Same album over and over and over again isn't good. You could say that it is... overkill haha... No change, no evolution, no real excitement for me. If you like the bands sound that is from their early days, listen to those albums. Metallica has shown that it can evolve and still kick ass. That's exciting.
As far as Metallica playing Sabbath, the middle of You Must Burn was killer! Honestly, there's something about this album's songwriting I find really captivating. Almost any song I put on, I'm thinking "this song.. could this be my favorite track on the album?". Anyways, I'd say they put some real love and effort into crafting these tunes, no tracks really feel like simple radio singles nor underdeveloped filler. They are songs that grow on you. They tend to repeat sections longer than necessary, but it's easy to get lost in the music and have an hour pass in no time.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but this is the first record where I felt like the guitar solo on most the songs hurt them more than help. Kirk sounds like a little kid screaming in the corner saying look what I can do but what he's doing is elementary. It just adds nothing.
13:03 THIS!! RIGHT HERE!!! there’s good stuff on this album, but it’s all bogged down by endless repetition. Like most of the songs need 2-3 mins lopped off, or the album as a whole needs almost 30mins totally cut 🤷♂️
Exactly what I have been saying since it came out. It's pretty bad if even someone like myself can recognize it that quickly... If they just learned how to edit, or had someone who could say no to them, this album would have been above average. And yet people are still giving it an 8/10 as is when it's this tedious. And on the flip side, Inamorata is their longest song, and yet it actually attempts to go somewhere, unlike the rest of the album. What a novel concept...

OK I can appreciate the fact that Sam has built a business and I'm happy for him but the whole reason a lot of us were so happy about this channel was our love for the metal journey movie and I know he's probably a busy guy but this is one he needs to do himself.
The biggest problem with that album is the drumming. Lars just cruises over riffs and riffs transitions like he's not listening to what's going on. He pretty much plays the same three beats over and over through the entire album. That's not nearly good enough to make an hour album listenable. It just drags and drags endlessly. 2 out of 10 for me.
McTallica is the McDonald's Happy Meal of metal. When we were younger it was the coolest thing, but then we grew up and realized that the most basic oversaturated garbage doesn't cut it anymore. Sure, I still enjoy a basic McDonald's cheeseburger when I need something fast and relatively harmless to fill a hunger void. James is the cheeseburger. Kirk is the cold fries that only taste good with lots of salt (wah pedal). Robert is the pack of apples that don't belong in the Happy Meal because it has too much value and nutrition (talent). Lars is the cheap toy that breaks in five minutes after taking out of the package that gets played with for five seconds and then forgotten. There's little to no nutritional value in a McDonald's Happy Meal, but chomp down on 72 Seasons because why not and Merica'!
my first listen, i too said 'its trash', I don't play guitar. But Dekay has live learned the entire album on twitch stream and he helped pick out some cool riffs that I can appreciate. It has some good riffs mixed in there.

I never get what people expect from MetallicA.. We are talking about the band who covered Bob Seger and a acoustic Thin Lizzy song and have Elton John and Miley Cyrus doing covers. They are never going to release a modern experimental metal album. Especially when the band is full of 60-year-old guys. Most of the older bands still around have replaced some key members with younger guys to up the pace (Megadeth). I think Lars goes hard and plays in his lane. I was surprised to hear them do doom style songs, Burn the witch could be on a Candlemass album. I agree about the cover. The merch for this album will suck. I also don't get people with their "They have all the money they need why do they need to release a album" attitude. You should never say to a muso that they should not follow their passion to create music and I'm so sick of people whining about a band having too many songs on album. Some blatant ageism in this review. Love Dekays attitiude. Embrace MetallicA while we can before they are like Slayer and all we have a memories. Solid album and can't wait for the next one...
I'm a fan of Blayne, but I have to agree. He came off incredibly gatekeepy and elitist here... Not that he was wrong on points - he was right on several. But the whole age and money thing? That bugged me, too. Metallica can, will, and should write _what they want_ to write, and those who aren't into it don't have to be. We will enjoy what we will enjoy. Megadeth is old and is still thrash, but Dave also fires anyone who doesn't keep up, who doesn't agree, and can't keep a lineup to save his life. There are other examples in other groups too... (I like Megadeth too, but the truth is the truth) Lastly - Metallica uses that big money and sinks it into touring and the crazy shit they set up for live events. They are and have always been a live/touring band, and that's where they put their money. Their connection to fans has always been at the shows. So they use that enormous budget for _us_ when we go see them. I wish I could afford it - but anyone I've ever known to see them live has all agreed it was worth it. I'll also add that Metallica has a great track record of taking and playing songs that were below average in what we call "quality" so much better live.
