Today we are checking out the backbone of the Romaninan Railways CFR Class 41 trains operarting a service from Brasov to Bucharest. Despite being classified as R the train is among the faster trains on the route, come along for a classic romanian railway experience.
Train type: CFR Călători, 41 (LE5100)
Route: Brasov to Bucharest
Train: R 3004
Distance: 166km
Journey time: 2h42m
Average speed: 61 km/h
Price: 47.75 RON / 9.67 EUR
Music:
Alexi Action - Synthwave 80's
It's a desighn feature. The doors are designed to automaticaly close when the wagon reaches 5km/h. There is no centralised system. I think it's to keep electronics to a minimum and modular interchangeability with older models(this was back in the 90s).
The toilets do not dispense on the track. Those models were made illegal an a condition to enter the EU.
Excellent video! Great train ride in Carpathian mountains! Big LIKE
All the best from Dublin
Andrew
Yep my friend. All locomotives in East Europe are made under Swedish patent...Zagreb (Kroatia)- Electroputere Craiova (Romania). Due to massive effort to escape Ottoman...
Not all. Poland bought British locos. Czechs probably bought nothing sms made their own.
@@LMB222Yeah, Warsaw Pact countries had their own, Yugoslavia and Romania built locos under ASEA licence.
Nice clip 😊 Keep up the good work 👍 Yes, CFR generally will offer good value for money, sometimes (a lot of times) will have delays, it has some issues in the cleaning department (CFR wash the trains! - CFR, spala trenurile!), but it will take you where you need to go on the cheap. Restaurants will be open on longer routes, such as Bucharest-Sibiu (6 hours journey).
An exceptional video!
I greet you from Timișoara(Romania) and I give you a big like😉
Good luck in the future
Thank you very much! Timisoara was one of the first romanian cities i visited!
Fantastic scenery!
But a very corrupt and full of criminals country. So go away!
Nice review! Indeed this locos are iconic for CFR! 🫡
But unfortunately a big problem is with the delays & inside cleaning.
By the way... no Alps in Romania, Simon my friend... Those mountains are called Carpathian.
I've heard them being called both thats why i used both in the video :D
@@Simon-Andersen I'm Romanian, never heard of Apls in my country 😂
@@Simon-Andersen Haha, the alps extend from franco to austria, the mountain chain in romania are indeed called carpathian
Nice review of the series 10-91 AVA saloon coach. The best 1st class coach equiped for long distance / premium trains with its TGV style armchairs. Not the same I would say about the low-cost 19-76 Ameet DWA basis of the 1992 - 1994 which were furnished with cheap looking Trenitalia regional seats that are being sold as IC places !!!
I specifically picked this train to avoid those horrendus coaches, lets hope they survive longer!
Awesome video! Pls continue the good work!
I travelled from Bucharest to Brasov in July 2021. Basov/Brasso/Kronstadt is fantastic place - the inner city - and the prices are - for a swede with "Swedish Pesetas" and not DKK - very acceptable..
Its such a lovely place! I think you will like the prices there if you come from any place that use one of the nordic "kroner" :P
great video. greetings from romania
Thanks! Greeting from Denmark
Très bonne vidéo les sigrs de 1er classe ressemble au siges ex Thalys
Nice video, man. Youre welcome any time in Romania. Whats your favourite place so far?
I loved my visits to Timisoara and Brasov, id also like to go to Cluj some time
@@Simon-Andersen but they're very corrupt places!

All the tests were done on this relation. After the decision to buy the Swedish ASEA loco falls. But who knows, insider are sure that additional factors were leading to the final decision.😅
Thank you for testing the toilets.
This loco is a distant cousin of what BBC/ABB sold to Amtrak in late 1970's.
Sort of. The Swedish original series was named RA, RB1-RB3, RC1-RC6(7).
The AEM7 is basically a RC3 with a tuned motor. The ALP-44 is basically the same but based on the RC6 series.
The Romanian trains was based on the RB series. Sort of. here is where it get a bit complicated.
The RB series was never designed to be in full service, it was made only as a test bench series. There was 6 locos made, 2 of each type. The 3 different series was made with as diverse concept as possible to see what worked best.
The main diffrance was that RB1 used thyryster and diods to power a DC motor. While RB2 and RB3 used multi current motor (that was most common at the time). This was 1962, so pretty early on in high power electronics.
The design of the RB trains got some criticism and was updated to the RC series. Romanians didn´t care so they ordered it with the RB design for faster production, but added two axles for added power. While the exterior look like the RB loco, the components are pretty much all fo the RC1 family. The only significant diffrance is the addition of two axels.
ASEA set up a full production line in Romania and they cracked out those locos all the way to the very last day of the cold war.
The Norwegian and US locos are basically identical to the Swedish RC series. The Romanian on the other hand have detuned motors. On the flip side the transformer need to handle 5MW in steed of just 3.6MW
Excellent video and I wonder if DSB Danish Railways will want a Romanian locomotive that is licensed produced Swedish AESA RC locomotive which is known in the United States as AEM-7? If yes then they can work alongside German Siemens Vectron EA locomotives Eurosprinter EG locomotive. I can see a Romanian diesel locomotive for DSB resembling the former German Democratic Republic Deutsche Reichsbahn Baureihe 119 U-Boot
I think DSB will only want Vectron for the forseable future
Swedish design and swiss Enigme
;You can do better CFR; is the understatement of the century 😂
Transylvania mountains is Carpathian not Alps .
In Romania most CFR trains has 500 minutes delay , so you're lucky ! 😅
CFR is commonly pronounced "chefere" 😉
Why would you want airline style seats? Then many seats don't have a good view and on busy trains can be very claustrophobic, airline style seats are just a bad joke to get the carriage capacity up by a few seats.
That really depends on how you chose to design the carriage. Bays don't guantee a better layout. And I much prefer being in an airline seat than share a bay of 4 when traveling alone
Uf... I hope I booked a different train😅
Anything can happen on Romanian rails
Would you know whether there is a direct train from Bucharest to Ramnicu Valcea? I can't seem to find one. Thank you
I dont think there is, you will have to change somewhere :-) Or get a direct train to Pitesti and then a short bus ride to Ramnicu Valcea
The locomotive not al bat vill run whit max 205 km
Transilvanian Alps? Man at least get the Carpathian mountains a bit of respect
I hate dirty windows.
Stop talking rubbish, these trains ware designed in Romania a long time ago
No they were BUILT in Romania not DESIGNED, they are based on the Sj Rb (Swedish) design under license from ASEA (Swedish) as explained in the video.
Horribile dictu. Brrrashhhowww. Konstantzaaa. Sssinaïaaa. Boukureshhtj. Romania - Svenska inte.
I do not claim to be an expert in Romanian :P
