    the submarine was one of three that broke away from a tug in a storm when being towed away for scrapping. The other two went ashore on the other side of damhead creek and were cut apart down to the keels which are lying side by side and can be seen at low tide.
    Efforts to dismantle the remaining sub were hindered by its position on the saltings. We used to be able to go to it by dinghy and walk along the pressure casing to where the bow had been cut off. The engines of the three subs had already been removed for use as generators at the cement works upriver before the hulks were sold for scrap.

    I worked at Berry Wiggins for a few years, first job after leaving school in 1971. A couple of us walked to the end of the jetty one lunch break, I seem to remember at one point the deck boards changed direction.

    Ive been there many times, with many adventutes over the years.
    Grain is a fascinating place.
    Did you walk down to the power station outlet?
    Theres another fort down there.
    Also...someone told me that there are many tunnels under Grain Coastal Park.
    If you walk WEST from the car park, instead of east into the medway, the first beach past the dragons teeth has the remains of the de-guessing cable under the sand which stretched across the thames to the little military museum near the cafe on Canvey.

    • @BeyondthePoint

    The dragon's teeth are good to prevent coastal erosion. Removing them isn't worth it, as they benefit the shore & add history.

    Great video guys, I really enjoyed the tour around the grain tower, you're a braver man than I to wade into that basement!
    Absolutely blown away to find out about that U-Boat wreck 🤯
    I know it's not an easy task but wondered if Sealand was on your list?
    Anyway thanks for a great vid!

    • @BeyondthePoint
      @BeyondthePoint  Год назад

      Thanks!! Sealand is certainly an interesting place but I think without express permission it would be difficult. Would love to see more of the seaforts even from the water though. Check out our video on Red Sands Seaforts :)

      @@BeyondthePoint I realise that, i'm just having you on. My Dad worked at Grain Power Station, and my Uncle at Kingsnorth. I miss the smell of the Medway, sounds weird I know. Great to see all this again, we have no history here in New Zealand, sure it's beautiful, but very boring on the human history front. Thanks for the vid.
