Marine's reaction to her "death" and getting slapped reminds me a lot about how creators' tend to put their favorite characters in some traumatizing shit so casually lmao (like Nanami in JJK and Hina in Domekano)
It's because suffering is an easy type of conflict that garners sympathy and, ideally, forces the character to overcome hardship and thereby grow. Some authors take it a bit too far and occasionally forget about that last part. Particularly if they're using it as a way to process their own IRL problems. (See: Hideaki Anno, Yoshiyuki Tomino, allegedly.) On a somewhat deeper level it can be used to explore more extreme aspects of the human condition, in the sense that suffering can be a transformative process that may reveal sides of the character one would otherwise not see, for better or for worse. Then again, some less experienced (mainly younger) writers can simply mistake torturing their character for genuine drama or tragedy while mostly failing to tell a decent story, though I like to think most grow out of that eventually. Provided they don't give up first, anyway.

@@TheJeSTeR7530 marine and her ichimi lived on a boat on the sea. Marine kept to herself, drawing echi and reading BL books, as her ichimi watched hololive broadcasts on the computer. Life was simple and they were both happy. That was until the day the ichimi heard a voice from the sea.
Its surprising to me that many JP ichimi still haven't fully grasp Marine's brand of humor. That short of her getting slapped was amazing and genius and almost made me fall off the chair laughing. The thought of it being pitiful did not cross my mind at all since she produced it herself in the first place.
It's one of those "sounds funny in your head but it's not". Most people wouldn't find that clip funny even if they don't know who Marine is. Second clip adds a bit of character so it's more likely to come across as funny even though the number might still be small
