- David Pocock is one of Australia’s great rugby union players, but it’s what he fights for off the field that has attracted fans beyond the game. A chance window between matches allowed the champion to let two of his other passions come together - wildlife photography and environmental conservation - in the Takayna or Tarkine Rainforest, in Northwestern Tasmania.
The Tarkine is home to thousands of species including Tasmanian devils, wallabies, wombats, goshawks and the giant wedge-tailed eagle. It’s a rare forest region still relatively untouched by human civilisation for over 60 million years. But without national park or World Heritage status it’s under threat from logging, mining and industrial development.
For David, powerful imagery can help raise the awareness of what is a complex conservation challenge to save one of the world’s last truly wild ecosystems. “Who are we apart from where we live? Places like this, should belong to all Australians, and be preserved for all.”

A great player on the field and an even better human being off it. David Pocock is an epitome of a role model.
So awesome to have David and the crew visit us at Raptor Care North West, and we are so proud we could be a part of this story. Thankyou David for raising awareness on the plight of the Wedgetailed Eagle and your continued dedication to wildlife conservation. As you can see we are a humble backyard rehabilitation centre doing our best to care for these injured birds, so we are currently fundraising for a new flight aviary and expanding our rehabilitation area so we can continue our important work.

What a great approach by Canon and David. Congrats to both on getting the message out there in a unique way.
I guess im randomly asking but does any of you know of a method to log back into an instagram account??
I was dumb forgot my account password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me
@Sonny Elliot instablaster :)
@Kendall Javion Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and im in the hacking process now.
Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
What a pleasant surprise - never thought of David Pocock as a photographer and environmentalist. The Tarkine was on my to do list for this year's holiday, but not sure when they will let NSW residents back into Tasmania. Unbelievable that places like the Tarkine are still under threat from miners and loggers
The world needs more people like you David 👍
Modern White so called Aussies have become completely disconnected from nature with our only honour being the dollar and selfishness.
There are ways we can enjoy capitalism and money whilst being responsible, sensible and stewards of the environment.
Amazing
I would love to go here sometime to see the eagles, how did you get the flying B-roll? Drone?
Nice Work ;)
