Now I know the reason why like your personality so so much - even we are from total different countries and cultures. I grew up in China in the 80th. My parents were extremely not happy in their marriage. I was terrified to stay home because I could not handle the intensity in the house between them. My mum always said if it is not because of you, I would have divorced your dad long time ago. She said this when I was in primary school…and sadly I blamed myself of being in the world. One day When I just started university, I begged my parents to divorce and they said no. Because both of them work in a university they need reputation…. Anyway, long story short, I left there 10 years ago and came to Canada starting my new life all by myself and I’m so so happy! Mary, you are awesome! Keep doing what you are doing now!

When you said I’d rather be divorced and happy. Yes ma’am. My parents had a terrible marriage. My brother and I have so a lot of issues from it and PTSD. I ended the relationship a year after my daughter’s birth with her father because I felt she would be benefit more from separated parents then that clusterfuck relationship. 11 years later. The greatest choice I made. She’s a great girl and is turning 12 in two weeks.

It's so refreshing and quite comforting that there are other people who've gone through similar things as I have, and have been able to become stronger and move onto a much better life. My life is by no means perfect and I have daily struggles. But I am happier now than I think I've ever been after leaving a 14 year nightmare of a marriage. I love being alone and having the freedom to be me and not having to support the leach I was married to. Thank you for being open about your experiences. It helps me to feel better, and I think it probably helps others as well. 🥰

I know I've said this before but I swear we're sisters! I grew up in a highly dysfunctional family as well and went on to have severely dysfunctional relationships too. Thankfully I am now happily married to my complete perfect match... he's wonderful. I learned alot from the environment I grew up in though, and as much as i love my parents - i learned how NOT to parent from them. Even if I walked through bad situations the lessons I learned made me who I am today and I think I'm a pretty decent person and an okish Mom. We all have skeletons and that's ok. The older I get the more I no longer care who judges my skeletons because I bet theirs are still hiding in that closet.... mine tap dance for all to see! 🤣 Love you Mary - you're the best!

My dad loved my mom in a way, but she hated him. He was an abusive narcissist who couldnt pick up after himself. My mom's brother was in a very happy, very affectionate marriage, and my mom would always say something like, "see, this is what its like when people like each other." I would laugh, but I didn't understand the depth of what she was saying. He cheated on her and left, and she actually tried to get him to stay. They fought so much, too, so there's a huge depth to her own trauma around her self worth and relationships. I understood a lot of what you spoke on here.

I see another side of your personality on this channel and I'm glad you have worked out some issues and still trying to. And having 3 divorces means nothing. I think we all in our lifetime have met people that we shouldn't have attached ourselves to. We just have to move on. I wish you happiness and success in life.

I've never been married. But I do have five kids with three guys. The last guy is actually my best friend; we just didn't work out as a couple despite trying for a decade... I do wonder if one of the many, MANY reasons why I never got married is because my parent's relationship is absolutely awful, despite their denial of this.
And I feel you on the part where you said that so many people think that THEY left YOU. A lot of people assume that my baby daddies left me. I left each one 😂

There’s nothing shameful about leaving 2 abusive relationships and having a happy one with someone you happen to be divorced from. It sounds like you and Glenda the good witch have a lot of love for each other, who cares if it’s an unconventional relationship? It sucks that people judge that kind of thing, but as long as you’re happy, that’s all that matters! 😊

I started watching this while struggling to stay awake and do my nighttime skin routine.
I wasn’t prepared for how deep this was going to get. I’ve been a viewer for many years on my regular channel (I’m sorry I’m logged in over here, I’m super against people leaving comments while using their asmr channel, as so many people do it to be fake and get clicks).
But so much of this resonated with me. My parents divorced when I was 17 and they were miserable for years before. My dad told me was I was 13 that if my mom survived cancer he was going to leave her, and then when I was 16 he told me they were going to divorce when I turned 18. I made a comment about it once to my mom, and she was horrified because she didn’t know he was planning.
Marriage and relationships are hard and I think things are really changing. Like your friend who lives separately from her SO. Sometimes that works best.
Love the quote about leeches too, I have never thought about it like that. I won’t host leeches, cut em off.
You are a really special lady Mary, and I feel lucky to be here learning from your life experiences and having a few laughs along the way.
I’m glad you have Glenda the good witch. ❤️
Ps: I was so sure you were in the tub until halfway through the video 😂

My dad and stepmom have had separate bedrooms for ages. They say it’s one of the best things for marriage. They have their own spaces where things can be exactly how they like them. When they want to be together they can visit each other, but otherwise they have room to spread out, no one controlling their space, they have privacy as a default. I think separate bedrooms and bathrooms can be great for a marriage.

"What other people think of you is none of your business" - are words to live by. Also, I think people are awfully small minded and would probably always assume the man was the one who left in all marriages. That's how they are. Apparently even in today's world people think women need a man, but the men don't need a woman 🙄.

I just turned 40 and maybe a year or two ago I went out with this guy who said he was 46. That was actually stretching it for me already, but then I ran a background check and it turns out he was 54! I gave him a couple of chances to be honest and eventually told him I knew. He was like, "well, I was going to tell you on our 3rd date" - WTF? I later asked him why he lies and he said, "I don't have anything in common with women my age." We ended up dating for awhile but I never actually trusted him. I just texted him a few weeks ago and he said he's dating someone else. She's probably 30 or something and thinks she's dating a 40 year old. There's a reason all his pics are filtered haha.
Also, as a therapist, thank you for advocating for mental health ❤️

Love your openness and honesty Mary, it's definitely the way to be.
Just one question, did you make this video sitting in the bath? It's not an issue, I'm just interested 😂

Mary, goddamn I love you. You are a rockstar. Not sure if you've done a video on your cult experience, but I would really love to watch it if you have one. Otherwise, request please?

Your childhood sounds very similar too mine… my parents were for the most part very unhappy with their marriage and it occasionally got very abusive which I had to witness as a child… I also happen to be queer so trust me life isn’t easy for me. But now I look at it as an important life lesson learnt, which is that true happiness doesn’t have to do with you circumstances and societal expectation don’t matter

I wonder if it was a glass eye. I have 2 friends with glass eyes and I can never tell where they are looking for which one is the fake.

Mary, I am less interested in judging you than I am interested in learning from your's, mine, ANYone's experiences. Even for married persons, we can learn from this. It's a people thing.

I wrote a book that you can listen to me read in a 17-part video series on my other channel, in the "River Road" playlist. It's a fiction novel loosely based on my experiences in the group, and other people's experiences.
I don't plan to do a whole "storytime" type video on my experience because it's not exactly fun to sit and reminisce about. I did talk about it here last November, though: ruclips.net/video/yLMuTieUDyU/видео.html
