Qualitative analysis is to tell Na, Ca etc. is present by looking at the meter reading at their characteristic wavelength. Quantitative is as we determined the concentration of Na using the calibration graph.
Blank solution is the solvent used to prepare the sample to be analysed. However, if any other reagents are added to the sample during the anslysis, those reagents should also be added to the blank. So the blank sample should contain all the reagents except the analyte (eg, if you are determining sodium then the solution of sodium salt should not be present). This is to ensure that any reagent that emits light at the wavelength under study is taken into consideration in the blank solution, as we are setting the meter reading to zero for the blank. A series of known concentration of the analyte is prepared for the analysis.
