- The voice is out of sinc on this vlog. I deleted it and re-uploaded it but it didn't make any difference. So frustrating. My apologies. .
Taking my narrowboat Willsway from Retford to Worksop in the Chesterfield canal. The journey comes to an abrupt end.
Great vlog, Reversing out the lock and the turn to get back was 1st class well done Will.
I was so annoyed at not being able to finish the canal but at least I got out and I didn't have to go to far to turn. Thanks Tony.
Wow. What a trip you had. That has to be scary for anybody, especially with nobody around to help. The Bee Gee's were the greatest. Don't forget, that tune in case you need to revive someone with heart failure. You travel safe now.
Ha ha ha very good. I will sing it while blowing into their mouth. I was scared to be honest. I thought I'd be living in a lock from then on. I'm getting my center Anodes removed then I'm going back. Take care
Well that was an eventful journey, you'll be glad to get off this canal. Good bit of maneuvering in getting Wills way turned around. Hope the return journey goes well.
Ahhh thanks. I was so gutted to not finish this canal. I'm going back next year to try again. Thanks for supporting me.
Great vlog and well recovered from the lock Will!
I must admit I did panick a bit. Running around heart racing. Thank god I got out. Cheers Mr waterlily. Voice was out of sinc. I re uploaded twice. Must be signal strength.
That was a very scary time in that lock. And getting turned around....well it was a good thing you were not any longer r you would have to take a shovel to the ground to make it bigger. LOL. Great skills you have in maneuvering. Thanks for sharing. Have a Blessed day.
Thanks Margaret. I would of had to call CRT rescue which would cost a few hundred pounds. Also blocking the canal and I would have to live in the lock until rescue arrived. Could be weeks. Thank god I got out. Thanks for supporting me.
@@NarrowboatWill Oh my goodness. I never realized the fee would be that high.
Omg what a nightmare u had. Didn’t realise that locks were such a tight fit. Well done on persevering!
I've had problems with tightish locks in the past but this one beat me. I'm going back after some hull work. Thanks for your support. Take care
@@NarrowboatWill is it like u mentioned. The side anodes causing the squeeze ?
Good job gettin out of the locks! Shame the water was so shallow. Hang in there my friend.
Cheers Jim. Thanks for the support.
Hi Will no idea what camera you are using but if you get a polarising lens filter that screws in front of the camera lens, it will allow you to see the bed of the canal and everything in the canal so much clearer. The other it does is to remove the glare and reflected light from the surface of the water, they are not expensive. As for that lock that got more than just a bit too friendly with your boat, a 12 volt winch would have been a really useful item to have tucked away somewhere on your boat.
That's interesting. I'm using my phone for all my filming. I've heard of the glasses. The water was so clear. I wonder if a lense from those glasses would be a good idea? A winch would of pulled me in but not out but that's some great tips. Thanks for that. Take care.
@@NarrowboatWill hi, among others, ruclips.net/user/iphoneographers reviews attachment systems for attaching lenses and filters to smartphones. The polarizing filter has to be a 'circular' type designed for autofocus cameras, sunglasses will mess with the autofocus.
Sorry you had such a miserable experience at Worksop. There is mooring just before Deep Lock and we have moored there several times with no issues. Very handy for Sainsburys, Asda and fuel (in a can). The Chesterfield is a wonderful canal. Plans are well in hand to re-open the full length by 2027.
I didn't have any trouble from locals just the locks causing trouble. Ha. I'm going back. Thanks again.
Hi Will
You nearly got up to my mooring. I think Lala needs to loose some weight to get through 😲 .Nice
Don't worry mate i'm coming back for vengeance. Part Deux..I think that's 2.
Thankyou for the vlog ....
Thankyou for thanking me. It's my pleasure.
Part of the fun is being in all weather and able to decide to hide inside or just amble along
It's great when the fires on in a thunderstorm. Love it. Cheers
@@NarrowboatWill I can imagine, I was converted ages ago to that way of life. How much of the network is open? I know you the route from Bham to Worcester and London is open, but how far north can narrow boats go. ? 👍
I can go up the Lancashire canal past Blackpool and Preston. Hopefully coming in later vlogs. Cheers John
Nightmare mate, I have side anodes too and my biggest fear is getting stuck as well. Did well to get out and get turned around. Cheers.
They've been a pain in arse. Stratford locks I got stuck. I keep catching the gates with them. I'm taking them off. Thanks for the support buddy. Cheers
@@NarrowboatWill Same here Pal, Im on the Kennet and Avon and am about 100 locks in near Bath and seem to have hit nigh on every gate just under the water with the damn things. I now have to open both gates every time which takes an age!! Cheers
You was only a mile away from where I live at the beginning of this blog.....