@@thepixelglitched I don't understand how the same people who were saying how amazing Luzifer and their terrible take on trad metal were last year can have anything bad to say about Metallica. LOL Thanks for your comments
Blayne talks about Too Far Gone, but Atlas Rise off of Hardwired was pretty much a NWOBHM type song too. Those early influences have been showing more in both their last 2 albums.
@@pleasuretokillah. I also enjoy this effort the most of the post-Jason era tbh. DM was allover the place, few good songs but also some terrible ones, still with one foot in the St. Anger Nü-tallica approach. The production is god-awful as well. 72S is so much more focussed and well written. I enjoy the fresher Kill/Black/Load-album style vibe instead of chasing after a lesser iteration of AJFA or MoP. But to each his own ofcourse
@@ShapeshifteR-TheAnomalyGameCat damn bro. Pass me whatever youre smokin. Cyanide was the only bad song on DM the rest were bangers. No song on 72 is as good as All Nightmare Long, Judas Kiss, My Apocalypse or That Wa Just Your Life. DM is the closest thing to 80s Metallica we will ever get again. 72 Seasons has more boring mid tempo Black Album-ish stuff on it. Comparing DM and St Anger is a hilariously bad take. Its better to compare it to AJFA which it sounds way more like. 72 Seasons is decent for mid tempo playing it safe Metallica. Death Magnetic was the last look we will ever get into faster, 80s style thrash Metallica.
@@pleasuretokill All i know is that i enjoy 72S the most of the last four albums. Shoot me. If i want real thrash i put on an old Slayer/Sepultura/Exodus/Coroner/Kreator/Destruction/Dark Angel/Sodom, hell, even a Testament album. Metallica has always been half-assed thrash to begin with, it's heavy/speed metal just as much-even back in their prime. Too melodic and not fast and agressive enough to ever be full-on thrashmetal. Period. Just like Megadeth.
The guitar melodies and harmonies sound like Cliff co-wrote them, and James' riffs, vocals and lyrics are awesome. Kirk's solos are very soulful as well.
I LOVE the energy between these two, haha. Tho, I have to agree with Blayne. I mean...regarding bands with 30+ years of shreddin, Mayhem still kicks ass, for example. And not to mention Megadeth, of course...
Apples and oranges. Mayhem is a joke with no original members in a band. Megadeth is also Daves solo project where he is constantly changing band members. you cant compare them to 3 guys who are making music for 40 years .
Greate review! Love this album. Really, man, 60 years old guys have to reenvent metal???? Give me a break. They just greate. Love them while they are here, alive and can give us some more cool music.
St. Anger has some damn great songs. It's odd that Blane complains about heavy metal lyrics. Really? Come on now. The yellow theme is excellent. It stands out from all the other albums.
I like it a lot. Grown on me alot. Too far gone? Room of Mirros, Chasing Light, Inamorata, Shadows Follow and 72 Seasons are great. Tbh I like You Must Burn! and Crown of Barbed Wire too.
*_I'll say what I said: I often wondered if what I was hearing was AI or lazy old men playing Hard Rock._* *_I tricked 22 friends and co-workers(on same group chat/thread), by either claiming a song was AI or have them guess which songs were AI. Metallica just set the bar so high with the first 4 records. And then they broke through to the mainstream with the 5th one (witch still is a great LP, not a thrash LP, but a great metal record). And now, whatever they do, they'll just never going to live up to those 5 records.
I love this album! Most consistent release since The Black Album, with some really great songs and riffs! Has a great attitude too! My list of favorites grow everytime I listen to it, and only Sleepwalk My Life Away really doesn't do it for me at all... It sleepwalks all the way to the end imo hahaha! The rest of the songs all have a place on the album, although I do think that some trimming in places and some more effort on Kirk's part in the solo department (he probably was doing more surfing than time composing solos like you mentioned Blayne haha) would have took it up on the pedastal from really shiny Bronze to Silver (Gold being considered timeless classic here).
