- Get to know the extraordinary, bald and buck-toothed naked mole rats and how their traits make them suited to survive harsh conditions.
--
What mammal has the social life of an insect, the cold-bloodedness of a reptile, and the metabolism of a plant? Bald and buck-toothed, naked mole-rats may not be pretty, but they are extraordinary. Thomas Park explains how mole rats' peculiar traits have evolved over millions of years to make them uniquely suited to survive harsh conditions - especially long periods without oxygen.
Lesson by Thomas Park, animation by Chintis Lundgren.

Interesting, but missing some other highlights about mole rats, like their resistance to cancer. There's more to these little mammals. Viewers should explore these animals further, for example by reading Wikipedia.
Fun fact wikipedia is not a reliable source.
From the temperature regulation thing, hairlessness makes sense. Hair helps our bodies to maintain a consistent internal temperature, but if their bodies do not warm up, there's no temperature to insulate and maintain. Therefore, growing hair would just be a waste of resources.

I love the voice of the narrator. Its calming. Love these vedios.
nice lesson! thanks.
so fructose would be better to eat in space than glucose.... so high fructose corn syrup is useful again? ps. anyone else see this video and think of Kim possible Rufus? :)
Fructose doesn't need oxygen to be used but gives much less energy than glucose + oxygen. That's why they don't move while using it.
i love this animation. interesting and adorable
