Great songs! I was 12 in Dec of 1987 and just starting 7th grade when most of these videos came out. I'm now 49 and I just lost my mom at 74 about 2 weeks ago so these bring back a lot of memories and I wish I could go back 😪 Cherish the memories!! Thanks for posting! 👍😎
These are so fun to watch. I was five years old in 1987 and yet because I'm a youngest child I know many of these songs and it's actually more nostalgic for me than most other years!
Back in 1987 was a kid at a friend's house, late at night, and a serious otherworldly lightning storm was approaching. Went inside during the fury of the system, and ironically, saw INXS on MTV with "New Sensation" with the stroboscopic lightning effects going around. So surreal. They don't write or make music like this anymore. Long live the golden era of 80's music.
87 was one of my fave years. 87 flyers were incredible, I saw Scf games 3 & 6 at the phila spectrum. I started high school that fall and played football 80s youth/ becoming of age years were awesome
The song was on the soundtrack to the movie of the same title "light of day" in which Joan jett sang with Michael j fox in the movie with their fictional band the barbusters. He didn't sing in the actual released version of the song I don't think. He does sing though. He actually sang one song that was on that movie soundtrack. I was as surprised as you because I never saw that movie so I had to look all this up. Lol😅
@@brainsmatter7067 Yeah,it's Billboard which is the US charts. Aussie and New Zealand would be ahead of the curve with Don't Dream It's Over, which became a medium-sized breakthrough hit for Crowded House here in the UK in June/July 1987. I've Got You by Split Enz was a major hit here in September/October 1980 and one or two of their other tracks got on the airwaves here, including Six Months in a Leaky Boat which was one of many maritime-themed tracks (like Shipbuilding by Elvis Costello,Robert Wyatt) subjected to ridiculous bans during the Falklands War!
As a teenager in the 80s, I tried to figure out why I started to lose interest in most pop music. I thought it was because I was trying to focus on my college studies but seeing this video reminds me of how bad music was in the latter part of the 80s. There were still some very good songs but much of it wasn’t nearly as good as the first half of the 80s. It’s no surprise that this left the door open for grunge to take hold.
I really loved the second half of the 1980s (84-89) music. "Heaven is a Place on Earth" was the shining star of this year-this song is everywhere still. Belinda was there the entire decade. I thought the end of 87 into the whole year of 1988 was unbelievable- everyone was at their best, all ages, both sexes, all genres.

Ah, Belinda Carlisle!!!! God, I love her voice! ❤️

Cutting Crew sums up this era perfectly.
3 top 40 hits in 1987, yet they're always called a "one-hit wonder".
For me it was bon Jovi, Def leopard and whitesnake
I was a soph in college and joined the Army in 1987… lots of memories.

Jody Watley was on fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 I love this video. ❤💜
I was 16 in 87 and this was the best time
8:31 Hypnotize Me - Wang Chung peaked at #36 (good song, should've reached Top 20 though).
Jimmy Lee, the only song that can make me happy and sad at the same time.
Still a Lot of Rocksongs in the second half of the 80s. And also typical „Stock Aitken Waterman“ Sound of course 😎
Class of 87 Pinole Valley High.
Wait! What?! Is that Michael J. Fox singing?!?! At 3:09 ???

@Tony-f5s9s Wow, I never knew any of this! Cool! Thanks, for looking it up! I'll have to look up the movie! 😊
Where is "Just Like Heaven" - The Cure?
Hit the top 40 for one week in January 1988.
@@ericthuemmel5275 But the UK's Top 30 in late October 1987.
@@rjjcms1looks like they’re taking american chart positions - “Don’t dream it’s over” was 1986 here in Oz, as was “funky town” by Pseudo Echo

What about September 1989?
It will be out tomorrow morning at the usual time.
@@cshattin you know some of us are addicted to your videos!
@@ericthuemmel5275I know I am lol! 😅 I look forward to it everyday. 😊
@@cshattinThank You! And Thank You for this 87 rundown! 😊
It’s LL “Cool” J.
Grateful Dead, not Grateful Day
Why are so many songs from 19888 on this list?
They debuted in 1987 on the charts but they peaked in 1988. It can take weeks from hitting the top 40 until it peaks.
JIMMY LEE CAME OUT IN 1985 NOT 1987
I think 1986 was better.

Obvious omission - I Want Your Sex George Michael
This was a down year for 80s music. There were a few gems but it was nowhere near as good as 1986.
