Nowadays, even cheap samsung phone promises up to 5 years of software support. It's fabulous that they added ip68 while still maintaing it's gaming phone identiy and upgrade overall camera speces. But I think for a phone that costs over $1000, they should be more serious about their enthusiasts.

Oh, and then a thicker battery for well you know longer gaming, because 'Gaming Phone'. At least assuming this is the highest tier, they finally brought back that 1TB of storage and more RAM!
The ROG's cooling fans are too heavy and for me it actually makes the game experience a bit unenjoyable. Just use a watercooling phone coolers like Nishen, they're completely quiet, much cooler, and much lighter.
I feel like Asus needs to market the gaming phones as everyday driver phones also make them more everyday driver friendly like the S24+. Snap Draggon gen 3 chip, 24gigs of ram 1440p display, 165Watt charging, Samsung cameras, big battery, expandable storage and headphone jack located at top of phone. I think Asus has completely missed the mark on this one, it's no longer a gaming smartphone, it's a standard, banal smartphone, and on top of that too expensive, with a mediocre camera system and only 2 years of Android update 🤦🏽♂️ $1100 for that is way too expensive and brings nothing more than an iPhone 15 Pro Max, OnePlus 12, Xiaomi 14 or future Galaxy S24 Ultra with an active cooling system attached to the back 🤷🏽♂️ I think Asus should have simply updated the design of the Zenphone 7 Pro, kept its 6000 mAh battery 🔋 or even increased to 6500 mAh,lower the price by $200, offer at least 3-4 years of Android update, but above all, kept its active cooling system. This smartphone is really not a good deal, and especially no more of a gaming smartphone especially against a $700-$800 Redmagic 9 Pro, it's clearly not a gaming smartphone.

Nothing beats the Asus Rog Phone 5s I've had it for 3 years no issues or heat, if mines broke down I would get the same phone again smooth soft and the cameras is small fits in my hand nicely while gaming.
You never mention the price. This phone is ridiculously expensive at $1,200 for the base model. That surely has to be a factor in whether or not to recommend it.
I hope u guys can be the first company to make a gaming android tablet with air trigger and 2 charging ports. I will support no matter how expensive it is.
It's good that ASUS is making the ROG phone appeal to a wider audience, while maintaining the powerful performance of a gaming centric device. Let's see how well it'll sell with this approach. 👏
Wow. I have never been more disappointed in a product. I can now safely say there's no phone on the market that I like. As an ROG phone 7 owner, seing things like a hole punch camera, the downgrade in speakers (unbelievable, not even front facing anymore), the smaller battery, the removal of the led notification light (rip forever) brings me to tears (not literally, of course). 🤮 🤢 I gotta take really good care of my rog phone 7, it'll have to last me a good while.
The old design will come back... Would rather have a small bezel which offers better sound, better battery in expense of a slightly small display, than this. Also not to mention comparing to the older model which has a small vent, I believe the cooling is wayyyyyyy better compared to a perfectly sealed one .
@@Baleygrr do I have to try that phone specifically to know I don't like hole punch cameras? No! I see plenty of phones with it and I hate it. Do I have to listen to that phone specifically to know front firing speakers are better? No.
@@nicks5370 it is clearly outlined on my initial comment I won't buy this phone. This is a RUclips comment section, if you don't want to read comments saying they don't like the phone, don't open the comments.
Damn, I really liked the four buttons on the previous active cooler, got quite used to them. That small detail and replacing the ultrasonic triggers might keep me from upgrading my ROG phone 7 ultimate.
