  • On Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, there's a summer tradition: "mail jumping". It's a bit dangerous, a bit ridiculous, and would never be allowed to start today. But it's a tradition. ■ Thanks to the Lake Geneva Cruise Line: www.cruiselakegeneva.com/

@@Timeyy The postal service in the USA isn't perfect, but it is very good compared to a lot of other countries in terms of how well it actually does work.
It was designed around rural parameters, and before rail and cars and whatnot. The US is preposterously large, and a good portion of people don't live anywhere near anything even resembling a city.
Coast to coast is well over 40 hours of driving. That's more than a work week to just traverse the country, with no stops.
Paris to Moscow is only 30 hours.

I'm also very impressed how close they drive by the piers. With that speed and the boats are not small, a crash would certainly deal some good damage.

Since you seemed to enjoy delivering mail by boat so much: In Lehde (Spreewald) in Germany, about 60 houses have two mailboxes, one on the road side for winter, and one on the lake side for summer. Not sure which one is more physically demanding - the boat in Lehde doesn't even have an engine, you'd be punting it on the whole route.

The best part about tom scott visiting your country is that he informs you of something you never knew existed in your own backyard.

It’s always so fun to watch Tom try things out, and this incredibly wacky mail delivery system was very good to watch! Always so happy to see how motivated you are to overcome challenges!
