Hi Jess! I’m not yet at the level for making my own raw, but our kitty Gracie has now been fully transitioned to a few of the great raw brands you recommended. At the same time, she’s halfway through her FIP treatment, and she’s a NEW kitty. She has taken very well to the new food and the treatment. I found you at such the right time! God bless you and Merry Christmas 🎄
I'm so very glad I found your channel! I just recently started diving into learning about raw foods for my three cats. We started adding a little premade raw (I'm using Steve's Real Food) to their kibble and they're already more excited about meal time. I can't wait until I feel comfortable and knowledgeable enough to start mixing food myself, thank you so much for all the well researched info you share with us, I appreciate all the work you put in. 💖
With inflation the way it is, purchasing catfood (especially quality catfood) is expensive. This is such a helpful guide! Even just using these recipes alongside pre-made catfood can go a long way.
I really wish to maybe one day feed raw, however it keeps feeling very daunting :) One thing in my journey so far that was really striking is that actually my cat Sky hates kibble. She wanted to eat wet food all along, but couldn't tell me. She's never been this enthusiastic with food before! Both Rox and Sky's coats are so soft right now! The vet has been... less helpful... her first comment was that they needed kibble for their teeth. Her second comment was that I couldn't transition Rox and he had to stay on Urinary Care. When I noted that the packaging said he couldn't be on it long term her only reaction was "that's odd". Having read up on the subject and knowing my cat very well, my boyfriend and I decided to just transition him anyway, super slowly and keeping a close eye on him ourselves. After all we had detected his problems ourselves in the first place. Rox is now nearly completed his meal 2 transition to half kibble UC and half high quality wet food. So far he's doing really well. (For our sake and our wallets (we don't want to throw away all the kibble we have, we already donated 20kilo to the local shelter lol) he's now on 50% kibble and 50% wet and we go UC wet to HQ wet first. The UC kibble to HQ kibble. Finally to 1/3 kibble and 2/3 wet for now anyway) Sky is on 50/50 as well right now, but will move to 100% wet in the future. We did manage to find a way to weight her though! We got a baby scale and we placed that down near where she eats and slowly moved her food over to the scale, the just on the scale. Slowly and now it's basically in the center, and she doesn't have to be on it with more than her front paws to eat. However sometimes she approaches from the side and I put the bowl slightly further and one day she was actually sitting on the scale. So next time I turned it on as I place the food down and I managed to get her weight! This has been a really long comment, I'm sorry. I'm just really proud of how far I've come! These days boyfriend is sometimes helping with food prep. It's quite a heavy burden for me (I portion out 5 different foods and do dishes each day) as I have a burnout, I just find it really important for the cats!
I'm glad you're doing all this extra work for your babies!! The transition stage is the hardest work. Once you have everything streamlined it's easy! I spend around 15-20 mins every 18 days or so prepping Jericho's food (:
I like that you touched on nutritional deficiencies over time. Whenever I talk to someone about feeding dry over wet, it’s common for owners to say “my cat is fine eating x food”. Just like humans, takes months and years to see negative affects.
I've switched my cat to a scheduled wet food diet, specifically the freshpet chicken and beef recipe for cats last year around October. I'm really thankful for this video, because I was able to order the Darwin's complete and balanced raw food ahead of time and just know that I have it all ready in the freezer before I plan. Now I'm starting the plan and I just gave my cat her first 95 wet food/ 5 raw food meal and she ate it all!! Really excited to see all the positive changes that comes from feeding raw that everyone else sees, and thank you Jess for making these videos :D I also have a question, If I give my cat 4 meals a day, would it be okay if the transition take 4 months instead of 3?
Ohhhhh wowwwww. Thank you so much for this. So. Love your voice. So calming. I really need help with multiple cats. One older (14yo) male and two juvenile females. Im managing. But I think I need someone to tell me I’m ok. And not losing my ever lovin mind. 😂
I bought the feline minerals and essentials you linked to go along with Dr. Judy Morgan’s recipe, and I’m wondering how much of those minerals and essentials I need to put into the recipe. My cat’s are both in the 6-8 lbs range; for the Feline Minerals it says for 6-12 lbs to give one scoop daily and the Essentials say 1/2 teaspoon daily.
Is it possible to start homemade cat food to older cats? I have 3 triplets who are 9 years old? They only lick gravy wet food and hate pate. Any suggestions? Thank you 😻
Hi there, I am thinking about trying the raw diet for my cats. I just bought some vitamins but the fish oil I purchased was wild alaskan fish oil. I noticed that it smells like mint so my question is, will it still be safe to add to the raw cat food?
thank you so much for ur video! im pinning this for future use. i have a request 🥺 can u please lmk ur opinion on some good cat wet food brands in the UK ? im trying as much to find out good brands before i move there and then try to transition to premix foods I have heard about tiki cat, smalls, nulo but they're all in the usa and gets very expensive to get it to the uk
Thanks for the video!! I want to start to transition my 3 cats to raw from wet food, but there some things still not clear to me. Hare food arrives frozen and on their website they suggest to defrost the meat (the meat/organs/bones products), mix it with Alnutrin and oil, portion it and freeze it again. Shouldn’t defrost meat be frozen again?! I also contacted Raw Paws asking if I need to add any supplement to their products. They answer that the complete blends do not need Alnutrin and fish oil, should I trust it? Thanks so much!!
You're welcome! The USDA says we can refreeze thawed meat as long as the meat was thawed in the refrig and doesn't sit out longer than 2 hours (but I'd say 20 mins). I believe with raw paws you would have to use a variety of meats, including their chubs with veggies for proper balance over time. But they know their formulas so you'll have to discuss balancing with them (:
Ok so I'm back in the same situation I was a few months ago 🙃 only now alnutrin can only be bought with PayPal and the company I go through is out of all chicken with bone. Where do you get the nutrients in this situation? I googled it and have no clue how to get to the vitamins I need, all I'm getting is vitamin tablets and pre mixes. Why is it so difficult to simply just get what I need from more than just one supplier? Please help
I love your channel and the way you explain this information. Saying that, I wish I would have known how bad dry kibble is. Know better, do better. And I can pass on your channel to my neighbors and friends
Yes it may be easier to transition to wet before going to raw. The transition guide I mention in the video is here: ruclips.net/video/tTV0FSxDE-w/видео.html
Hi Jess, if you’re transitioning out of Alnutrin, what are you using now? I found a west coast source (wholefoods4pets) that I had forgotten about, they sell whole ground rabbit (almost all of it includes head) and am wondering if Alnutrin and fish oil would be balanced (no one really to consult specifically that I can afford) I used to feed raw for 17 years to my cat now gone and now have two 1.5 y/s and am completely out of the loop. They’re kibble heads but get one raw Darwin’s meal a day..they do really like raw so I want to include whole ground rabbit..just unsure of supplements for that recipe. Appreciate your videos
With ground food you have to keep in mind that taurine and b vitamins are water soluble. So there may be nutrient losses during grinding, freezing, storing, etc. Also, apparently cats eat 5-7 different proteins to complete their diet. So that's why supplements would be necessary - to fill in those gaps.
@@jesscaticles Yes for sure, that's what i did for my previous cat, added Taurine, B vits, minerals, i'm just so out of the loop, amazing how 2 years of no raw feeding and you forget a lot. I am going to do the recipe that Lisa Pierson suggests as she includes rabbit from wholefoodsforpets

You can look at the ingredients on their website. They do use synthetic supplements instead of fruits and veggies. So really just depends on which nutrients you prefer.
