Venomek1985 What you see in the video is from far away. In VR you'd have it very close. Example: If 2d sprites would be used in the effects, they'd be very noticable. But that's just one of many examples of things that wouldn't work.

Realise this is an old comment, but I recently started using these effects in a FPS unity project and they work very well. The only thing to be aware of is that the projectiles can collide off other projectiles. This happens frequently if you don't have a polling rate set for your mouse button down detection. @@BigDickEnergy777Built in engine. Decals are part of Unreal Engine natively. Decal is just a texture/material that you apply over another, like a floor that is wet, or a wood that is burned. Triplanar projection is a technique to avoid "textures stretching" when they are applied over complex surfaces, like when you apply a rock texture in a cliff, for example. The texture may look stretched because of the complexity of a cliff mesh, so triplanar projection helps.
How bad would these effect performance? I am making a small RPG and wanted to use some of these as the basis for some spells. How many different effects do you imagine could go one at once? The game is going to be fairly low poly and hopefully not too resource intensive to begin with. Maybe some dynamic lighting, volumetric fog here and there with some lit particles, Final IK running. Would I be able to have a few of these spells here and there without much worry?
What would be even better is if I could make these radius' bigger like you are charging the spells. Or like the shield barrier walls and bubbles, be nice to make those bigger. I would think you could, if you can let me know I'll buy them. But I want More effects too. lol.

Not really, Unity is fantastic. Way more community support, users, assets, etc. Things just as good if not better come out of Unity all the time. So I guess really, pity you don't use Unity. :(

The first projectile was the best rendition of magic I’ve seen so far, but adding more speed to the projectile would work wonders.

It's decal with projector and triplanar mapped shader.

Sadly the collision effects with the shields do not change even if the color of the shield changes.
It's demo bug.
Anyway, you can add "color script" on collision prefab and change color in one click.
