Nowt wrong with a little bit of DIY in order to improve something. I do love the look of this kewler, and not just cos its RGB-less, its a nice design....Nice one Thermaltake and thanks Mike and Kath for sharing 🙂
13:10 May be more effective to mount the mid fan to the back of the front tower so it's forced to draw through it, though mounting a fan front face to any kind of grille can increase noise as the blades chop past edges
If this was my cooler, I would replace both fans with a 120mm front mount and 140mm mid mount Noctua high pressure fans. Yes the Noctua fans would get loud over a 1000rpm, but run them under 1000 rpm with the high static pressure and I think you would be more than fine. Those stock fans were not engineered properly or thought out either in my opinion? Thanks for sharing Mike and Lady Kath. Take care, cheers.
@@mikesunboxing Cool. Yeah those Noctua fans can get loud in a hurry. I believe Thermaltake or Thermalright also sell high pressure fans. Maybe your contacts could help you out? Later.... Cheers
Best to choose the right fanny for the job Mike, better to have two fannies for efficiency! Make sure your fannies have some clearance for the right ram 🐏 knobs!
I think you should be able to mount the front fan to the BACKSIDE of the front tower. Just flip the clips around to continue pulling air thru from the back. Mount the other fan on the backside of the rear tower as well. Is this not possible, or did I just fall asleep while watching your video? It's been a LONG day. I'm now on 4 days a week, 10 hours a day. But those 3 day weekends!!!! That's MAGIC!!!!
Just curious, maybe I missed it, but why did you attach both fans on the rear tower instead of the middle one to the front and the back one to the back tower? Nice cooler BTW
i did try various configurations of mounting but didn't include the footage of them all. there was minimal if any difference between the mounting methods from what i can tell
The size of efficient air coolers is driving me nuts right now. I've since learned that the bloody shroud on the ASUS ROG Strix z690-E IS a problem for everyone who want to cool with air. 😩 Looks like I'll be getting my first water cooler.
😏👍 yeah bro, i picked up that motherboard and I didn't notice that that motherboard uses a super tall heatsink over the vrm capacitors, its not meant for air coolers, so I went back to the store and picked up a 240 radiator for it, fortunately that height of heatsink is not common across motherboards, most boards have lower heat sinks
Great work Mike I have a question unless I missed something on the video... What is the stock ram clearance of the cooler if you don't move the fans upwards?
Next Checkout the Scythe Mugen 6 Black Edition with Two Fans, just got released about 30 days ago, its a big chunky single tower cube cooler, the heatpipes are tilted towards the back of the case and it was designed that way so that you can use both of the fans, the front fan is far enough back that all four ram slot are clear, so u can swap out all your argb ram stocks without removing the fan, also all four argb ram sticks will light up and the front fan will not be blocking the light show, all four ram sticks can be extra tall with heat spreaders and they will be free and clear of the front fan, just make sure you use both fans because you really need both fans to push the hot air through the big chunky cube cooler. I made a quick and dirty unboxing video if ur curious cause no big channel has reviewed it yet? It's under the radar for some reason. And for honorable mention also checkout the FUMA 2 which is similar to this thermaltake but has the tilted heat pipes so all the ram slot are free however theres no black edition yet so get the mugen 6 instead. 🙂
Looks good but I’m happy with my ak620 where I can use any fans I want (I use noctua reduxes) and you have stuff like the PA and PS coolers at £20 or so less than this- another great review though!
Initially thought looks complicated but stealthy and huge fans! No wonder its quiet but then why should you "diy" when paying top prices. As suggested by another put 120mm at front so both profile and ram clearance maintained. Plus if you mount fan over vrms are you in danger of causing air turbulence with rear case fan? Looks quality unit but needs more thought. Thanks for reviewing Mike and Kath 🐈👍
it is more of a diy project to get the best out of it, unless you have really tiny RAM modules. but even with the front fan removed it still has a lot of cooling potential and looks mean!
Hi Mike, Thermaltake makes excellent cases. I intentionally left off the words 'and coolers too.' I've had too many RMAs after buying their air coolers. Maybe these are better?
@@mikesunboxing The first one arrived DOA, and the second one had bearing screaming a month after I received it. Don't worry; I've gotten used to these things after 30 years.
Two fans on a dual tower is pretty excessive IMHO. The Noctua D15s has shown me that a good dual tower design and big single fan in the middle is more than enough. The only scenario where dual fans seem to make sense is with single tower coolers as that gives just enough ram clearance.
I would be interesting to see the performance difference with a smaller fan say 100mm or 80 mm. Im sure Ive seen a similar system with two different sized fans, maybe to overcome this issue.
the trouble is finding a suitable method to mount the smaller fans, the cable tie though the finstack is about all you can do really due to the odd sizing
@@mikesunboxing Actually I bought the thermaltake CTE700 the fans were not as quiet as expected. so swapped them out for be quiet! Silent Wings 2 PWM (140mm) which are very good. the Bequiet cooler dark rock 4 fan was noisy so swapped it out for one of thee silent wings (made new spring wires to fit)

there are a few options with this cooler that i am going to try at some point and that one you suggested is definitely a good one.
enjoy your weekend!
Great review, and excellent feedback for Thermaltake to solve the ram clearance, installation problems.
Glad you enjoyed it, hopefully if there is a V2 model they take onboard some of the things we found out during the testing
A good review! I like your honesty! Thanks!
Maybe a 120 mm fan could sit in the front?
Why do you hide your right hand? ;-)

I'm not an air-cooler guy, but the nickel-plating and and overall look (I AM a Tt guy) have me looking hard...👀
it has been presented very well. shame that the fans are a little bit too customised for this cooler

lots of good water cooling options on the market right now. maybe look at the thermaltake TH range, but get the V2 models the pump is much better
