cannot thank you enough for sharing this! I've got piles of notes scribbled on random hotel note pads from conferences I've attended, with valuable pearls on them that I've never again seen because I had no way of organizing and accessing that info. I've got other piles of notes all over the place--binders, digital files, emails, iphone notes, etc that were lost ideas as soon as I wrote them. It was so frustrating to have no way of organizing my ideas so that I could find them again and take action on them. I've lost so much time to not being able to find things, not to mention the stress of not being able to find them, the frustration at the loss, and the duplication of work, as I struggle to recreate the same ideas again (if I can even remember them). This system solves all of that! Incorporating the Ideas DB into the Knowledge Lab template = GENIUS. Thank you again, a thousand times over.

I have soooo many notes from books, courses, articles, etc. that just sit there in Evernote notebooks. Having them just sit there without distilling them in some way has always felt like wasted time and money in some cases. Thanks for this demo. Have been waiting for this one! It takes me several hours to go through your main videos. I work along with my Notion workspace while watching your video. I used to think I didn't need Notion for compiling data or notes, just project and task management since I already use Evernote, but this video changed my mind! Now I just have to figure out how to import specific notes from Evernote to Notion.
One added benefit of this video is that we get a sneak peak into your reading list, and how it evolved since the last time you showcased your library. I'm sure I'm not the only one who got inspired to read a few titles thanks to this. Thanks!

I have been creating my own custom systems in Notion for almost 2 years now. I have setup several companies on Notion and built out the workflows necessary to capture tasks, meetings, and other. August, I sincerely appreciate your approach, systems, and workflow on Notion and will be adopting many of your methodology into my personal and future builds
This was just what I needed. I only use Notion for personal and side projects so I don't do much project management but I do a lot of capturing of websites and writing notes to remember things about general topics. This helps a ton!

Great video as are all your videos! To me personally (just because of the way my brain works) it makes more sense to start with knowledge management just like you suggested as an alternative in this video. I think it'll make me more confident when I'll really set up my project management. I want to share a suggestion with you for after you're done with your Vaults videos. A lot of your viewers (including me) want to use or are already using Notion for their studies. And I think that a lot of students will want to see how you would approach studying (note taking, planning, learning, etc.) in Notion. I myself am trying to balance my home life with my wife and our four children, my job as a marketing manager, my own business as a creator and a coach and also my studies. I believe that no other tool will be more beneficial to me than Notion. And no other person can teach how to benefit from Notion like you! :)
Good point Hashim, this is a totally viable place to start -- in fact it is easier to build the Knowledge Management vault section than the Project Management section. Also good thoughts on the approach for students. This could easily be applied to that, and certainly no other tool goes as far for this as Notion. Thanks!

I'm in the very early stages of starting a business and I think I'm going to put my resources for this business (how to get a business license etc.) into this knowledge lab, and when I create the notes section, place a linked version of that into my business area on the dash board. I think this is where those resources belong and I will always have them in a central location. Thank you for making this video.
Yes, this one is a totally viable starting point, and it can stand on its own independently of the rest. When ready, it plugs in and interacts with the rest as desired.
Finally a system that is aligned with how my brain works,. I try many systems, and most recently I tried to get a grip on PARA but it didn't make total sens to me, so many pieces that didn't work in that system. Thank you for your amazing work; I'm now hooked to the way your brain thinks. You have a new fan :)

Extremely insightful as usual, I've already adjusted to use many of those ideas to link the various vaults into a Hub. I had been doing that a bit differently, and I welcome the improvements! As for training and courses, I have been going at it differently, as I am very engaged in courses lately and they are tasks to me: I make a project with all the course information, and each lesson becomes a task, so whenever I complete the one task, I immediately set up the other with a do date, so I never "lose" the course within my action items. I take notes within the task itself, so by the end of the course, the "Project" is my knowledge hub for the course, and what I do in the vault is I just add an entry and link the project inside, so I can make use of the knowledge lab links to the knowledge area and everything else, but I still get to treat is as tasks/projects primarily, 'cause to me that's the best way to stay on track. Thanks again for the video!
Great thoughts Michele, a very sensible approach. Could also keep it the course in the vault, but que up a seines of tasks connected to the Vault entry just as you cue up tasks within a project. Embedded filter within to schedule days. Good approach either way!
To add to this - I started watching the overview and thinking "oh boy, this just looks like way too much and not at all what I'm looking for", and around about the point where you demonstrated how the Knowledge Lab bubbles up relevant information on a relevant topic, and how you can convert text on a page into text in the Knowledge Lab topic just by changing the object, the lightbulb went on. I'm now midway through reorganising and categorising my languishing book list.

