If I had the opportunity to make $400k+ flipping a single watch - I would absolutely do it (even if it meant I got blacklisted). The fact is this is a once in a lifetime moment of factors (inflation, pandemic, peak luxury watch demand). Take the money and don't look back
I really look forward to T&H videos. Your channel chemistry, family, everything you do for the watch industry, is why I keep coming back to watch more.

Being from Staten Island guys like that guy are why I wont add a Rolex to my collection. Everyone on Staten Island who has one knows nothing and just buys them for the name. Wont be lumped into that mess.
I inherited my grandads omega geneve dynamic from the 70s. The oval shaped case is quite a different look. It was in awful shape but I sent it back to Omega for a fiull service and strap replacement. Love wearing it and knowing not many people have anything similar hah.
Really entertaining discussions. Crown down? I always place my watch down with the dial facing up (back of watch rests against the bracelet/buckle, usually I try to make a stand out of it so the dial is elevated at an angle, if that makes sense)
Worked in a jewelry store back in college. One of the hardest things to do was tell people, who brought in what they thought was valuable, that their pieces were fake.
Hey, have you guys ever thought about releasing the audio for these videos in podcast form? A few channels i follow, notably the Pete and Sebastian Show, does this. I think it would be pretty cool because sometimes I, and im sure other people, would love to listen to this as their driving or walking or taking the train.
TheWatchGuys channel covered the story behind auctioning the green 5711. Basically, it was sold by the Patek AD that recently closed down and needed to get rid of their inventory. They didn't care about being blacklisted by Patek.
Thank you so much 🙏 For the content. For being open to any brand regardless the price or hype. For being honest and authentic. For being so entertaining and cool. @Christian for admitting that you love your family. I feel like in quarantine - locked at home - but you made my day 👍
I rest my watch on the crown for the same exact reason. I’ve heard it can affect the movement, but it helps my watch still look pretty. Ya know, priorities. Thanks for the great content fellas, look forward to these discussions every week. It’s like an awesome podcast but with more chest hair.
Cartier occasionally still does the whole visceral shapes inspiration thing! The Ballon Bleu being inspired by a pebble one of the most major, and it's been Cartier's best seller since its inception about 15 years ago!
Also, watch makers tune the watch with the crown like that because it’s the position your watch is in most of the time (if you’re right handed). Arm to your side, crown facing the ground, which is the same as putting the watch on the crown on the table. My watch maker said when you sleep leave it on the table with the crown down. It’s how it runs most optimal. (Or so I’ve heard)
I heard the person that auctioned off that Patek was the son of some prominent jewelry store and Patek AD in the UK… I believe they recently went out of business or lost their AD license with Patek and they had that watch and auctioned it.
@@pjyothi6533 Rudy Kurniawan was possibly the greatest wine counterfeiter, who fooled great wine collectors like Bill Koch. When it all started to unravel Rudy stated that he received the wines from a collector in Indonesia called Pak Hendra. Pak actually means 'Mr' and Hendra is a very common name, so basically he was saying 'Mr Smith'! Watch the documentary 'Sour Grapes', which tells the story and is excellent viewing!
So funny, my dad gave me a Fake Rolex in 2010 when I was in my final year of High school and I wore it everyday to school for three months before the bracelet broke and the timekeeping couldn't follow up the real time. Nobody noticed it and I had zero comments about it. However, that's how my horological journey started and today I still have that destroyed fake Rolex in a drawer, as a souvenir.
Counterpoint to the crown position, when movements proclaim they are adjusted to 5 positions, the 6th is usually the crown position which means resting it like that makes your watch run minimally worse than usual. You have to be analfor this to matter but lets not pretend thats not a lot of us.
You can see tho how it is inspired by the black forest. The Black Red and White (or silver) are typical colors for their traditional clothing. Also the fabric of the strap with this button is very typical. Idk the black forest ist not really a region that is appealing for young buyers who I think Junghans markets their watches to. It's just not an appealing watch.
I bought a bunch of Grand Seiko watches years ago. I sold them, and man do I regret it. They were mostly quartz, but they looked amazing. Furthermore, with all the noise regarding the 44G case, the 62GS is just plain superior. Although my biggest regret was an almost perfect Tudor sub. I thought I was robbing the guy I sold it to, then I saw the same watch on Hodinkee years later for eight grand.
About Max Bill_ From what I've researched, Max Bill studied at the Bauhaus in the late twenties and not the 50s-60s. It´s just a small correction. Congratulations for your channel. Good mood is always a good business card :-)
I seldom comment on videos but had to thank you guys for doing what you do! It's so nice and relaxing listening to you guys banter about watches and stuff after a long and stressful day of work. Highlight of my day today.
With the Rolex bubble going on right now I don’t blame anyone for wearing a fake one. At least you can get one. Or you have gray market oysters that normally go for six grand asking 13
The whole thing around buying a product (any product, not just watches) and people looking down on you when you choose to sell it, is an absolutely rediculous concept to me. You buy it, you can do whatever the hell you like with it, it's yours to wear, return, sell, give away, set fire to...whatever. I think people are more put out by the insane mark-up and profit this guy made.
My opinion on fakes is clear: if you can get 99% of the real thing for 10% of it then the original isn't worth its asking price. I don't see functional Sky-Dwellers anywhere on the fake market, nor any of my beloved Zenith 1/100 chronos. You don't see fake Ferraris that are a 99% rendering of its original counterparts and people worried about them being passed on as originals.
If you're looking for someone to take that fake rolex off your hands I'd like to have it. It would be something I could practice servicing so I can learn how to service my own watches. I got a seiko presage "Mojito" and a Tissot V8 automatic chronograph. Willing to learn and if I mess up on the fake, at least it'll be a fake and won't be of any loss🤷♂️ I'll pay for shipping 👌

Try the vintage watches for men section. Should find it there, but a waiting list piece. Cheers.