I thought you were close.
Well that was lucky to have a winding hole so close!
I know it could of been a long reversing day. So annoyed I couldn't go further. I'm going back. Watch this space. Ha
Was there no warning from the CRT or other boaters that the locks are so narrow. Good to see you made it out and that was some fancy driving to turn around in the canal.
Thanks for the comment. Probably was warnings but i didn't see or hear any. I'm not a planner I just get on you know. Could of been worse I suppose. I'm going back after hull works done. Thankyou
It’s not so much that the locks are narrow, more the fact that, due to recent vandalism, water levels are so low at the moment. We came from West Stockwith to Shireoaks four weeks ago and had no problems with any of the locks.
Pity you didn't get further on as I think you have missed the best but of that canal. Worth checking if your side anodes are the correct type. They should be the slimline ones and positioned so they don't add anything to the beam dimensions.
Hopefully your next journey will be less eventful 👍
They are the slimline range but my hull is 86cm as opposed to 80cm of other narrowboat's. So annoyed. I heard it was beautiful. Ooh don't worry I'm back next season. Cheers
@@NarrowboatWill not sure what you mean by 80 and 86cm, beam is normally 6ft 10in or 2.1mtr. you've confused me
Mike Christian who built my boat built it slightly wider than the standard boats. This is what I've found out about my boat. Don't question me question Mike Christian. Lol
Were you using the windless to hook the pike..."
No the windless was in my belt loops at the back. I got on my hands and knees to grab it and it fell in. Arghh I had to buy another one. £10 out of pocket. I thought the pike might have something stuck in its throat but it was clear. Hope it was ok. Thanks
Nice water quality. Philip. 🇳🇿
It's very clear water. I could see all the fish. Thanks Philip.
Oh no Mr. Wizard, I just want to be a narrowboat style.
Fair play
I actually went to Retford this morning for the first time. Pretty little town that appears to be thriving. Must be worrying when you are on your own in situations like the lock. Have other people had problems there?
Retford was a nice little town. Boaters did say some of the locks are tight but I didn't think they would be that tight. I'm getting my boat out of the water and removing my center Anodes so I can try again next year. Thanks for your comment. Take care.
Wow that was Dramatic you got stuck twice , did you tell the CRT you got stuck??
No I didn't tell them I was to embarrassed. Lol. Turned tail and ran off or cruised off..ha
Chequers pub is a great place for a meal.....
I watched your vlog. Very good guitar playing buddy.
Oh man I’m gutted for you that you couldn’t do the full length 😔😔👍
So am I mate. I was only 4 miles from the end. Gutted. Cheers buddy.
Did you travel back to Retford or beyond and into the Trent at West Stockwith? Shame about Worksop being like it was.
Yeah I came off the Trent and I go back through Retford in my next vlog. Keep watching. Cheers
@@NarrowboatWill Pity you can't get right through to Chesterfield. Maybe in the next five years or so, the work to reconnect the canal will have been finished. By the way, my father's dad, who died before I was born, was struck by lightning and killed , whilst sheltering under a tree after fishing on the Chesterfield canal at Clayworth in August 1960 - five years before I was born.
Wow. What a shame but these things happen in storms. My sister's fella lives in Retford. I didn't know till I left. Thanks again.
Hi what length is your boat ?
Hello Chris. He's 57ft and some change. Cheers
@@NarrowboatWill I am looking for something in the region of 45ft like you to live on and cruise
Hi , just se your problems with stuck locks , why,? Have you ask CRT now,? Please till us why we want it. 🙂👍
It's my boat. It's just a few inches to wide. I'm going to work on the hull and go back next year. Watch this space.😁
time warping narrowboat medium.
👍👌🇨🇦❤️
Hello from the UK. Thanks
You forgot to breath in. 🤣
Ha ha nice..
Get those side anodes off, they are dangerous...but make for an exciting vlog..keep em coming.
Yeah they were recommended by the surveyor so I had all the work done. I will take them off but i'd be worried about rust issues. Let's see what happens. Thanks for watching.
Will ya had ya fenders up didnt you?
That's an oomedooddle bird, short legs and every time he lands he screams oomedoodle
Ha ha ha very good.
If I win the lottery, I would buy what ever available. My Auntie. I would invite. Xxoo..
Oh wow that would be fantastic. Thankyou.
Maybe your timing is wrong that's why you are overheating check it out
Will stop showing dead or dying animals or fish it aint nice. But i like your journeys
It's all part of life on the canals I'm afraid. Its what I see on my journeys. Take care.
We see the best of nature and the worse.... There's no point in doing a narrowboat life vlog and not showing both.... Keep em coming me duck👍
