I grew up in the 90s and comedy actually was actually great back then imo ..... Chris Rock "bring the pain" was a classic standup....dave chapplles first special "killing them softly is classic.snl had the best cast ever.....Seinfeld, fresh prince for sitcoms.....too many classic 90s comedies to mention.....was a great era....comedies been neutered though it's a shame

Redbar's commentary on this Shane thing is unparalleled. "Shane's a new man now; he wants to be part of Hollywood." That sums it up. Gillis' carefree frat bro persona and his typically unfiltered style aren't gonna' fly in the industry. During the LOS podcast he didn't take any risks or take cracks at anyone. Where's that trademark barstool humor and no-hold-barred roasting? Shane can't be funny anymore because he's HIT THE BIGTIME ***glass shattering sound effect***

He’s acting gay about it but it’s literally life changing money that could set his family up for generations. He’s doing the rational thing honestly.
It was so scummy when they did that. Shane had just spent a week working closely with those people, and partying with them. Apparently the scumbag was secure in his assumption that the snl people are so irredeemably vile he thought Shane would shit all over them. Skanks indeed. No wonder their audience is shit. I mean, "did you fuck that bitch?" that's the opposite of funny. In that context that's only funny if you have the mind of sixteen year old.
Shane fans need constant reminding that Shane WANTED to be on SNL. The gayest, PC, sjw show on TV. He signed up, he went to the audition, he accepted the job. #NeverForget

I was so confused why all the comics were acting like Shane did so well and it was so triumphant. It was fine. Shane’s funny, but it was such a middle of the road episode. Like every episode. Looking forward to when everyone turns on him for being a sellout in two years.
The skits Shane did with McKeever are leagues beyond what SNL does. I'm not talking about the humor, it's always subjective after all. But the McKeever videos are well shot, great editing, fun background characters, very dynamic and fun. The SNL videos are all about goofy wigs, host awkwardly reading his lines from the teleprompter, forced background laughter. This format needs to die out, just looks lame and lazy all around.
A lot of Shane's fans were excited that his hosting SNL would be a great break for McKeever as well, but I think he is way too good for SnL, his talent will be wasted.
SNL is live though, as they thoroughly explained in this clip. So there's an inherent difference that shatters your comparison

I’m two minutes in, and I already know he’s in the zone. This is the Redbar I really enjoy. In all the silliness, he pulls out his perspective, life experience, and that he keeps his finger on the pulse of all things entertainment nonsense, and gives is the goods.
It’s funny because Shane’s my favorite comedian and I still enjoy Mike’s takes because he’s saying unpopular and hilarious opinions. Some are dead on and some are exaggerated for the bit, but I love Redbar. Also Shane is fat and DISGUSTING💥

I think people just age out of watching it and for a few years you convince yourself that the quality dropped. It’s like saying “arcades suck now. I used to love going to them.” Arcades are actually better now with more options and high quality games. We’re just not 14 anymore.

Nick mullen's special is a perfect example of this. I've heard him do funnier, edgier versions of all those bits in the special so the special felt watered down.
I don't agree with the sentiment about how it used to be better. That perception is because stand up ages like milk. Go watch Louis CK stuff, it sucks now but seemed really great when it first came out. Louis isn't able to evolve enough to put out anything that doesn't feel like a different version of a thing he already did. It's the same with all these other guys.
Standup really doesn't lend to this much overexposure. You are at your peak when someone is seeing you for the first time.
There's a podcast interview where Shane Gillis specifically says to Sam hyde that he copied all his mannerisms. Imagine saying that to another man. Lock him up

So Redbar is a radio show? Syndicated, I assume. I heard Vic Berger mention it on the Office Hours Live podcast/youtube show, which is phenomenal. This show seems pretty legit
Only a podcast if you can believe it. Mike does everything himself including running his own website and building the studio you see.
This might not be a popular opinion but I've always found Mikey Day to be the real star of SNL since he started in 2013.
Shane Gillis has finally hit Burr status. “Antihero” comedian who gets his turn in the spotlight and starts to conform to Hollywood standards. Not long before MSSP becomes unlistenable like Monday morning podcast and we start seeing Shane in streaming services like Netflix and Hulu.

I thought it was just a mid episode, and it's only mid because Shane's presence bumped it up a few points for me.
