I really dont understand why ppl say that she only write about her exes i mean welcome to new york is about moving to new york, the best day is for her mom, you need to calm down is abt lgbtq+ rights, this song is about her house, 22 is about living life like u r 22, mary's song is about her senior citizen neighbours, tied together with a smile is about eating disorder and there are so many other which are not about her relationships or exes
@@baanikaur165 people say that because when she was making country music, she actually made a lot of songs about ex boyfriends. But ever since she moved to pop music, she actually only has 3 songs about ex boyfriends. Style, out of the woods and getaway car (I dont know if all you had to do was stay is part) so people shouldn't say she only writes about ex boyfriends. Some people probably just still think she still writes many songs about them. They just judge without actually checking her discography well enough.
Same. This might sound weird, but that line makes me so proud of her because I think she has reached a point in her life in which she can do whatever she wants without having to hold back due to society's judgements.
Taylor: "There goes the loudest woman this town has ever seen." Also Taylor: "Was I loud? In my own house that I bought with the songs that I wrote about my own life?"
Better Mentality it’s understandable but also looks so beautiful. That’s the perfect combination for a beautiful poem and also that masses can consume. Unlike Shakespearean vocab which is beautiful but not for masses.
*the level of storytelling is extremely literature-esque & i can just feel goosebumps from the way she tells the tale of a woman and her seemingly carefree life in this holiday house with such a melancholic melody*
What's truly amazing is that this is the true story of Rebekah Harkness and her antics that people thought were so outlandish at the time and her home there in Rhode Island that Taylor now owns for her own 'outlandish' behavior! Awesome tribute to a cultured woman not unlike herself!❤
Feeling guilty as I slept on folklore when it was released. I was basically into pop music back then. Thanks to the Eras Tour that I have come to know about the perfection of this album. this song almost makes me cry every time because it makes me nostalgic for something i never even lived, and when taylor says "and then it was bought by me" wow
She's one of the most recognized artists if not the most recognized artist in this current time. With a huge label and an insane amount of money..I don't think she could make an indie song if she wanted to. This is just pop music?
@@jer4991 What is popular might have changed but pop music is pop music regardless of the subgenre. I would say with the number of views this got in one day and its intended audience it is pop music. Indie music is music the is not as well known and is distributed through an INDI-pendant label.
The fact that this song was inspired by Rebekah from her Rhode Island apartment and finding her folklore when the pandemic hits is brilliant in a way only Taylor could do it
I think I know why all of the song titles of this album are lowercase. It's because the album is like a book, each song is a chapter, and each line is a sentence. The titles are just words from within the sentences, so it makes sense that they are lowercase.
As I hear “a marvelous time ruining everything” it reminds me of my own journey of forgetting everything that had been taught me as a little girl and everything that they told me I was and building my own belief system now 🙏❤️
“the last great american dynasty” is about the story of Rebekah Harkness, a patron of the arts, and founder of the Rebekah Harkness Foundation. In 2013, she bought a Rhode island mansion once owned by Rebekah Harkness. The mansion is known as “Holiday House.” She makes subtle comparison between herself and Rebekah Harkness in the song. She likens her parties to the bevy of famous composers and dancer that once frequented Holiday house in Harkness' days. Also similar to Taylor Swift, Rebekah Harkness was often a target of harsh criticism from the tabloids after inherating a huge amount of money from her husband Bill
Fun fact -- Rebekah Harkness's legacy and philanthropy (that Taylor tells us went to the ballet) is still a part of the NYC dance scene today -- there's the Harkness Center for Dance (which includes a robust education program) and (a place that has helped myself and several of my fellow dancers) the Harkness Center for Dance Injuries. Funny that I've been listening to this song for some time and literally just made the connection lol