Love it- thanks for the video! Like many others, I’ve been looking forward to this one. One suggestion for the Knowledge Lab pages: instead of dragging an Idea out into the page (which removes it from the Ideas database), or alt-dragging it (which makes a copy that’s now out of sync with the original Idea), you can just link to the original Idea. Several ways to do this: Option 1: Type @ and then type the name of the Idea. (The link will be inline) Option 2: Type / to bring up the menu, then choose Link to Page (The link will now be its own block) Option 3: Copy the Idea’s link, then paste it anywhere you like. (Various view options if you go this route)
But the point is to bring the Note with it's full content from its page/workspace (not just the title) into the body of the Knowledge lab main text area -- not as a link, but the actual text. By dragging it in, it creates a page, then in one click you can do "Turn Into" >> Text and the full contents of the note are now in the main text of the page. Not as good to have to link through in most cases. The / approach could do the same, though easier to drag than remember and type the Note's name. Useful tips for when you want a link to access the note. Thanks for pointing this out!

Thanks for the video! What I don’t like in Notion, especially when it comes to knowledge organization, is that there’s complete separation between different workspaces (private, team...). A lot of ideas/books/... apply to many areas of your life but you can’t access them cross-workspace.
Hi Bert! Databases and pages can be shared across workspaces -- for example you can embed a media DB from a private workspace into a page in a team/business workspace. But it is full access or nothing to the DB, not partial control/access (though I expect this will change eventually). When sharing across workspaces you have to keep an eye on guest permission settings (or public sharing status), and test to see what's working and what's not. But once set up you can have a dashboard that pulls from separate workspaces. Hope that helps!

I have also waited for your take on the Vault because almost all Notion videos on RUclips are about GTD but very little are about creating, managing and using the Vault. I hope you will (in a future video) touch on the whole process from start to finish of how an article comes into your system. So, the whole input part in your system. When you see an interesting article and you clip it, then what? What are your next steps? Where do you store the article? How do you process the article? And, most importantly, how do you use the knowledge from the article to your liking and your benefit? Thanks for all your great work! Really apreciate it!!

@@HarryHeijligers Good question Harry! Pull and enter parts and pieces of ideas, thoughts, inspiring sections from sources as you go. Then when you have a meeting, article, or some other need to pull it all together curate, organize and shape it into a clear format. Eliminate excess as you go. Do these organization/distillation efforts each time you need more on that topic, It forms into something powerful over time. Hope that helps!
Hi August, i just started using notion two days ago. And I found you and binged watch you! I love how you teach the mindset in systems thinking when you do your videos. I was using MS ONE NOTE and created a monster one that I teach my bosses how to do for their team management system. But i see that notion is on a whole new level! I subscribed to your newsletter and duplicated your templates. I parked them as reference only in my Notion and tried to recreate them so I can learn. I am able to learn it so fast and totally understand how deliberate each of your columns, check boxes, toggles, etc. I am now trying to understand the project database concept. Loved this! Roam initially got me into the thinking of linking notes and ideas, but I struggled with it. Your system is awesome. I made one adjustment for the "Knowledge Lab", and that is I have a database for "top level" topic tags (e.g. Productivity), and then a second level database for more varied tags. So let's say I have 3 notes that each have a second-level tag of "motivation", "clarity", and "efficiency". I also have those 3 tags set to be related to the top level tag of "Productivity" in my top-level database. So when I am trying to dig into "Productivity" in general, I will see notes not only tagged with Productivity, but also clarity, motivation, and efficiency. Each note will have a relation to the second and top level topics (due to rollups I think, even I lost track here). So in the "Productivity" record, I open that page and can see only notes with the "Productivity" property, even though I marked them with tags of "motivation", "clarity", and "efficiency." Hope that makes any sense. Hard to do without video! But when I'm thinking of tagging I want to be more specific, and have multiple tags depending what I'm researching, even though they all may fall under "Productivity". Now I have both!

