Yoko Shimomura try not to take one of the great Nobuo Uematsu himself's bangers and somehow find a way to make it so much even more of a banger that now Nobuo Uematsu's original banger is so much even more of a banger which was thought to be impossible until this moment: That's like asking her to not find a way to make Dancing Mad 500 X better she'll just quote en quote "fail" the challenge the very frame you start playing the music, Heck why not get her to re-do One Winged Angel in Mario RPG 3 while we're at it, we know she's going to make the original unlistenable by comparison when she's done I mean that's basically what she did here with Final Fantasy 4 Battle 2 If Super Mario RPG goes from the very first Mario RPG to one of many Mario RPG series' alongside the like, two or three or four others then uh, making this a tradition to make Uematsu's work even better for one specific super boss in Square's take on the Mario Role Playing Game would be quite the *need* to happen

The way they handled Culex was my favorite thing in the remake. From keeping the 2D sprite, the remixed music, the rematch and even his new quotes. Job well done!
I love how when you meet Culex, he still is in his 2d sprite and becomes jealous towards your “3-dimensional form”. The battle theme even stays the original. It really outlines just how out of place Culex is in Mario’s world. Then, after beating the main story and all of the extremely hard post game bosses, Culex finally accepts how time has passed and fights you in an even more powerful form. It makes this battle theme feel earned. Also 13-year-old me beat him on the first try without the super suit. Three word advice: Peach. Is. OP.
I care way too much about battle themes. They're kind of my passion, so to say. Naturally, that means that I take boss themes very seriously... but this one right here... I think this is straight up the best boss theme I have ever heard. It's actually the perfect boss theme. I cannot put into words how much I love this

It's funny. If I had a nickel for every time a Super Mario Bros RPG game had the best-ever cover of the FF4 battle music, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's strange that it happened twice, innit?
I keep forgetting Mario Sports Mix exists. Kinda sad, honestly. Just astonishes me that these insane godlike beings from FF get destroyed by the wackiest gaming icons ever. Once with a group of 5, two of which use a hammer and a frying pan, and twice with sport equipment.
Wouldn‘t surprise me if this was a scrapped Remix for Kingdom Hearts that was repurposed for this Remake. Also goddamn does this go hard! Really need to play FF4 one day
Not a bad remake of ff4's boss battle theme. But a missed opportunity to ask square enix to use ff14's version from the endwalker expansion 🤣 .... Tho understandable that it would be out of place if it was used instead lol
Yeah, I can attest to it. Same is true for any Kingdom Hearts secret bosses. The final boss is piss easy, but when you get to the secret baddies... Guaranteed a controller gets broken, you lose your sanity or you somehow win in one try.
