The speaker might think she is holding the listener back but doesn't know that they are just as inspired by her as she is by them. She can't be weak without the listener's "protection", while they can only be strong with her by their side, it's kind of poetic... I think there was a relationship like that in "Horimiya". The student president had a girlfriend he always had to look out for, but in one episode she admits (to the audience) that she is perfectly capable of taking care of herself, but does not do it because she realizes that he is "weak" and having to protect her inspires him to be better than he would be alone.