So I have all my courses as projects atm, which makes most sense at a student, but I also want them collected in a vault, like the course vault, after finishing them. How can I solve this? Any tips?

After implementing the lookup updates, my projects are no longer connected to pillars. Is that supposed to happen? I was reviewing your flowchart and was curious where did the "Active Workspace DB" go in the knowledgebase? Information that is relevant to multiple projects - do we put that in the project or in the knowledge lab?
Nice Ariba! The "Active Workspace DB is the old name for what I am now calling the Knowledge Lab -- same thing. I think I might just call it the Knowledge Vault going forward, and call all the vaults "Vault" in their name for clarity. Projects don't have to be connected to Pillars, it's more important that Goals do (both kinds). I'm now using a pass-through mirrored Rollup to get the Pillars into Projects automatically without having to manually add a direct relational link. See my video on Automation with Roll-ups for that.

I’m new to Notion after seeing your video on another RUclipsr’s channel, where you really sold me on the value of this tool. I’ve done the Notion tutorials on their site and played with their base templates. Coming over to your page I’ve seen a few of your videos now but without going through your entire catalog like many of your audience seem to have, it’s been challenging to follow along. In this video for example I see that you have these vaults for storing raw information. Perfect. Then you indicate they’re linked to other places-ok, I want to better understand the “how” and the “why”-but this seems to be assumed that we already know what the connected place is. In my case I haven’t seen the 30+ minute long videos for these because I’m new to your channel. I then click those videos and the cycle repeats. I don’t want to emulate your system just because it works for you. I want to understand why and how you are doing what you’re doing so I can assess if it makes sense for me to work into my system. As Tim Ferris says, you want to eliminate before you automate, and I don’t want to create work for work’s sake. I realize you’ve built a powerful system, and I appreciate the time you’ve put into sharing your content to help other people with their productivity, but it’s complicated. I wish your content was a bit friendlier towards those who are newer, both to Notion and to your content, or have something brief to indicate where to find the related spin-off information. Otherwise it feels like constantly playing catch-up rather than retaining the valuable insight you’re sharing. Based on the other comments here I realize my experience is in the minority, but I wanted to share nonetheless as I like what you’re doing and want to build a similar system that works for me.
Hi Chris, I'm hoping you've gotten this inconvenience resolved and are well on your way to making the most with Notion. But should you still need some guidance...I'll suggest you start with/from the first video in this series. The series has 49 videos at this time and you'd get inundated if you start with the center course content (which I think you did). This is one solution. Alternatively (not recommended), you could look through the curated playlists (about 4+) that addresses different sections of the series and choose the playlist that most meets your need. But there's a caveat with this fix, you have to have a good grasp of Notion or you'd likely get inundated again. I hope this helps.
I’d gone ahead and set up my vaults prior to this video, ‘was’ pretty smug about them too...all the usual linked databases, bit of Thomas Frank’s approach thrown in etc etc...however, I’ve been eagerly awaiting this episode though to compare my vaults to yours, to see how far off the greatness of August’s LoS I am...answer, faaaaaaaar (totally set myself up for a fail here ha!)...as always, beyond masterful, and humbly grateful that I’ve been lucky enough to stumble across your work...an insight I’ve had watching this is just how much design goes in to the behaviour of the information going in to the entire PPV system and when it should surface for maximum impact, stuff you’ve mentioned numerous times before but with the penny dropping every time I watch/re-watch an episode...love the concept of knowledge hub categories (needless to say my ‘master vault’ is getting a rehash!) and information gathering in to these, definitely a game changer...will also be using your ROAM workflow I saw on Keep Productive, makes massive sense. Thanks as always, your efforts are hugely appreciated and are having a positive impact on my life, much gratitude 🙏
Thanks Stuart, really appreciate this incredible feedback. I like Thomas Frank a lot, but his Notion note-taking approach made no senses to me (a separate DB for each Notebook/category???). Most note-taking videos look at just note-taking by itself, not the full process of using them to build knowledge and fuel performance across the system.
August Bradley yeah Thomas Frank is a staple in my RUclips diet, a lot of time for this guy...and agree on the note taking system, I’d initially liked the ascetics of it, and downloaded his notes template...but by the time I’d finished tinkering with it it beared no resemblance to its former! Even the note taking roll-up dash didn’t make sense as a stand-alone, but was still good to work through this and dissect it, all part of the lesson right...I’m starting a with a new company in three months, I’ve chosen it as it’s a start-up and plan on building their entire oS using Notion (small enough to not be impacted by the short-term absence of APIs)...enjoying the process of building personal and business systems sequentially, and playing with linking data flows beyond one workbook (giving an extra dimension), hopefully there’ll be some ‘business’ videos later in your series though? (we ask too much ha!) ..in the meantime, William Nutt’s stuff is pretty decent, albeit bit more varied in his to oS recommendations (but maybe this is more appropriate approach for business builds?)...also his free icons are awesome ha! Speaking of team category. Is there a way to create a dashboard eg for Sales and create view with thoughts around sales and share it with sales team, but separate it from Thoughts with other Team Category so other teams don't have access to it?
The core template pack has all the templates I've created to date, which are some of the most capable available in Notion (particularly the full Action Zone). The upcoming course to be announced in detail within a week or so will have the version 2.0 master PPV template with everything.
Love this. I'd actually pay someone to turn the aggregation of my ideas/ summaries from books and articles into mini tests. I would learn so much better if each morning I could run through a selection of previously accumulated knowledge in the form of questions, with hidden answers. It'll make me really think and, in turn, retain better. 🧠😁 I suppose you also learn by teaching... so maybe the test should be created by me? Could hide answers within toggles...

