Very much so. Nick knew they had something good on their hands and it explains partially why they kept it around for nearly 25 years, almost to the day
It started in the Autumn of ‘84. By Spring 1985, The IP was branded MTV Networks,Inc an IPO which was a joint venture between Viacom Communications and MCA Television. It officially begin public trading on September 30,1985.
I bet this is the first surviving footage of the Nickelodeon continuity that has the now-known "Orange Splat" branding, i wonder if there's a first day continuity that features the "Orange Splat."
This also came around after Phil Collins released Hello! I Must Be Going and when he released Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now)after when him and Genesis released Self-Titled 1983 as well
This was also after ZZ Top released Eliminator and after R.E.M. released Murmur and when they released Reckoning as well it’s sick dude this made my night
It blows my mind that this was from 1984!! It's not impressive by today's standards but it must have been back then. Also I always thought this bumper was from the 90s. In fact alot of these bumpers I can't believe we're around from day 1 of Nick rebranding.
When that Doctor Snuggles promo showed up I almost had a fight-or-flight reaction because that show premiered in 1988...but then it turned out to be a Special Delivery promo
0:58 "Little Sprout Baby"... Yeah... Um... I have to assume that thing lasted a very short time on the market... Ugh. (ignoring that, good to see the splat nick bumpers in their -first- second day!)

Despite the rebrand it took a little while for the silver ball bumpers to completely disappear. I know that You Can't Do That On Television still used it's silver ball era commercial bumpers for a while after, and the old sign off remained for a while too. If I'm not mistaken I think they used it all the way up until they launched Nick at Nite in 87.
I kinda doubt there was a transition since Nick signed off at night. They probably signed off like normal, then signed on the next day with splat branding like they probably normally did after.
Wooowwwww...I wonder if Viacom has the transition from the Silver Ball to the Splat..could be a great 40th anniversary thing....whoaaaaaaa almost 40 years ago the world is so old
Wow, I didn't know Nickelodeon was around that long... I'm glad I'm a Millennial, we had better cartoons and advertisements than this. This is like a combination of a Baby Boomer TV network and cheesy educational cartoons.
Nickelodeon was just beginning to transition to its golden era when this was recorded. The company realized early on that the edutainment angle wasn’t working for them and quickly moved towards a “kids first” philosophy that kickstarted their rise to the top.

Yeah, Fred/Alan had a good thing on their hands
I have no words for how amazing this find is

Yeah, I thought the cgi bumper came out in 1995.
5:35
Wait...this bumper is FROM 1984?!?!?!? I thought it was from 1989!
That animation was WAAAAY ahead of it's time then!
It even predates Dire Straits’ “Money for Nothing” music video by a year!
Not to mention it came out the same year as Andre & Wally B.!
I thought it was from 1986.
@@elkinsinboxinc I would've guessed it was from the late 80s. Looks like we are all proven wrong.

4:35 We were definitively in the Video Game Crash at this point. They were practically trying to give away all of these games in 1984.
Didn't know that beginning bumper was as old as 1984, neat
I had no idea the "Nick Brew" ident was that old. CGI has come a long way.
Happy 40th anniversary to this recording!

I keep forgetting the splat logo started way back in ‘84. It’s literally one of the first things that comes to mind when thinking about the 90s

Nickelodeon was saved back in 1984 with the star power of Danger Mouse and Lassie, but some folks may consider Lassie the one that saved Nickelodeon.

@Patrick Star I don't think he's doing trades right now.
You should try getting a TBC device and recapture this tape. You’ll probably get better audio and video quality.
On my to do list! I think the VCR I digitized this on was about to give way too-just didn’t realize it at the time.
Yeah, I have some. Mostly classic theatrical cartoons though.
No. I don't have that many Cartoon Cartoons.
