I would like to challenge the statement that an 'impartial ex ceo of news Corp' would fairly rebut Kevin and Malcolm. Even as a former employee of the media machine, they are still subject to public scrutiny from bodies such as the Murdoch press.
Look no further than the case of Yassmin Abdel-Magied and how Newscorp had the power to smear someone for minor criticisms.

I don't know if they were saying he was impartial. After all, they did mention his affiliation. I think he was more just to present a voice from the Murdock side of the fence. For a media organization to be claiming that they are doing representative journalism, they do need to present both sides of any argument. I mean pretty much everything the guy said I found insulting to our intelligence or at best ridiculously naive but if your reporting on something and not taking sides you have to give everyone a voice. That is how democracy works too. Hell, the whole problem with Murdock is that the amount of ownership of the media he has drowns out most other voices.

The federal government should create multiple new government-owned media corporations, and after they become profitable sell them off to their employees and require by law they remain employee-owned corporations and be politically independent. Hopefully with many of them, there'll be more competition in the media and it'll break Murdoch's almost monopoly on media in Australia.

Prescribe social media platforms as publishers and hold them liable for content. All would certainly help diversify the media.

I always thought Italy's Berlusconi was Bad, be compare to Murdoch, Berlusconi was just a Coire boy!
I remember vividly that Tony Blair before his election going to Australia. Murdoch is THE Kingmaker. His first stop was News Corp's HQ and not the capital Adelaide.
As a thank you, Murdoch was able to snap up On Digital's license, after some schenannegans around broadcast monopoly issues, that resulted in making Sky the cable/Satellite TV monopolist.
Then, look at Fox News, at Sky TV. Can any media outlet be any more partisan? I think not.

They need to be held accountable for what they report regardless of the platform. If they are found to be spreading lies then they must be forced to spend the same amount of time during the same hours to undo the damage. Their "opinion" propagators need to be held accountable when they spread un founded lies and need to be forced to correct their information in the same way. What rubbish sign off that we could just stop buying the news from them its the people that are buying it that are miss informed and feeling vindicated on their actions which are the ones that need help.

Definitely a discussion worth having. It's obvious that it's not in the best interests of the general public to have one operator dictating the perceptions of the masses. Its my "opinion" that within the coming decade, most people will be receiving the majority of their content online anyway. It feels redundant to be focusing on Murdoch when the true power of information sharing will be solely under the Big Tech umbrella. I'd love to see a Royal Commission into Google/Facebook etc regarding the everyday person's individual sovereignty and privacy rights.

This could be a *winning election strategy by Labor.*
All attacks by Newscorp are suddenly framed as _pure self interest_ by Murdoch in order to keep his Empire and his control of Australia's media landscape.
And the attacks will prove Labor's point that Murdoch has _to much power_ and personally interferes with and controls Australian Politics.
And there's no downside for Labor.
*"But Murdoch and Newscorp will be relentless in their partisan attacks on Labor during the election"* I hear you say through a rhetorical device.
    So?
They do that anyway, this will just lessen the pubic effectiveness of those attacks as it will be seen as Murdoch trying to save his own arse.
Unless Labor goes to the next election with a policy of giving the ABC and SBS to Newscorp, Murdoch will ruthlessly and relentlessly pillory them. There's no point in not trying to antagone someone who kicks you in the head, your only option is to fight back, instead of the ongoing Labor response of complaining about being unfairly kicked in the head while they are lying on the ground getting the boot put in.
Tactically Labor could get help from the moderate wing of the Liberal Party as well, after all it was Murdoch that got Turnbull knifed and replaced by a climate change denier. They would resent that Murdoch effectively calls the shots for the Liberal Party through Sky News and his papers.
Labor should also take a leaf out of Machiavelli and try to destroy Murdoch utterly. Don't try to limit him a little bit, break up Newscorps monopoly and powerbase in Australia, so that Ruperts opinions become irrelevant to Australian society.
Otherwise if he's just wounded, then he's still a problem.
Appeasing Rupert Murdoch has not been a successful strategy.

Fmr NewsCorp boss Kim Williams is way too cute with the truth. He states that people have the right to choice but fails to acknowledge that when 70% of the media is owned by one company that chooses to be heavily biased and protectionist to one strain of ideology within a political party it is an argument very thin on integrity & reality. To say that the media is not a critical component of our democracy is absurd. Kim also reckons that despite the publics undeniable preference for Climate action its just a few ill informed commentators that are in opposition. This is a flat out lie. We all know that these commentators sit in the prime times and have been over and over corrected and directed towards the truth but they keep lying. We know they are also part of a coordinated political campaign across the Murdoch mastheads & the LNP. For a start Murdoch must be made to reduce his influence by at least two thirds.