@@nealwexler666 Too bad drumming and arrengement of the songstructures, a common problem with newer Metallica. Bob Rock and themselves ruined all. I still consider 72 seasons the greatest since AJFA.
@@ThreszheR Sure they're enjoyable, but lazy for the most part. We all know he can do better if he just puts in the effort. Some of the solos on here are pretty damn good, and you immediately notice that he actually took some time to compose it properly.
Maybe I had low expectations but I ended up liking this record a lot more than I thought I would. There are great moments on this record. I'd give it a 7/10
It's a grower for sure. Really like it after 3 listens. There's not a song I feel like I need to skip and I even find some of the mid-tempo songs stuck in my head so I can't complain. Blayne is way too harsh, but I agree they should take more chances, but maybe we don't want to admit this is the music they just want to play.
Agreed - and I also very much enjoy it. I'll also add that James just said in an interview with Kerrang!: "...As selfish as it sounds... We write this stuff for ourselves. And we're the harshest critics of all. So, it makes sense that it sounds like _us"_ Also, he said: “Just put your heart out there, it can’t be wrong.” Lastly, Kirk had a good comment too: "We *know* our fans care. We know our fans care _intensely._ And we also know our fans get... stuck in the minutia... (laughs) and in the details... and they can go down the rabbit hole... and that's their stuff. That's not our stuff. Our job is to go out there and make the best music we can, that _accurately_ reflects what our creative musical mindset is... at _that particular_ time." At the end of the day - they always will have my respect for being authentic - both to themselves, and to us.
I do also think that this _is_ what they want to play. I'm with the guys on some sections often are too long and could be more concise (and the overuse of false intro/outros), but we have to remember: This is a jam band - and they always have been. For years now, they get together at HQ, and most of their writing comes from jam sessions. Even this album had some of that after lockdown opened up. They groove together for hours, enjoy it, and don't want to stop - and it shows in the music - for better or for worse.
I can't fathom telling Metallica they need to take more chances. This is the band that put out Load, Reload, two symphonic live albums, St. Anger, and Lulu for god's sake.
The critics don't know shit. It's a great album. In the critics eyes, there will never be a perfect album. Put it on, close your eyes and enjoy the ride.
Metallica is a band wich do music for themselves, this is why they have their own record label. The true fan of the band knows that. I like this album, if isn't their best album, at least is better then a lot of other albuns lauched recently.
I agree with Blayne, except I like long songs if they're interesting to listen to like on AJFA. Mediocra needs to get back to their roots or stick to greatest hits tours from here on out.
Metallica also is taking Motorheads space and Lars has fully become the Phil Rudd of Metal you know what to expect and he can do it good. No one knocks Phil or Malcom in AC/DC when it came to predictability in music lol
Thank you for saying it out loud! Love AC/DC - but holy shit, were they churning out derivativeness almost their entire career... MAN, there's plenty of same-y music in that whole generation. I'm a fan - but a lot of them failed to evolve, or just didn't want to. To each their own. But hey - at least Metallica has the balls to try. They and Rush have my respect for that.
Definitely the best sounding Metallica album production wise since the 90s. Their best this century. Totally dig it, length and all. NWOBHM all the way!🤘🤘🤘🤘out of 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Both Blayne and Daniel have good points here. Yes, Metallica wrote the book on thrash metal, and perhaps the extreme metal as a whole, so they have certainly earned the right to do whatever they damn well please. And I agree that they are honestly trying their best at this point to make the best metal they can. But also, we know they have it in them to make so much better metal, rather than just decent metal. Maybe it comes from being in the "pop/rock" areas of media and culture for so long instead of the metal areas they helped cultivate. But I still enjoyed the album for what it is, and I give it a 3. Death Magnetic is still my personal favorite of the new millennium Metallica.
Why should they feel that they have to live up to some hypothetical standard of "metal-ness" to please a bunch of bitchy weirdos who refuse to listen to anything that isn't straight-up metal?
They are musicians, their whole life has been about music. I am fking tired of people complaining about Metallica, AC DC and all this other fcking huge names, guys in their 60s and 70s who have been around for 40-50 years doing music. They are artist, musicians. If they enjoy making music and love touring what's the problem? Blayne's comment on the money element, that if the music is not good enough why the albums? Perhaps these MUSICIANS enjoy making music like anyone else? Seriously, what's wrong with people?