This is about Rebekah Harkness, who was married to the heir to the Standard Oil fortune. Taylor owns her former "Holiday House" in Rhodes Island. Taylor used to have her Fourth of July parties there. So many parallels between their lives. Thank you so much, Taylor, for telling her and your story so beautifully.
this is so great
👏for being able to google
Even I had the same thought. She used to host the parties. But idk😅
Thank you for that
That's actually where the background was filmed, from the view at that house, overlooking the Watch Hill lighthouse
i feel like this is a song she rediscovered in a book she lost ages ago, full of songs she wrote in her Fearless era (and i’m not complaining cos tbh i miss the familiarity and comfort her old songs gave me)
I know right? It sounded like her old country songs.
i love this new taylor cuz it reminds me of old taylor😊
The lyrics make me think of the Red Album. Starlight, Holy Ground and State of Grace kind of vibe.
@@sanne7432 yes thank you that's the vibe it's been bugging me through the entire album. My mind went blank and couldn't think of the right songs it reminded me of but your comment helped.
I wish I could retweet this
No they don't understand why her songwriting always impress us. Like how was she able to write and tell a whole story so vividly in less than 4 minutes.
When you are still haven't move on to "lover" and here comes "folklore"... Oh taylor.

People: “Taylor Swift only make music about her exes”
Taylor: * writes song about her house *
Right
I really dont understand why ppl say that she only write about her exes i mean welcome to new york is about moving to new york, the best day is for her mom, you need to calm down is abt lgbtq+ rights, this song is about her house, 22 is about living life like u r 22, mary's song is about her senior citizen neighbours, tied together with a smile is about eating disorder and there are so many other which are not about her relationships or exes
Baani Kaur that means they’re definitely wrong
YUP
@@baanikaur165 people say that because when she was making country music, she actually made a lot of songs about ex boyfriends. But ever since she moved to pop music, she actually only has 3 songs about ex boyfriends. Style, out of the woods and getaway car (I dont know if all you had to do was stay is part) so people shouldn't say she only writes about ex boyfriends. Some people probably just still think she still writes many songs about them. They just judge without actually checking her discography well enough.
"Free of women with madness, their men and bad habits", the most beautifully offensive lyric I've ever heard.
Why is my favorite line “and then it was bought by me” storytelling genius!!
That's my favorite part too
Same. This might sound weird, but that line makes me so proud of her because I think she has reached a point in her life in which she can do whatever she wants without having to hold back due to society's judgements.
Taylor: "There goes the loudest woman this town has ever seen."
Also Taylor: "Was I loud? In my own house that I bought with the songs that I wrote about my own life?"

Omg yes. Her beautiful descriptions and choice of diction
So true, her choice of words are amazing
Yep. Had to google a couple of words. 🤣
Taylor and Lana are great with vocabularies and poet
Better Mentality it’s understandable but also looks so beautiful. That’s the perfect combination for a beautiful poem and also that masses can consume. Unlike Shakespearean vocab which is beautiful but not for masses.

What's truly amazing is that this is the true story of Rebekah Harkness and her antics that people thought were so outlandish at the time and her home there in Rhode Island that Taylor now owns for her own 'outlandish' behavior! Awesome tribute to a cultured woman not unlike herself!❤

I thought it in the context of the song, ruining it for everyone else. Like not giving a f@*# and just being happy regardless of what people think.
I completely relate to this. Even nowadays, any woman who marches to the beat of her own drum is considered a bit 'mad' by society
How are y'all sleeping on this? Like, the melody, the instrumental, the _lyric change?_ Perfection.

She should be REALLY making Indie songs more often.
She's one of the most recognized artists if not the most recognized artist in this current time. With a huge label and an insane amount of money..I don't think she could make an indie song if she wanted to. This is just pop music?
@@camic7324 This isnt pop honestly. This is more alt/indie/folk music. Maybe a twinge of pop but I wouldnt call this pop.
@@jer4991 Pop music is POPular music there are few things more popular than Swift.
@@camic7324 The meaning of pop music has changed over the years, I am talking about heavy synths, inorganic instrumentals, etc.

“the last great american dynasty” is about the story of Rebekah Harkness, a patron of the arts, and founder of the Rebekah Harkness Foundation. In 2013, she bought a Rhode island mansion once owned by Rebekah Harkness. The mansion is known as “Holiday House.”
She makes subtle comparison between herself and Rebekah Harkness in the song. She likens her parties to the bevy of famous composers and dancer that once frequented Holiday house in Harkness' days. Also similar to Taylor Swift, Rebekah Harkness was often a target of harsh criticism from the tabloids after inherating a huge amount of money from her husband Bill

Funny that I've been listening to this song for some time and literally just made the connection lol
