Just a heads up if anyone hasnt found this themselves. Someone converted the dirt rally pikes peak course into assetto corsa, its freaking amazing. They have all the different surface types, and whats cool is if you turn on the 3d volumetric clouds in the sol config you will actually wind up going so high that at the end of the run you're driving through and above some clouds. I've never experienced anything quite like it in a racing game before. It's easily the best hillclimb track available right now in AC. It definitely takes some of the sting away from us missing out on having this track in dirt rally 2.0
@@Nick1one_ Gabenhood (search on YT) is the dude who has converted (and still working to improve) all 3 pikes peak layouts in Assetto Corsa (they've also converted a lot of DR1 rally stages on top of that)
I really wish they'd bring back all the wacky models too, even some historical ones, like sure the Escudo and maybe even Tajima's electric special from a while ago would be a given, but it'd be fun to have a mode where you go throughout the years and try and beat the record with each subsequent car, like you do it in an Indy Roadster, then do it in a quattro, then the 405 then Millen's celica, and tacoma, and suzuki escudo(include the twin engine one aswell cowards), the 208, and the ID R.
pikes peak is 95% of my play time in that game, it was such a good challenge to not only learn the course but to try and piece together that perfect run

Holy shit, DiRT Rally 1 blew me away when it first came out, it instantly became one of my favourite games of all time, and even now it still looks incredible and plays so well. I even prefer it over DR2.0, tbh? Just...something about it 💖 great job GPLaps, you did a damn sight better than me up the mountain 😅
Ive always feel that DR1 have more hardcore realistic habdling driving model than DR2... *Slightly toned down* Probably toned down even futher in eaWRC (while boosting up overall tyre grip)
DR 1.0 is the best rally game STILL (even with eaWRC out). I bought DR 2, and loved the graphics upgrade but quickly realized (espeically with higher power cars), that it is not as realistic, especially the grip and weight transfer mechanics. Plus when your going fast, on most tracks the graphics difference is minimal. Only noticeable with very dusty/rough tracks like Greece, and Italy.
This takes me back to 2016. I got Dirt Rally for free when I bought an AMD graphics card and I didn't have any real interest in the game, it was just a bonus that happened to come with the GPU purchase. I hadn't even played a racing game in years. On some boring evening I actually installed it, just to give it a try. And then it absolutely captivated me. 200+ hours of gameplay later I had finished all the rallies on master difficulty and put hours into countless Pikes Peak runs with all the available vehicles. And it kickstarted my whole love for simracing, leading to thousands of hours in all of the current racing sims. Not sure why I'm writing this, but seeing your Pikes Peak run made me very nostalgic. Dirt Rally will always have a special place in my heart.
I find myself going back to this run more regularly than most other things... and to think you can find the full game of DiRT Rally for literally just a few bucks these days
Perhaps one of the reasons for the big difference in your and real time is that Dirt Rally does not realize a lack of oxygen in the mountains and, accordingly, a decrease in engine power
I remembered when I played Dirt Rally spending all my time up this mountain - never got too good at the proper rallies but my goodness was this a blast. Thanks for taking me back!

I have kept a PS3 and copy of the disk just for Pikes Peak full dirt run, a piece of history now but what a piece of history. Apparently the tarmac is helping to prevent erosion.
DR had it's faults when it came to realism. For instance it was easy to destroy PP course records by over a minute as the power didn't dip as you got up higher and the cars probably had a little too much grip. Regardless of its faults in the physics, DR is one of the best racing games I've ever played and I'd argue it's still one of the best now.

Ego engine came down from D4 way too down and simplifies, both from optimization on pc to feeling of the game. I may be wrong, but that's how I feel. To learn to drive in DR1, it took years of experience to get into top 50/100 players on daily/weekly/monthly events online, pure rally. In D4/DR2.0, reviewers could already "master" it in few weeks of reviewing the game. Hi Jake. After watching this I had to fire up Dirt Rally and have a run at Pike's Peak. I had a lot of trouble with the FFB, it being an older game. I'm running a DD wheel. Did you alter the in-game FFB settings? I made a lot of adjustments but just couldn't get it right.
Loved Pikes Peak at in DR 1.0. I just wish they hadn't limited it to only 3 cars. I'd have liked to take any of the games cars up. Not sure that you experience any power drop in the game as you get higher up.
The lack of oxygen at the higher altitudes of pikes peak not only can affect the car response and power, but drivers physical, I assume this, so with an oxygen suply for drivers, maybe they can go even faster...

Still installed on my PC, strictly for Pikes Peak!
Why does this look better than wrc23?...lol
Hi Jake. After watching this I had to fire up Dirt Rally and have a run at Pike's Peak. I had a lot of trouble with the FFB, it being an older game. I'm running a DD wheel. Did you alter the in-game FFB settings? I made a lot of adjustments but just couldn't get it right.
I set it up using the advised settings for dirt rally 2!
what a ride!!
THE SOUNDS!!!
Brooo i totally forgot i was watching a game :O
I would fly off the edge near the finis probably
Loved Pikes Peak at in DR 1.0. I just wish they hadn't limited it to only 3 cars. I'd have liked to take any of the games cars up. Not sure that you experience any power drop in the game as you get higher up.
I wish they had added this to dirt rally 3
Awesome 👏👏👏 Bravo 👌🍾
It's something that felt really weird to me in DR2.0.
Ahh yes. Pikes Peak when it was still dirt :(
The lack of oxygen at the higher altitudes of pikes peak not only can affect the car response and power, but drivers physical, I assume this, so with an oxygen suply for drivers, maybe they can go even faster...
Drivers have been using supplemental oxygen for quite some time now for this event
GOAT DAMN SICK
i had to reinstall dirt rally 1 after coming back to rally games and buying ea wrc just to play pikes peak