This is a really great video, just like the others from August. One question is whether the Knowledge Lab replaced the Research Workplace (In-Action Studio)? I've had references in Notion to that for some time, and it appears like the Knowledge Lab is the successor to that table, but I wanted to make sure before I re-reference them.

This methodology-along with personal finance and debt management-should be taught in high school. I would have been so much better prepared for life if I had this system in place (or at least followed its principles) going into university.

I used to think like you then I have realized if people wanted they would find it out like you did. Then I changed my thinking, it shouldnt be taught to everyone. They should just be taught the importance of knowledge which is what school offers. Thus, only people striving to be good can be good and better. Cruel or Realist. you decide.

I actually proceeded to populate my Knowledge lab back in june, not knowing the breadth at which is going to be covered and the name sounds both all-encompassing and experimental in nature so I figured, why not experiment with how to use it and make my own self-discoveries as a System-Thinking greenie! I initially set it up as a Repository for things in my life I am researching on (Mobile Phone plans being one of them as the industry has gotten so much competition and changes in the last 2-4 years and it helps me, like August mentioned before, to have a central (somewhat) organised space to save my research and easily refer back and build on. The interaction with Notion has forced me to be more organised in a way I have never done before though it has taken a considerable amount of time to build it up, edit, build some more!

This is the most absolute PURE GOLD resource I have ever found for helping me take all the knowledge and learning I experience every day and organizing it so I can actually USE it!!!! I cannot thank you enough for sharing this! I've got piles of notes scribbled on random hotel note pads from conferences I've attended, with valuable pearls on them that I've never again seen because I had no way of organizing and accessing that info. I've got other piles of notes all over the place--binders, digital files, emails, iphone notes, etc that were lost ideas as soon as I wrote them. It was so frustrating to have no way of organizing my ideas so that I could find them again and take action on them. I've lost so much time to not being able to find things, not to mention the stress of not being able to find them, the frustration at the loss, and the duplication of work, as I struggle to recreate the same ideas again (if I can even remember them). This system solves all of that! Incorporating the Ideas DB into the Knowledge Lab template = GENIUS. Thank you again, a thousand times over.

I have soooo many notes from books, courses, articles, etc. that just sit there in Evernote notebooks. Have been waiting for this one! It takes me several hours to go through your main videos. I work along with my Notion workspace while watching your video. I used to think I didn't need Notion for compiling data or notes, just project and task management since I already use Evernote, but this video changed my mind! Now I just have to figure out how to import specific notes from Evernote to Notion.