Excellent fellas, since I’m closer to their age than yours … I’m WAY more in the Daniel camp but Blaine made me laugh as usual so you both get 4 / 5 skulls for this review 🤘🏽
When a band gets to the "you can't expect it to actually be good" point it's definitely time to hang it up. I'm not surprised to hear a Canadian say this however because it explains a lot about Rush being praised long after their sell by date had come and gone.
Two things I have experienced with this album that I couldn’t reconcile: trying to consume the whole album and getting bored and distracted with it and then… hearing a song on a radio or watching a video on YT and enjoying it. So somehow Metallica created for me a new category of rock music: YT rock 😊 - but then how many bands can afford to make a good video to every song from their record? / that way “inamorata” that is difficult to digest as the last song when consumed as a video become my favorite song.
YT doesnt give it justice, it sounds way thinner than on CD or digital download. I almost didnt listen to album because I didnt like the sound on singles. huge difference.
It's definitely a grower. It's an okay album, hearable, but not their best. Death Magnetic has been their best since 2000, even if the production wasn't good.
This review should've been done by Daniel and Sam, or perhaps Sam himself. I love Blayne, but he was FAR too negative in this video for no reason. I can't really agree with any of his criticisms, except for Kirk's solos...which I still love. 2 out of 5? Talk about harsh. I love this album.
To my ears it seems as if the band followed an algorithm instead instead of writing an album with any sort passion or grit. It's like four guys punching in for work. It's not bad but it's far from great.
This is a record that will only be in my collection if it is a gift, if someone gives it to me, because I won't buy it even if I have extra money. From 1 to 5, I put a zero. I CAN'T TAKE JAMES' VOICE ANYMORE!
Here's the thing for me: Metallica is a meat and potatoes band these days...meaning they're four guys playing and they SOUND like four guys playing. They're not like Rush where there's three guys but they sound like six guys. They're more like ZZ Top of the 70s and 00s. And when you sound barebones like that, it's hard to keep my interest when songs are 6, 8, 10 minutes long. Bang out a song and make it end in four minutes. This is why ZZ Top doesn't have many long songs.
As a fan I agree with Blayne, I want them to take risks, love Metallica! But there were so many things that felt weird, more than anything the lyrics… it’s catchy tho, and with a couple of song I could listen every now and then. Still great to have them around making music.
The hate on Metellica is ridiculous and obnoxious. This new album is killer. Loaded with amazing riffs. They will never satisfy folks crying for 82' Mettalica. And goodvfor them, they could care less. They see the cynics for what they are. Complaining about money they make has blinded this guy about what's right in his fucking face. No one can touch Hetdield's riff outside of Iommi.
72 Seasons is a 6/10 for me. The riffs just drag on and the songwriting isn't very memorable. There's way better metal albums this year like Ne Obliviscaris, Enslaved, Insomnium, Obituary, Hellripper, or ...And Oceans.
@@Mari000 Metallica should go back to 8 to 10 well written songs per album. I wish Kirk Hammett had taken his time crafting his guitar solos. Rob & Lars have energy, but I wanted faster riffs from James. It's alright, but on the lower end of Metallica's discography.
@@SleepFan771 agreed. They need a more streamlined approach. I dont mind the slower pace of some songs, but a song like Inamorata needed a fast riff at some point. I think a lot songs from this lack of faster riffs.
14:15 I’m going to be completely honest; I think this is a bad take. Metallica lost all of it’s credible writers by 86 and it shows. Testament and Overkill have gotten older at a similar pace and yet they still release well made albums in a similar style to their first albums. I don’t understand why we put them (Metallica) on a pedestal while other metal bands will be torn to shreds for not releasing “up to snuff” material.
I think the people who don’t like the album are just over analyzing and dissecting it to the point of exhaustion. It’s metal and hard rock, not classical music.
Metallica is the biggest and arguably the best metal band of all time.F*** all the haters, this album is quite exciting. It has a bunch of amazing melodies and kick ass heavy riffs, although the solos could have been better and more exciting except on songs like Too far gone and You must burn. One thing I have noticed about this band over the last 14 yrs of listening to them is that they have a good understanding of what they want from each other and the parts they write individually seem to Match the overall mood they meant to create for the fans and listeners.
