I think my favorite psychopath in this game is Cliff. He’s not just a guy who broke when the zombies came about, he was a veteran granddad who lost his family and grandchild. He only snapped out of his PTSD just as he bleeds out, and even Frank actually seems sorry for him.
Also worth noting, Cliff is also the only one that snapped out of his insanity. The others are either too far gone like Adam or just borderline don't care like the butcher guy
I love it but sometimes I just wish it doesn't have that timer countdown. Because even though some might say you have plenty of time to do whatever before it runs out, seeing that clock constantly ticking down mentally hasten you to finish whatever you wanna do. It turns "I can take my time and enjoy this" to "I need to finish this quickly and efficiently".
@theotv5522 true but a player could do one genuine story run with a small mix of survivors and psychos and then focus the next playthrough with leveling up Frank and only doing survivors and psychos. I've only beaten Dead Rising 1 and that was like 2 days ago recent but I dont think the game restarts if you miss a case like Dead Rising 2. If you miss a case I think you can just continue the game without the main story.

YES! New Joshi video! Glad to see you cover Dead Rising. The editing was on point with some fun visual gags. Great work man, your editing has only gotten better with each video. Though it is quite interesting that this game unlike the sequels is the only one where you can freely choose to either: engage with the campaign or play freely in a sandbox. They never figured out why it worked and have continued to hire people who didn't understand why it did and won't understand how they pulled it off.
Dead Rising 1 is the best game I would never recommend someone play. It's amazing soundtrack, crazy-insaneo characters, nuanced story and Japanese arcade beat-em-up charm are couple with sadistic difficulty and obtuse AI which bring down the whole experience. I was reminded of STALKER the whole time I played it; the bugs and the obtuse gameplay make the gameplay worse objectively but elevate it to masterpiece by virtue of it all being so memorable and off beat. 10/10: it made appreciate the timer mechanic in games.
i remember getting the true ending for this game and my parents telling me we had to go somewhere and to turn it off but the last boss on top of the tank was taking forever and i told them to wait. got my xbox taken away but i remember feeling so accomplished that i didnt care. xd
that was the first xbox 360 game I ever had, but my 360 didn't have a hard drive so I can practically recite the first 2 hours of the game from memory.
I have so much fun is doing a NG run going for Saint (Ending B) or Overtime/True Ending. From LVL1 to LVL49/50 in a single run; it's awesome and very doable.
Personally, I preferred Dead Rising 2 for the setting change and the QoL improvements (wasn't a fan of OTR), but Dead Rising 1 set the standards with that delightful mid-aughts console jank and unmatched cultural sensibility. It's the first game I can think of that felt like a God-to-honest zombie sandbox power fantasy that really lets you do whatever you want in a familiar setting. And Frank in DR1 comes off like an authentically dumb, boorish Ameriburger in a way that feels organic and charming, but every subsequent iteration turned him into Meme Man™. Just like the death of the American mall, DR1 can't be replicated or remade without it feeling contrived.
I've been wanting to replay this recently. I picked it up as a kid and loved it.. it just scared the heck out of me and was very hard with the escort missions. (I was like 11 cut me some slack lol) I've only beaten it once and I never got the true ending. Looks like this is my next game to play
If I can dominate this game and get a minus-1 Saint run as a freaking kid, on my mate's 360 that I didn't have full access to.. YOU DEFINITELY CAN AND SHOULD PLAY THIS.
Dead Rising 1, No More Heroes 1, Metal Gear Solid 1, Kirby Epic Yarn, Max Payne 1, Heroes of Might and Magic 3, JAGGED ALLIANCE 2, Signalis, Ace Combat 2, Silent Hill 1. these 10 games has that special charm and unique spark that i just can't let their flaws affect me in any way, they are just too fun as video games that can't be described by words.
I think the reason what happened to this franchise was a result of Capcom not letting blue castle do anything else, after DR3 they stated they didn't have anything else for the franchise so DR4 was just a 1-year rushjob of ideas that dont mesh together. Sad fate really.
I love Dead Rising 2 and Off The Record. Dead Rising 3 I never finished but it was a lot of fun too! The first just feels differemt though it is quite indescribeable. It also feels more like a horror game compared to the others.
Such a good game and a great soundtrack. Along side gone guru and Adams song everything is fantastic. Plus joshi your live steam on it was a great watch and was hilarious. Love your work you definitely deserve to be bigger in popularity
Despite Dead Rising being one of my favorite games of all time (I was introduced to it like a couple years ago and hold it dearly) the only thing I'd change or add is just give the survivors DR2 AI. That's the only change I'd make. Absolute banger of a game otherwise.

The game is basically telling how Amerikan military and financial intervention against Third World Countries creates terrorist threats for that nation. The whole game is imbued with 9/11 angst and the role the US had in creating it's own catastrophe. What I love the most about Dead Rising is how it captured that mid-2000s mall vibe ever so perfectly.

Mall music preserved my sanity.
