Critically important, though (and left out here), was the run out of Martin Guptill he effected for the first breakthrough. That meant there was a new batsman, Brendan McCullum, for him to work on. For four dot balls he pitched it up to him. Finally off the last ball, Baz stepped out, Herath fired it wide, and Sanga completed the stumping. Against Mathews his next over, Kane WIlliamson scored an effortless 5, leaving new man Ross Taylor to face Herath's 2nd. Immediately he was on the defensive. Surviving a good shout on the 4th ball, Taylor missed a careless flick off the 5th and was plumb. New man Jimmy Neesham was bowled next ball, and NZ was 4 down. Williamson and Luke Ronchi found no trouble scoring even against Lasith Malinga, and Williamson was facing when Herath came on for his 3rd over. After 13 dot balls, the 14th is a single to Williamson, but the 15th is the wicket of the unprepared Ronchi. With Corey Anderson out injured, NZ was down to the bowlers. The other spinner Sachithra Senanayake took two, before Herath came back on for his last over. As in his first over, his first delivery yielded a runout, this time of the top-scoring Williamson for 42(43). His third yielded the final wicket of Trent Boult, and SL were on to the knockout stage.