Blayne's attitude to Metallica is just bizarre. Why should they not produce music just because they're rich? Who is he to decide that they're not putting their hearts into it and genuinely trying to make the best music they can? Dislike the album, sure, but all the petty snipes about money and questioning the band's motives just seems a bit weird.
I love 72 seasons very much! Have a lot of fun with it!!! And say that kill em all meets load brings it to to point! But the bridge in Inamorata remembers me to the bridge in Orion. 😉
I think it’s fun it’s not their best or even close but I enjoyed it. It sounds like the guys are just enjoying themselves making music and I’m okay with that.
Blayne is the human embodiment of the comment section that metal elitists dwell in when anything Metallica is brought up lololol if it’s not death doom is nots good? Lol we had to even bully him into the pallet cleansers for metal monthly or he wouldn’t have them hahahaha
Cool to see there are still some people who can criticize such bands, no matter how big and iconic they are. This album was an absolute chore and I don't think I'll ever go back to it again (not for a full listen at least) There's just plenty of younger, more exciting and interesting bands out there to be blown away by for me to waste my time on this boring, thrash light bullshit. 5/10 or a 2.5/5 for me.
Sad that mediocre is considered monumental and emotionally uplifting. Love the first 5 (4?) but I've done my duty and tried and tried to love/like anything since then-- but most of it just sucks. And it sucks being a fan, because I WANT to love/like it. Anyhooo... still have the good 'ole days. I'm a grumpy old man now... get off my lawn.
Another symptom of the Metallica defense - it could be worse, AKA it's not St. Anger/Load/Reload/Lulu, so I can convince myself I like it more than I do.
The review was nice and you guys gave a lot of good objective comments, but the statement that old bands (35+ years) cant do great albums or bring anything new to the table is totally wrong. In an age where a lot of media are rehashing old content over and over, those old bands like Megadeth, Accept, Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, Voivod, Destruction, all of them released new records in which they take what made them powerful and important originally and make something new/meaningful without compromising their essence/style. Its kind of dissapointing to see Metallica dumb down on the lyrics, compared to what they used to write in the past, so its no excuse to say they cant make something powerful again.
Metallica need someone who has guts enough to tell them when an edit is needed and when something sucks. They have become the George Lucas of music.
The new albums would be 5 mins in length then.

OK I can appreciate the fact that Sam has built a business and I'm happy for him but the whole reason a lot of us were so happy about this channel was our love for the metal journey movie and I know he's probably a busy guy but this is one he needs to do himself.
Sam is probably busy reviewing scorched….and rightly so.
Have to disagree with Blayne on this one. They don't need 'an Editor'. What they need is 'a Cliff'.
perfect reviewing duo!!!! Daniel is such an wholesome and chill dude, genuinely a good guy. and Blayne's such a dick XD, but SO funny and also just genuinely such a nice guy! he's perfect with everybody! (I guess you can say I'm simping hard for the banger crew XD )
True. These 2 are favorite BangerTV hosts by far. Blayne and I rarely like the same shit but he is the king of lols.
(I like Megadeth too, but the truth is the truth)
Lastly - Metallica uses that big money and sinks it into touring and the crazy shit they set up for live events.
@@pickle2891 Lol, agreed again! And you’re welcome.
Blayne talks about Too Far Gone, but Atlas Rise off of Hardwired was pretty much a NWOBHM type song too. Those early influences have been showing more in both their last 2 albums.
The best tallica record since Black album.
loving the doubles review here guys. would love to see more of that.
I'm actually digging this album a lot. best metallica release this century.
Nope. That's Death Magnetic
Solid album. Inamorata is the best tune they've done in many years (IMO)
The guitar melodies and harmonies sound like Cliff co-wrote them, and James' riffs, vocals and lyrics are awesome. Kirk's solos are very soulful as well.
Many years? ugghhhh
Best Load song.
I LOVE the energy between these two, haha. Tho, I have to agree with Blayne. I mean...regarding bands with 30+ years of shreddin, Mayhem still kicks ass, for example. And not to mention Megadeth, of course...
yeah age is not a valid excuse. Neither is "not as bad as it could be". What a ringing endorsement for the album.
Apples and oranges. Mayhem is a joke with no original members in a band. Megadeth is also Daves solo project where he is constantly changing band members. you cant compare them to 3 guys who are making music for 40 years .