I have been creating my own custom systems in Notion for almost 2 years now. I have setup several companies on Notion and built out the workflows necessary to capture tasks, meetings, and other. This was just what I needed. I only use Notion for personal and side projects so I don't do much project management but I do a lot of capturing of websites and writing notes to remember things about general topics. This helps a ton!

To me personally (just because of the way my brain works) it makes more sense to start with knowledge management just like you suggested as an alternative in this video. I think it'll make me more confident when I'll really set up my project management.
I want to share a suggestion with you for after you're done with your Vaults videos. A lot of your viewers (including me) want to use or are already using Notion for their studies. And I think that a lot of students will want to see how you would approach studying (note taking, planning, learning, etc.) in Notion.
I myself am trying to balance my home life with my wife and our four children, my job as a marketing manager, my own business as a creator and a coach and also my studies. I believe that no other tool will be more beneficial to me than Notion. And no other person can teach how to benefit from Notion like you! :)
Good point Hashim, this is a totally viable place to start -- in fact it is easier to build the Knowledge Management vault section than the Project Management section.
Also good thoughts on the approach for students. This could easily be applied to that, and certainly no other tool goes as far for this as Notion. Thanks!

I'm in the very early stages of starting a business and I think I'm going to put my resources for this business (how to get a business license etc.) into this knowledge lab, and when I create the notes section, place a linked version of that into my business area on the dash board. I think this is where those resources belong and I will always have them in a central location. Thank you for making this video.

Yes, this one is a totally viable starting point, and it can stand on its own independently of the rest. When ready, it plugs in and interacts with the rest as desired.

Extremely insightful as usual, I've already adjusted to use many of those ideas to link the various vaults into a Hub. I had been doing that a bit differently, and I welcome the improvements!
As for training and courses, I have been going at it differently, as I am very engaged in courses lately and they are tasks to me: I make a project with all the course information, and each lesson becomes a task, so whenever I complete the one task, I immediately set up the other with a do date, so I never "lose" the course within my action items.
I take notes within the task itself, so by the end of the course, the "Project" is my knowledge hub for the course, and what I do in the vault is I just add an entry and link the project inside, so I can make use of the knowledge lab links to the knowledge area and everything else, but I still get to treat is as tasks/projects primarily, 'cause to me that's the best way to stay on track.

Great thoughts Michele, a very sensible approach. Could also keep it the course in the vault, but que up a seines of tasks connected to the Vault entry just as you cue up tasks within a project. Embedded filter within to schedule days. Good approach either way!

To add to this - I started watching the overview and thinking "oh boy, this just looks like way too much and not at all what I'm looking for", and around about the point where you demonstrated how the Knowledge Lab bubbles up relevant information on a relevant topic, and how you can convert text on a page into text in the Knowledge Lab topic just by changing the object, the lightbulb went on.
I'm now midway through reorganising and categorising my languishing book list.

Love it- thanks for the video! Like many others, I’ve been looking forward to this one.
One suggestion for the Knowledge Lab pages: instead of dragging an Idea out into the page (which removes it from the Ideas database), or alt-dragging it (which makes a copy that’s now out of sync with the original Idea), you can just link to the original Idea. Several ways to do this:
Option 1: Type @ and then type the name of the Idea. (The link will be inline)
Option 2: Type / to bring up the menu, then choose Link to Page (The link will now be its own block)
Option 3: Copy the Idea’s link, then paste it anywhere you like. (Various view options if you go this route)
But the point is to bring the Note with it's full content from its page/workspace (not just the title) into the body of the Knowledge lab main text area -- not as a link, but the actual text. By dragging it in, it creates a page, then in one click you can do "Turn Into" >> Text and the full contents of the note are now in the main text of the page. Not as good to have to link through in most cases. The / approach could do the same, though easier to drag than remember and type the Note's name. Useful tips for when you want a link to access the note. Thanks for pointing this out!