Asus really has cut not just the corners, but the entire middle in order to appeal to everyone. I definitely appreciate the IP68 rating and the matrix display on the back, but it is not worth so many downgrades. Most noticeably, the sustained thermal performance, you know, the one thing ROG phones were supposed to be amazing at. And I'm talking about just the phone itself, without the AeroActive Cooler 8, because it doesn't come in the box unless you buy the ultimate edition, not to mention the average person isn't going to be carrying it around everywhere with them, especially in their pockets. Last year the Xiaomi 13 Ultra actually had much better sustained thermal performance than the ROG phone 7 Ultimate, and that isn't even a gaming phone. Not to mention that already has IP68 dust and water resistance, fast wireless charging, amazing cameras and everything else a true flagship has. This year Xiaomi introduced many phones with vapour chambers twice or even quadruple the size, so Asus really needs to step up. All this wouldn't matter if the phone was actually reasonably-priced. But no, it costs far more than other flagships and offers less, while not even doing the main thing it is made to do properly. No.
Those things are not even that bad for me. But far the worst downgrade are the speakers. Pretty much ever since Rog Phone 3 they were leading by far, now it's meh, just to thin the bezels. It used to be a smartphone for some, now it's a smartphone for none. I'm sad.
Yup, just buy xiaomi and let them steal all of ur data 😂 Then u will ask why many people know my phone number? My google history? Or my security number 😂

nice vid, unfortunately its hard for me to get the rog phone 7 here in the UK (been out of stock on the asus site for ages) and i don't want to get one from aliexpress as i've heard people had issues with those ones. touch response being really slow or mobo issues etc. so i've just pre-ordered an rog phone 8 although i wish it still had the dual front facing speakers and the subwoofer, though I think its time to replace my rog phone 3 otherwise i'd like to wait for the rog phone 9 instead. I agree with others, theres too many downgrades here.
I have the redmagic 8 pro. I was thinking of upgrading to the Asus due to the camera updates, but damn, it's a pass for now, the redmagic camera system is not that bad anyway. I'll wait for the ROG phone 9 if they will go back to making legit gaming phones, if not I'd, probably stick to the redmagic series.
@@sysechobrentheir speakers are unfortunately completely ass somehow. Well, not that bad maybe but worse than an iPhone which is quite bad compared to Rog Phones.
How did this phone get a 4.6 rating. It’s has no exceptional strengths in all the aspects tested. It’s supposed to be a gaming phone but I guess in the quest to make it a more daily driver they have removed most of the aspects that made it a proper gaming phone. Heck without the cooler the performance and throttling is the same maybe even worse that other Sgen3 devices. And the pricing in the UK is ridiculously 😅.
@@Baleygrr Well maybe the 8 pro is faster at certain tasks. But the 7 pro has dual stereo speakers which the 8 pro does not. (Earpiece doubles as a speaker) So in a side by side speaker test the 8 pro would get brutally RAPED by the 7 pro, right?

already got my ROG 8 pro Edition and its a "Beast" for having 24ram and 1TB storage. Best feature I'd say for long gaming, it cools faster that the ROG 7 Ultimate. Yes, kinda dismayed with removing the subwoofer in the cooler and no longer build front speakers. But if you have Cetra, that should be fine. (The punch whole sucks, but you can adjust the screen, from full screen to cropped. Overall, definitely a recommended gaming phone.

do note that this gen rog phone have a hole punch screen similar to most flagship phone, non symmetrical speaker which is front facing and botton firing with 1.3 and 1.0cc, no dual dac, and a tone down design
Why don't they make the phone like a Nintendo switch so that you can slide controllers in. And if it was modular and you can add a speaker or power bank or a hybrid speaker power bank.

They could have gone to an all aluminum frame for better passive cooling, ofc no wireless charging but not a bad thing for a gaming phone. and also, widen those bezzles cause nobody plays with a phone case and narrow bezzles makes your palm do unwanted touches, either this or make a case that doesn't cover the back of the phone and include it in the box.
I'm terribly late to this comment, but to me, this is a horrendous downgrade from the 7th. I'm so incredibly mad that I lost my rog 7th. To date, it has been the only phone i have ever lost. The punch camera is something i hate in modern phones. To add insult to injury, there are other gaming phones that have circumvented this issue by hiding the camera underneath the screen, I don't know how they did it, but they did. Hopefully, the 9th will bring back the 7th style.
