My ride has been tore down for 2 years. Finally getting close to dropping the the rebuilt 396 in. With parts at the shop & in the garage, I've misplaced fasteners. Dude, I appreciate how you described each bolt, nut & washer. Exactly what I needed. Thank you.
The process for bleeding the system is jack up front wheels and turn steering wheel all the way to the right, then to the left. You continue this until there are no bubbles in the pump.
Thanks I'm currently in the process of doing this with a 69-70 454... was thinking of converting to the billet mount though... i need to get those correct pressure and return hoses...
BTW those brackets are 70-72, 69 had 1 year only brackets, was 3 of them. You showed the pump you used, one off a truck, the other one might have been off a 69.
I have a small block 350 in my 70 monte carlo. I running headers and need power steering brackets that don't bolt to the exhaust manifold. Do the big block power steering brackets interchange with the small block?
Hi, So liked this video. My engine is a 396. So brackets fit right where they are supposed to. I have a billit pully on the same Stearing pump you are using. Problem I have, is I cannot seem to find the correct belt, from O'Reillys, their either too long or two short. I'm at the point of putting PS fluid in. What belt are you using?
Hey man I really appreciate you taking the time to make your videos. I used your steering box rebuild vid as reference for doing mine on my 72 SB350. I got a new power steering pump with the keyway on the shaft which looked like the one that you had in this video but I didn't see you mess with it. Did you not show it or did you not use it?
thanks for another great video. you should be an instructor. lots of people learn from your videos. you keep it real...sometimes there's cussing, sometimes no funnels, sometimes loud music, but it's real life. Most of us dont have shiny floors and operating room lighting. we can relate to you so it makes learning easier.
Your videos are very detailed and informative. Thank you! Do you have any carb rebuild videos? I've got a Holly and an Edlebrock that both need rebuilt and I've been dragging my feet because it's a little intimidating.
Your videos are awesome. Your video on the steering column ignition lock cylinder and rack assy. saved my ass ! I have a question regarding the power steering pulley. MIne is on a 72 big block Camaro. Is the pulley a slide on ? My original pulley is loose. I also noticed my new pump shaft has a groove for what looks like a locator pin which did not come with it. Any info would be appreciated
Appreciate the video man, I'm sure ill be referencing it here again shortly! I have a question, do you have clearance issues between your headers and steering shaft? I put a 454 in my 1969 and with the Hooker headers I don't have enough room, any suggestions? Are you running an OEM steering shaft?
I had to take the steering shaft off to install them .. I have big hooker super competition 2” primary 3.5” collector headers and they clear everything 100% even with manual trans linkage .. your car is exactly the same.. if they don’t fit they are not for a Chevelle.. or possibly a cheap set.. I have had cheap headers I had to beat them in around the steering and it is stupid
Really appreciate your videos. The standard BBC PS bracket you are using does not align on my 454. I am almost certain it's from a 1970 Monte Carlo. Do you have any experience with different brackets on BBC blocks?
Awesome video!I have a 1962 Chevy impala with Chevy 350. Excuse my ignorance but when I go to Oreilly to buy power steering parts, do I just need to say Chevy 350? 62 impala did not come with a Chevy 350. Thanks!
+Blake Biltwell say 327 don't say 350.. if the engine you say does not show up they won't want to sell you the part.. ( because they think it's some rigged up POS) and you are just going to return the parts
I’m having so much trouble fitting my steering column to the steering box I have a 72 Chevelle w/ a sb350 and already tried to fit several times, am I doing something wrong? The column rubs badly on the header and already dinged them pls help 😅
I know about that.. it will eat the seals.. i use to run auto fluid in them for 10 years cause my dad worked at a gm dealership in the mid 60s.. don’t do that

Very helpful, last time I worked on a car like my 69 Chevelle SS was over 40 years ago, my memory aint that good ...

No idea what part # you used for the return line? Part store sold me 35287 return and 35525 for pressure...

I literally ordered the 3 belts for a 1970 454 Chevelle from oreilly they are all perfect

Thanks for a helpful video. Whats going wrong if i use transmission Oil in the steering pump? Peter from Denmark

Okay thank you👍
Great video buddy it will help a lot of guys out 👍🏻

Don’t forget to turn steering left to right, then back right to left (lock to lock). Several times to bleed air in the pump

I would check 100% that you have a 70 block.. they went on better than any power steering bracket ever in my life
can you tell me if the return line is still available, I am have a hard time finding anything like the one showed, Thanks Chris
that’s a universal 3/8” return line.. it was out in the aisles at oreilly
@@chriscraft77022 thanks for reply Chris, neither ORielys or auto zone had that line, but found it at INLINE Tube
If you can’t find a hose, go to your nearest hose house and see if they can custom make one. Usually it’s a few dollars more but it’s the same
@@Arizona_rider I got Chris, ended up being a 70 chevelle return worked mine is a 69 el camino thank you..
What was the size of the adjustment bolt for the power steering? I cant seem to find mine.
Awesome video!I have a 1962 Chevy impala with Chevy 350.

you usually have to knock the header in with a hammer....
Factory manual recommends auto transmission fluid on my 69 Cadillac lol
I know about that.. it will eat the seals.. i use to run auto fluid in them for 10 years cause my dad worked at a gm dealership in the mid 60s.. don’t do that
Use transmission fluid in emergency lmao
I used to run straight trans fluid