Megadeth you said the band only plays 1/2 songs live from their new album everytime they released a new album.
Greate review! Love this album. Really, man, 60 years old guys have to reenvent metal???? Give me a break. They just greate. Love them while they are here, alive and can give us some more cool music.
Hahaha you guys bantering is hilarious! Great balance between you two though for this review.
St. Anger has some damn great songs. It's odd that Blane complains about heavy metal lyrics. Really? Come on now. The yellow theme is excellent. It stands out from all the other albums.
I love the whole Album - Reminds ne a lot to doom and Thin lizzy Harmonic parts. NWOBHM was very well welcome on 72 Seasons - Great job!
That intro to 72 Seasons was kind of like metal meets surf - but in a good way!
My favorite critique people have for stuff is “it would be better if they did it how I want”
I dig 72 a lot and because of this gave Hardwired, Death Magnetic and St. Anger a second chance. Gonna purchase all the shit.
I like it a lot. Grown on me alot. Too far gone? Room of Mirros, Chasing Light, Inamorata, Shadows Follow and 72 Seasons are great. Tbh I like You Must Burn! and Crown of Barbed Wire too.
Do a review for the new Overkill! I love it. New Metallica, no comment 🙄
Sounds like every other Overkill album.
Love the double-review. Great jobs guys, really enjoyed it and i really can relay to both of you. Cheers
having two reviewers with different opinions on the same album is fun to watch! Don't normally say this, but I'm with Blayne on this one
*_I'll say what I said: I often wondered if what I was hearing was AI or lazy old men playing Hard Rock._*
*_I tricked 22 friends and co-workers(on same group chat/thread), by either claiming a song was AI or have them guess which songs were AI. They were all Metallica's songs, but they all thought at least 1 song was AI._*

Edit for silly spelling mistake. Very silly. But not ha-ha silly.
I think Death Magnetic was great and very consistent.
@@nealwexler666 And almost impossible to listen to because of the LOUDNESS problem. Even the much improved Guitar Hero version is loud as shit.
@@nealwexler666 Too bad drumming and arrengement of the songstructures, a common problem with newer Metallica. Bob Rock and themselves ruined all. I still consider 72 seasons the greatest since AJFA.
I agree, i find most of Kirks solos quite enjoyable.
@@ThreszheR Sure they're enjoyable, but lazy for the most part. We all know he can do better if he just puts in the effort. Some of the solos on here are pretty damn good, and you immediately notice that he actually took some time to compose it properly.
Metallica fans are relieved it's not total garbage, but the album doesn't have anything groundbreaking. It's Dad rock.
The global premiere was super sick! I had a great time and it was a really fun experience.
That last song man. One of my favourite songs Metallica has released in a long time.
The dual review was necessary lol
Maybe I had low expectations but I ended up liking this record a lot more than I thought I would. There are great moments on this record. I'd give it a 7/10
Daniel coming in with the major I-buy-everything-twice-backround flex
It's a grower for sure. Really like it after 3 listens. There's not a song I feel like I need to skip and I even find some of the mid-tempo songs stuck in my head so I can't complain. Blayne is way too harsh, but I agree they should take more chances, but maybe we don't want to admit this is the music they just want to play.
Agreed - and I also very much enjoy it.
I'll also add that James just said in an interview with Kerrang!: "...As selfish as it sounds... We write this stuff for ourselves. And we're the harshest critics of all. So, it makes sense that it sounds like _us"_
Also, he said: “Just put your heart out there, it can’t be wrong.”
Lastly, Kirk had a good comment too: "We *know* our fans care. We know our fans care _intensely._ And we also know our fans get... stuck in the minutia... (laughs) and in the details... and they can go down the rabbit hole... and that's their stuff. That's not our stuff. Our job is to go out there and make the best music we can, that _accurately_ reflects what our creative musical mindset is... at _that particular_ time."
At the end of the day - they always will have my respect for being authentic - both to themselves, and to us.
@@virvum_cypher _BINGO._
Metallica have their own record label because it's a smart business move. Simple as that.
@@A_Final_Hit yes, i agree. But there's more than one reason.

That Overkill record blows Metallica away.
Totally!
100% agree. There’s more musicianship in the first Overkill song than in the last 35 years of the crap they’ve been churning out
You sure damn right. I can’t stop listening to Scorched. 72 Seasons is boring and uninspired.