Well that's really disappointing I was planning on getting a ROG phone looks like I'll be looking at one of the older models instead of this crap The whole point of the phone is to be all about gaming and they downgrade the gaming cap
since the hot, slow and b.draining s22 i don't buying Exynos phones never ever again and so after using my s23 for nearly a year which looks very beat up now, i just bought the Asus Rog Phone 8 last week and i'm pretty happy with it. i absolutely don't game on any phone I've ever used. i just wanted a decent looking and fluid performing Snapdragon powered phone with rounded corners. the Rog 8 comes with a pretty nice package and a charger in the box. coming from more than 10 years of constantly buying and using Samsung phones and tablets it's just a little bit different using the Asus Ui. it's so much more fluent and better performing than any Samsung I've ever had in my hand's, it's so much better!! i'm very happy with the Rog 8 so far. i've paid 1090€ and i think it's relatively fair for the package you get. i'm buying Asus motherboards and graphic cards for many years and Asus always delivers at very high quality standards. if Asus would build a tablet i instantly would buy it. there are options outside the Samsung ecosystem and Exynos crippled devices and when you don't want to buy an Apple iPhone or support the CCP with buying an Xiaomi or Oppo, i think Asus i by far the best option for you.
The zenfone 11 ultra should have been the rog phones, where there are different colors. Also considering how the price of the rog is similar to a Samsung S24 ultra, this would make rog a good choice since s24 ultra has different colors. Having the larger storage and ram on the rog makes it more competitive against S24 ultra. Two usb slots, headphone jack and air pressure sensors makes a nice additional for the price of 1200$ plus. Thus, the zenfone could have kept compact.
Lol. They removed crucial features that the majority of its users loved. LED, front facing speakers. Asus has also shown their middle finger to us, by locking the bootloader and providong ZERO support for it. Pathetic.
Not only it has that ugly punch hole front camera that I hate, the LED notification is also removed? Damn. Ugliest hardware design so far. Now the front looks like a common smartphone.

Nothing beats the Asus Rog Phone 5s I've had it for 3 years no issues or heat, if mines broke down I would get the same phone again smooth soft and the cameras is small fits in my hand nicely while gaming.
dont worry it will, like so many other consumers
For gaming phones, I'd much prefer the selfie cam to be under thescreen similar to nubia.
worse quality though
Or a pop up like the one plus 7

You never mention the price. This phone is ridiculously expensive at $1,200 for the base model. That surely has to be a factor in whether or not to recommend it.
I hope u guys can be the first company to make a gaming android tablet with air trigger and 2 charging ports. I will support no matter how expensive it is.
All this money and yet 2yrs of support plus 4 years of patches.
These are a waste of money, No thanks.
i like your review as you are explaining the real things that are missing and also telling about what you get in return!
It's good that ASUS is making the ROG phone appeal to a wider audience, while maintaining the powerful performance of a gaming centric device. Let's see how well it'll sell with this approach. 👏
Not bad, a great improvement
this is a gaming phone so i’m not sure why they are making it more like a vanilla smartphone
At this price you can get way better specs and performance from S24 ultra
“Powerful performance” it has the exact same performance as other flagships. Only difference is that unlike other phones is its camera is trash.
@@Zamani736😂😂 but price is more and no headphone jack and accessories in your smartphone
I love gsmarena❤❤❤from 2011
🤮 🤢
I gotta take really good care of my rog phone 7, it'll have to last me a good while.
The old design will come back... Would rather have a small bezel which offers better sound, better battery in expense of a slightly small display, than this. Also not to mention comparing to the older model which has a small vent, I believe the cooling is wayyyyyyy better compared to a perfectly sealed one .
stop ur drama if you don't like it dont buy it... they never ask u to buy it...🤷
You haven't even tried the phone. ROG 8 is awesome.