Thanks for the video! What I don’t like in Notion, especially when it comes to knowledge organization, is that there’s complete separation between different workspaces (private, team...). A lot of ideas/books/... apply to many areas of your life but you can’t access them cross-workspace.
Hi Bert! Databases and pages can be shared across workspaces -- for example you can embed a media DB from a private workspace into a page in a team/business workspace. But it is full access or nothing to the DB, not partial control/access (though I expect this will change eventually). When sharing across workspaces you have to keep an eye on guest permission settings (or public sharing status), and test to see what's working and what's not. But once set up you can have a dashboard that pulls from separate workspaces. Hope that helps!

I hope you will (in a future video) touch on the whole process from start to finish of how an article comes into your system. So, the whole input part in your system. When you see an interesting article and you clip it, then what? What are your next steps? Where do you store the article? How do you process the article? @@HarryHeijligers Good question Harry! Pull and enter parts and pieces of ideas, thoughts, inspiring sections from sources as you go. Then when you have a meeting, article, or some other need to pull it all together curate, organize and shape it into a clear format. Eliminate excess as you go. Do these organization/distillation efforts each time you need more on that topic, It forms into something powerful over time. Hope that helps!

Hi August, i just started using notion two days ago. And I found you and binged watch you! I love how you teach the mindset in systems thinking when you do your videos. I was using MS ONE NOTE and created a monster one that I teach my bosses how to do for their team management system. But i see that notion is on a whole new level! I subscribed to your newsletter and duplicated your templates. I parked them as reference only in my Notion and tried to recreate them so I can learn. I am able to learn it so fast and totally understand how deliberate each of your columns, check boxes, toggles, etc. I am now trying to understand the project database concept. It’s not yet clicking lol.

Loved this! Roam initially got me into the thinking of linking notes and ideas, but I struggled with it. Your system is awesome. I made one adjustment for the "Knowledge Lab", and that is I have a database for "top level" topic tags (e.g. Productivity), and then a second level database for more varied tags. So let's say I have 3 notes that each have a second-level tag of "motivation", "clarity", and "efficiency". I also have those 3 tags set to be related to the top level tag of "Productivity" in my top-level database. So when I am trying to dig into "Productivity" in general, I will see notes not only tagged with Productivity, but also clarity, motivation, and efficiency.
Each note will have a relation to the second and top level topics (due to rollups I think, even I lost track here). So in the "Productivity" record, I open that page and can see only notes with the "Productivity" property, even though I marked them with tags of "motivation", "clarity", and "efficiency."
Hope that makes any sense. Hard to do without video! But when I'm thinking of tagging I want to be more specific, and have multiple tags depending what I'm researching, even though they all may fall under "Productivity". Now I have both!

Nice Ariba! The "Active Workspace
DB is the old name for what I am now calling the Knowledge Lab -- same thing. I think I might just call it the Knowledge Vault going forward, and call all the vaults "Vault" in their name for clarity.
Projects don't have to be connected to Pillars, it's more important that Goals do (both kinds). I'm now using a pass-through mirrored Rollup to get the Pillars into Projects automatically without having to manually add a direct relational link. See my video on Automation with Roll-ups for that.

I’m new to Notion after seeing your video on another RUclipsr’s channel, where you really sold me on the value of this tool. I’ve done the Notion tutorials on their site and played with their base templates.
Coming over to your page I’ve seen a few of your videos now but without going through your entire catalog like many of your audience seem to have, it’s been challenging to follow along. In this video for example I see that you have these vaults for storing raw information. Perfect. Then you indicate they’re linked to other places-ok, I want to better understand the “how” and the “why”-but this seems to be assumed that we already know what the connected place is. In my case I haven’t seen the 30+ minute long videos for these because I’m new to your channel. I then click those videos and the cycle repeats.
I don’t want to emulate your system just because it works for you. I want to understand why and how you are doing what you’re doing so I can assess if it makes sense for me to work into my system. As Tim Ferris says, you want to eliminate before you automate, and I don’t want to create work for work’s sake.
I realize you’ve built a powerful system, and I appreciate the time you’ve put into sharing your content to help other people with their productivity, but it’s complicated. I wish your content was a bit friendlier towards those who are newer, both to Notion and to your content, or have something brief to indicate where to find the related spin-off information. Otherwise it feels like constantly playing catch-up rather than retaining the valuable insight you’re sharing. Based on the other comments here I realize my experience is in the minority, but I wanted to share nonetheless as I like what you’re doing and want to build a similar system that works for me.

