Headless Cross is the most underrated classic metal album of all time. I have loved this album since its release and it is one of only a few albums that I enjoy listening to every track.

The Tony Martin era in my opinion is extremely underrated. I love albums like The Eternal Idol, Headless Cross and TYR big time. They are MASTERPIECES to me.

The IRS years have been a hidden secret in metal. Out of print for a decade, and during that time countless IRS sabbath albums were bootlegs were released. Its awesome that IRS is doing box set, i am saving my sheckless for it. Forbidden remaster will kick a$$. Headless Cross is criminally underrated, a friggin metal masterpiece. Cozys drums 🥁 destroy!!!

I bought both Headless Cross and Tyr on CD from a dude in Russia. It crossed my mind that they were bootleg, but they were the only ones I could find. Apparently the Russians remastered Headless Cross and added the bonus track Cloak and Dagger as the final track. I gotta say, they did a wonderful job! The printing was nice, everything about it.

Headless Cross is a superb album and went completely under the radar, I saw them on the headless cross tour at Sheffield City Hall and what a show, the musicianship, Tony Martin’s vocals were just about perfect, pounding bass lines and Cozy Powell’s drums were thunder bolts, a gig I have never forgotten. Overjoyed it’s now on iTunes.

I think the new remixed albums are so much better and as a long time Black Sabbath fan I think looking back over history it is clear to me that Tony Martin is the best singer the band ever had because of his voice and range he is the only one who could sing any song on all 19 albums.

The TYR lineup was the most underrated version of Sabbath, for sure. It's too bad that Iommi broke it up to reunite with Dio for an album which he described the making of as "like pulling teeth." Had that lineup released one more strong album following TYR, it would've been hard to deny them and eventually more people would've caught on. In any case, I've always loved this music.

I was at the first Monsters Of Rock festival. I was lucky enough to have a backstage pass as my mate's sister worked for the promoters. A motorbike turned up and the rider took off his helmet. It was Cozy Powell. Just like the intro. Man..that was a loooong time ago.

I was 9 in 1989, and I have to say, I would have loved Headless Cross back then. It would've scared the shit out of me, but I would've loved it! I didn't own a copy until I was 36. But it took me right back to my childhood when I loved metal and spent my allowance on music magazines. So I kind of got to enjoy it as a kid anyway! The stigma about Sabbath being passe with an unknown singer, I would neither have known nor cared. I would've loved Tony Martin. I still do, very much. He belongs with Ozzy and Dio, IMO. So does Glenn Hughes. My battle jacket has a patch for Headless Cross and Seventh Star and I wear them proudly alongside images of other classic albums!

A few years back I asked Tony Martin about When Death Calls, and why it was so uber-Satanic. He said that the basis of the song was an out-of-body experience he had when he was asleep. He said that the Satan stuff in the song should not be taken seriously and that it was, quote, 'very tongue-in-cheek' and that he doesn't actually believe in Satan.

So...I coined this time period "The Bronze Era" of Black Sabbath with Headless Cross and Tyr. I feel more-so though that it was the addition of Cozy Powell that solidified the act. Before this, he had a mixture of producers and a borderline-wigged out Glenn Hughes during the "Wheels of Confusion Era Part 1". (Sidenote: There was Ian Gillan and Geezer for the Born Again confusion but I do believe all parties were not expecting to be Sabbath looking at the experience as a gas until the Arden dropped the hammer on them in which they all had a deep Oh Sh*t moment.)
It was too bad that Iommi broke this set up to reform with DIo. It was additionally sad that Cozy fell off his horse and couldn't be a part of that.
Even Iommi remarked later in his book that he wished he did not break up the Headless Cross/Tyr line-up because he had a good thing going.

Speaking on their bad tour promotion, I can attest to that. They came through Norfolk, Va. on that tour to a little place called "The Boathouse". There was ZERO promotion for it on local radio and I completely missed the show, only finding out 2 days later they had performed. Pretty much the last time they came through my area and my one and really only chance to have seen them. If Sharon had anything to do with it.....I wish her so "well".

I just couldn't get into this era of Sabbath. It to me was cookie cutter dull stuff that really had no real feel to it. I saw them on Cross Purposes tour with Motorhead and Morbid Angel opening. Geezer was with them so when they played the old tunes it was great. The newer stuff all sounded the same and to formulaic of that time. Since Dehumanizer Sabbath hasn't put out anything worth listening to. Now the Heaven and Hell album "The Devil You Know" is GREAT!!