Actually ZENFONE wrap in ROG 😂
Damn, I really liked the four buttons on the previous active cooler, got quite used to them. That small detail and replacing the ultrasonic triggers might keep me from upgrading my ROG phone 7 ultimate.
Basically its downgrade for gaming
I'll stay with my rog 7 ultimate
No.
Also the thermal cooling is downgraded from 4 buttons to only 2. Did not have kunai gamepad compatibility and no more front dual speakers.
Those things are not even that bad for me. But far the worst downgrade are the speakers. Pretty much ever since Rog Phone 3 they were leading by far, now it's meh, just to thin the bezels. It used to be a smartphone for some, now it's a smartphone for none. I'm sad.
Yup, just buy xiaomi and let them steal all of ur data 😂
Then u will ask why many people know my phone number?
My google history?
Or my security number 😂
@@Aryues you mean Huawei and HONOR products right?
@063dharmeshrajan5most RUclipsrs get paid by Asus to say “Wow! This is the most super powerful smartphone on Earth!!” This is especially true true with the big name RUclipsrs
Asus Rog geme 1 2 3 5 6:7. Yyyyy. 8❤❤😊😊🇵🇷🇺🇲🗽
nice vid, unfortunately its hard for me to get the rog phone 7 here in the UK (been out of stock on the asus site for ages) and i don't want to get one from aliexpress as i've heard people had issues with those ones. touch response being really slow or mobo issues etc. so i've just pre-ordered an rog phone 8 although i wish it still had the dual front facing speakers and the subwoofer, though I think its time to replace my rog phone 3 otherwise i'd like to wait for the rog phone 9 instead. I agree with others, theres too many downgrades here.
RIP Gaming style 😢
3:00 what is this attachment that hooks up to your controller?
*_It would have been a perfect phone if it only had a Micro SD card slot._*
It looks good yes but since it lost the gaming advantages, I don't see why I should buy this phone rather than a galaxy s24..
I have the redmagic 8 pro. I was thinking of upgrading to the Asus due to the camera updates, but damn, it's a pass for now, the redmagic camera system is not that bad anyway. I'll wait for the ROG phone 9 if they will go back to making legit gaming phones, if not I'd, probably stick to the redmagic series.
redmagic is way ahead of its competition
@@sysechobrentheir speakers are unfortunately completely ass somehow. Well, not that bad maybe but worse than an iPhone which is quite bad compared to Rog Phones.
They just released the red magic 9. Go with that. I love the red magic lineup
@@ianschilhab6222 Not worth the upgrade from the 8 pro for now, mine isn't even a year old yet lol. Maybe on the 10 pro mate.
Redmagic wins this year I think
How did this phone get a 4.6 rating. It’s has no exceptional strengths in all the aspects tested. It’s supposed to be a gaming phone but I guess in the quest to make it a more daily driver they have removed most of the aspects that made it a proper gaming phone. Heck without the cooler the performance and throttling is the same maybe even worse that other Sgen3 devices.
And the pricing in the UK is ridiculously 😅.
It's actually a downgrade.
@@shaunigothictv1003Except it's not. I have it and it absolutely owns the previous ROG 7.
@@Baleygrr Well maybe the 8 pro is faster at certain tasks.
But the 7 pro has dual stereo speakers which the 8 pro does not. (Earpiece doubles as a speaker)
So in a side by side speaker test the 8 pro would get brutally RAPED by the 7 pro, right?
@@shaunigothictv1003 I have both ROG 7 and 8 Pro. They sound about the same actually and the 8 Pro is way lighter and more comfortable in my hand. 8 wins by a long shot.
@@Baleygrr Ok so you tested both side by side.
Thats fine.
I guess I wanted the 8 pro to be RAPED in a battle with the 7 pro.
I guess the legs of the 8 pro would not have been open WIDE enough and for LONG enough for any RAPE to occur.