I'm hoping you've gotten this inconvenience resolved and are well on your way to making the most with Notion. But should you still need some guidance...I'll suggest you start with/from the first video in this series. The series has 49 videos at this time and you'd get inundated if you start with the center course content (which I think you did). This is one solution.
Alternatively (not recommended), you could look through the curated playlists (about 4+) that addresses different sections of the series and choose the playlist that most meets your need. But there's a caveat with this fix, you have to have a good grasp of Notion or you'd likely get inundated again. I hope this helps.
I’d gone ahead and set up my vaults prior to this video, ‘was’ pretty smug about them too...all the usual linked databases, bit of Thomas Frank’s approach thrown in etc etc...however, I’ve been eagerly awaiting this episode though to compare my vaults to yours, to see how far off the greatness of August’s LoS I am...answer, faaaaaaaar (totally set myself up for a fail here ha!)...as always, beyond masterful, and humbly grateful that I’ve been lucky enough to stumble across your work...an insight I’ve had watching this is just how much design goes in to the behaviour of the information going in to the entire PPV system and when it should surface for maximum impact, stuff you’ve mentioned numerous times before but with the penny dropping every time I watch/re-watch an episode...love the concept of knowledge hub categories (needless to say my ‘master vault’ is getting a rehash!) and information gathering in to these, definitely a game changer...will also be using your ROAM workflow I saw on Keep Productive, makes massive sense. Thanks as always, your efforts are hugely appreciated and are having a positive impact on my life, much gratitude 🙏
Thanks Stuart, really appreciate this incredible feedback. I like Thomas Frank a lot, but his Notion note-taking approach made no senses to me (a separate DB for each Notebook/category???). Most note-taking videos look at just note-taking by itself, not the full process of using them to build knowledge and fuel performance across the system.
August Bradley yeah Thomas Frank is a staple in my RUclips diet, a lot of time for this guy...and agree on the note taking system, I’d initially liked the ascetics of it, and downloaded his notes template...but by the time I’d finished tinkering with it it beared no resemblance to its former! Even the note taking roll-up dash didn’t make sense as a stand-alone, but was still good to work through this and dissect it, all part of the lesson right...I’m starting a with a new company in three months, I’ve chosen it as it’s a start-up and plan on building their entire oS using Notion (small enough to not be impacted by the short-term absence of APIs)...enjoying the process of building personal and business systems sequentially, and playing with linking data flows beyond one workbook (giving an extra dimension), hopefully there’ll be some ‘business’ videos later in your series though? (we ask too much ha!) ..in the meantime, William Nutt’s stuff is pretty decent, albeit bit more varied in his to oS recommendations (but maybe this is more appropriate approach for business builds?)...also his free icons are awesome ha! Speaking of team category. Is there a way to create a dashboard eg for Sales and create view with thoughts around sales and share it with sales team, but separate it from Thoughts with other Team Category so other teams don't have access to it?
Are those Korean books on the shelf in the bottom right hand corner of the screen?

The core template pack has all the templates I've created to date, which are some of the most capable available in Notion (particularly the full Action Zone). The upcoming course to be announced in detail within a week or so will have the version 2.0 master PPV template with everything.

Love this. I'd actually pay someone to turn the aggregation of my ideas/ summaries from books and articles into mini tests. I would learn so much better if each morning I could run through a selection of previously accumulated knowledge in the form of questions, with hidden answers. It'll make me really think and, in turn, retain better. 🧠😁 I suppose you also learn by teaching... so maybe the test should be created by me? Could hide answers within toggles...

It is a new feature, that it shows up in the actual video player timeline. Cool isn't it!

This is a really great video, just like the others from August. One question is whether the Knowledge Lab replaced the Research Workplace (In-Action Studio)? I've had references in Notion to that for some time, and it appears like the Knowledge Lab is the successor to that table, but I wanted to make sure before I re-reference them.
Exactly Jeff, good eye! Research Workplace (In-Action Studio) is the old name of what I know call the Knowledge Lab. Exact same thing.