I also went to the global premier in theaters last week. It was pretty cool.

Boring album by the numbers
@@kristiankrastanov5995 what does by the numbers mean? Always heard that but never knew what it meant? 🤔 🤷🏽♂️
Have you ever considered that maybe they don't give a fuck about "being metal"? Wouldn't you get sick of doing the same thing for 40 years?
I honestly think they don't have it in them anymore.
Exodus where first
Excellent review, I can’t say anything bad about Metallica (apart from Lulu)
Thank you for speaking truth ..it's lackluster...I feel bad for Robert Trujillo...
Excellent fellas, since I’m closer to their age than yours … I’m WAY more in the Daniel camp but Blaine made me laugh as usual so you both get 4 / 5 skulls for this review 🤘🏽
Funny thing is neither of you were born when Ride the lightning was made.Hands down the best heavy metal bands of all time
No way! Can't wait to see the cameos in Heavy Metal Hitchhiker
My brother and I went to the global premiere. And yes we were both excited as well
To my ears it seems as if the band followed an algorithm instead instead of writing an album with any sort passion or grit. It's like four guys punching in for work. It's not bad but it's far from great.
The intro to Inamorata sounds like Sleep to me. Shoulda kept that vibe going
I’ll give the album another shot but the first listen did not impress me very much
Love the new Metallica album, and I'm not comparing it with any of their previous ones. 🔥🤘
Probably because you can't (St. Anger aside)
@@fredfredericks3496 Aye I can compare but choose not to laddie. And I like Escape too 👀🤘🔥
This is a record that will only be in my collection if it is a gift, if someone gives it to me, because I won't buy it even if I have extra money. From 1 to 5, I put a zero. I CAN'T TAKE JAMES' VOICE ANYMORE!
Here's the thing for me:
Metallica is a meat and potatoes band these days...meaning they're four guys playing and they SOUND like four guys playing.
A nice combo of perspectives on this review, super cool. Daniel's rip, "if your comedy isn't as relevant as George Carlin" was BRUTAL 😂
Blake Ibanez from power trip writes better riffs
72 Seasons is a 6/10 for me. The riffs just drag on and the songwriting isn't very memorable.
There's way better metal albums this year like Ne Obliviscaris, Enslaved, Insomnium, Obituary, Hellripper, or ...And Oceans.
Agreed. Bloated album and gets tiring.
I can’t get enough! I’ve been around since along time ago. Best thing in over thirty years, and growing!
I thought this fucker was way better than i expected it to be. Room of Mirrors being my favorite track by a mile.
13:11 - EXACTLY THIS! Every album doesn’t have to be 12 songs, every album doesn’t have to be 72 minutes.
I liked the riff midway into shadows follow, you must burn, bargedwire plus the hermonic melodic parts
Great album! It gets better with every listen! This album grooves! Lots of cool riffs and guitar harmonies! James sounds great, and I love his lyrics!
The same for me great
Same for me. I seem to like it more as I listen to it more.
LOVED this format with the bois! Sweet to have DeKay temper Blayne on big bands, ha!
You guys describing the unnecessarily long intros reminds me of any post 80's Iron Maiden album; especially the recent ones.
Same guitar sound on every song for three albums. Phoned-in solos. No producer pushing them to try anything new.
Question with Metallica album season 72 has it got a ticking sounds through the music(Songs).I not know if is the songs or my copy of the album?
Cool to see there are still some people who can criticize such bands, no matter how big and iconic they are. This album was an absolute chore and I don't think I'll ever go back to it again (not for a full listen at least)
There's just plenty of younger, more exciting and interesting bands out there to be blown away by for me to waste my time on this boring, thrash light bullshit. 5/10 or a 2.5/5 for me.
Kirk's solos always felt like they fit the song and I looked forward to them. He has some of my favorite solos ever. Now....not so much
When he decided to just wing it, rather than take the time to compose his solos, is when they stopped being memorable.
Well said . I want to love it to. I just can’t vibe it 🤷♂️
"it could be so much worse" is a terrible description dekay
Great quote on the marketing campaign though.
I enjoyed this album. It was fun, production was great too.
This one grew and grew for me. Love 72 seasons.
So entertaining to hear Bllayne's critique lol
After listening to this Album for 20 more times it still doesn‘t get boring. Great Album!