Another mainstream phone to skip and buy a real flagship phone with proper software support.
Suits you
already got my ROG 8 pro Edition and its a "Beast" for having 24ram and 1TB storage.
ROG beat Nothing to the led back panel😂
I haven't owned any ROGs yet, but i always have wanted to buy 1. I think they should remain one version full gaming beast phone. Make the mainstteam version separetaly. No ?
do note that this gen rog phone have a hole punch screen similar to most flagship phone, non symmetrical speaker which is front facing and botton firing with 1.3 and 1.0cc, no dual dac, and a tone down design
bro they released a new controller for the phone called the ROG Tessen controller
Why don't they make the phone like a Nintendo switch so that you can slide controllers in. And if it was modular and you can add a speaker or power bank or a hybrid speaker power bank.
Hmm, buy or skip, and waiting for ROG9
Front Camera- ASUS. Design,Display,Size,Cooling,RGB,Trigger,Speaker- Nubia Red Magic 9 Pro
Red Magic speakers are definitely worse though
Any1 knows anything if Asus will release an rog 8 ultimate Version or is the pro the highest version this time?
Now people gonna flock on Nubia
Asus did a very good work with the 8 Pro version 👏
All I want it's a gaming phone with weak camera and Speakers they makd the phone more expensive and I don't really want them. With good sceen, storage and processor. For less than 500$. I was looking for a Rogue but the were so expensive that I give on them and take Samsung S21 ultra. Only profesional gamers (most of them streamers) buy them.
imagine giving any fks about cameras on a GAMING PHONE 😅 trying to take 0.00001% of apple/samsung users? good luck!
the triggers not responding to long press on a GAMING PHONE is pathetic 😅 how are you gonna ads in shooters? tap ads? then why do you even need triggers.....lol
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏Don't buy rog phones they provide charger in box only after if anything happens you don't get charger anywhere in india .i have tried soo many times .i call service centres and company helping still there is no solution in delhi ..😢😢😢😢
Please don't byy rog phone
I have rog , 3 and rog 5 .still no response
*Those material won't last 3 months* words will start to go missing in 3 months and in a year the LED light will stop working.
Pathetic.
Camera bump looks like it might stop a lot of the peripherals from working kishi gamesir etc
I don't care about modern. And I hate the camera punch out. No more front facing speakers??? Just to be modern?? 😱
The ROG is dead!
Does anyone know if this has a better speaker and camera than the Iphone 14 Pro Max? thanks!
Not only it has that ugly punch hole front camera that I hate, the LED notification is also removed? Damn. Ugliest hardware design so far. Now the front looks like a common smartphone.
7 has 4 buttons and subwoofer. I prefer that. Useful. Kickstand eventually broke. Sad rinky dink design. The spring lock mechanism on cooler sucks. Pops open if you barely touch it wrong.
It is disappointing ROG at this price you can get s24 ultra with far better camera quality even better hardware and software I really wanted to get this but now nehh😢
I’d rather get redmagic 9 pro with these exact same specs and 500€ cheaper.
At least make it a bit cheaper like 700€ would be reasonable
Why now Asus? Several amazing variants of Asus rog phones and NOW you decide to bring back the 1TB memory on a phone with less features??? Who the hell is making the decisions over there????
Redmagic is king now.......❤
Why the hell u don't show the 4k60fps video quality sample even the other phone u review u only show 4k30fps video when the phone is capable of 4k60 lol try to improve yourself it's already 2024.
I saw in real life and the display was the nicest ive ever seen but now I see it only 1080p, but why is it so good in real life. like shocking, like a 2k display
I was using Asus rog 5s, I have never seen such a disgraceful phone, the technical support is very inadequate, it shut down while playing games and did not turn on again, go buy Nokia, do not waste your money.
"Armory crate" is a reason to skip this phone. They still didn't realize what kind of s****y software they built for desktop. They want to spread that s***. Disappointing.
