I hope this vid stays preserved in time. You really had to work for your hobbies back then. Can't imagine modern people trying to start an engine for 45 minutes like I used to do and sticking with the hobby.
For me too! I used to watch my big brother flying them when I was knee high. I am actually rebuilding the wing on this now, it suffered severe "hangar rash" in a recent dumb shop incident.. translation: something fell on it. But it lives on.
It looks like a cool little engine I still have some old .049's around I keep for collector sake. . I converted a .15 size free flight to electric rc Its fun to fly Ifyou go to my uploads and punch in old school You find a flight video there. Free flights are a cool style I like to play with some times the polyhedral wings are classic.
Was the Pearl made in a kit this small or did they sell plans for this bird? More than likely you two scaled the plans down & built the Puny Pearls. HEY! That's the name for it! The Pearls had names according to their size, 1/2 A was Mini Pearl, A was Midi Pearl (I believe), the C-D was Maxi Pearl. I may be missing one, I believe there may have been seperate C and D birds, the D being bigger than the C and very, very big. Very cool Pearl! Take time to get engine running before launch, was rich.
Sure, sounds like fun. But you'd have to go micro micro on everything, and fatten up the fuselage a bit. A pair of HS-35's, micro 2.4 Rx, and 120mAh battery perhaps. I've been an .010 fan since I can remember, and have a small collection of them, but I am guilty of never flying one RC yet! Only free flight, which is not a bad thing. If you hang out on RC Universe, go to the 1/2A airplanes forum, and find the thread called "010 fun and games" for some examples of .010 powered RC models.
No, they're not in production anymore. They were made by Cox, and are a bit of a collector's item now. I grabbed some when they started drying up. 3" prop, runs at about 27,500 rpm on 25% nitro glow fuel. The model is one of a series of classif free flights scaled down to .010 size for fun by various folks.
There sure is, I love 'em. I made the fuel tank just big enough to start it and allow 15-20 seconds of engine run. Peaked out it climbs smartly. The launch here was terrible, I was grabbing the camera and hurrying before the fuel ran out, but it is very stable and settled into a right spiral immedialely.

Beautiful little aircraft and the Cox 010 is superb engineering. Very nostalgic to watch thanks👍

What a beautiful little screamer!
I watch this video every couple months. I love everything about it! great video and great feeling it gives to the hobby.
Neat! There's just something special about those little TD .010s.
Yeah I have a soft spot for them, collected about 6 over the years.
That is a cool plane Perfect for micro rc conversion

Да уж
i saw plans for one on eBay recently
I think it might have been higher than my crude guess of 200 feet. Worked out to about a 15s engine run.
do you know where i could get plans for building this plain, your help is greatly appreciated.
that model you have there is a very neat design, could you possibely build me one, i would really appreciate it.
