Dennis Stratton is really underrated guitar player. And part of Iron Maiden history that will never be forgotten.
Yeah yeah everyone is forgotten eventually
No he never wanna be a part of Iron maiden
What about his singing? He did a pretty good job here!
@@eamonahern7495 agreed!
@@aaronhockey8803 You dumbass kid,
Who played guitar on the first self titled album then?
The world's a much cooler place now with heavy metal granddads in it.
I love old man power!
We should all stay young.
That is world record in bass height.
Prove it
Former record holder was Phil Lynott and he made his record in 1983 on Thunder and Lightning tour.
@@pahvilaatikko9587 That's all well and good but can you prove that this guy broke the world record?
@@Your2TiminEx Yes
You've never seen Level 42.
I’ve watched this performance probably twenty times over the last couple of years and am still totally blown away by it.. Dennis sounds phenomenal doing the vocals.. His playing has always been top notch.. Dave Edwards can flat out jam. He plays Dave Murray’s part as well as Murray does and that’s a fact. Dennis got a raw deal back in the day.. the way he was sacked and all by Maiden. He was a HUGE part of that first album, which remains my favorite to this day. I sure hope if and when Iron Maiden decides to pack it in, they invite Dennis to be a part of the celebration. He was instrumental in helping the band form their signature sound. He deserves to be recognized, respected, and remembered for his vital contributions.
Sound like something Dennis Stratton would say
Thats a bit much bro
But yeah he was pretty important to the sound of that first album, wish they wouldve kept him a bit longer for killers,
The guy playing Murray's parts did a great job. And I had no idea Dennis could sing so well. I enjoyed this.
He can sing! Check out the stuff he did with Paul, The Real Iron Men, I think they called it.
Danny DeVito
Funny thing is Stratton made Phantom what it is. He recording a ton of harmony backing tracks and then Ron SMALL WOOD said it sounded too much like Queen. wtf. Dennis Stratton is core Iron Maiden
The Danny devito guy is actually dave Edwards. Him and Dennis have been playing together since the late sixties early seventies .i used to watch these guys smash it every Sunday night at the bridge house pub Canning Town . They are called RDB. Which means Remus Down Boulevard. Check out their other videos on tube top blokes
Martin Johnson on drums legend in he's own making
Saw Mr Stratton with Maiden in 1980 opening for Kiss. Changed my live.
So did I.. it was amazing.
That would have been an awesome concert! Lucky you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@keyringer I went there as a Kiss fan and came home being a Metalhead! Real Magic! =D
@@wahnfriedvonmannteufel1574 That's really cool!!!!!!!
@@wahnfriedvonmannteufel1574 I love both bands!
i think the bassist needs to hold his bass higher
😂
yep, straight in the face would be better
Lmao
Real rocker
He's no Steve Harris that's for sure lol
Wow I was not expecting to hear such great vocals from Stratton. Great guitar playing, even better singing.
Stratton sounds closer to Dianno than Dianno does nowadays. Kick ass!
he wrote the song what do you expect lol
HellWarz Newz huh? Steve Harris wrote it.
Exactly, what i thought. Di'anno couldn't keep his voice sadly & unfortunately.
doublestrokeroll steve harris wrote the lyrics not the guitar riffs ya ignorant fuck
A little unclear and quieter. Maybe it's the PA.
This video made me track down Dennis and Dave and go to Romford in the middle of the pandemic, to sit in a covered car park and hear them play. It was the only gig of 2020 , they played Phantom of the Opera and it was just amazing after having been locked up at home for so long.
The early Maiden stuff is absolutely killer
I am so glad and honored to see Maiden in the early eighties at the Long Beach Arena, I was already drumming when I first saw Clive Burr, but when I first saw him perform I was taken back by his energy, R.I.P Clive Burr 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Well I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't have high hopes for that but I've been proved massively wrong! Very good indeed!
That's what I thought too. :)
Same here, thought it was just gonna be some poor pub rock version......
But holy shit batman they fkin rocked the hell outta that BIG TIME!!!
Dennis Stratton wouldn't go out and do it if it was going to be crap..
Better than some maiden versions
One of the best versions of ‘Phantom’ I’ve ever heard
Yeah, totally agree with you.🤩🙌
I absolutely love this, raw how it should be, amazing!!!
Stratton's solo at 7:49 simply magic
You can hear his sound which is missing when Maiden plays it now. I would have never picked up on that but as soon as he played I heard "it". I love hearing Phantom at the shows and sounds amazing, one of my favorites. But hearing Dennis play it here was a treat, thanks!
I agree. He has the exact tone that is on Iron Maiden.
Dennis was and will always be there best guitarist. Plain and fucking simple. He blows the doors off Adrian and Dave!
Christopher Pooler
Hahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaa alright mate, I also love bit of nostalgia but Dave and Adrian are where they are for a reason. Take nothing away from Dennis, who I know to be a lovely lovely guy and a talented guitarist.
@@christopherpooler5398 Let's not say things we can't take back.
@@irondarwin2483 Too late...
I would have loved to be at this show! Drinking beers and seeing some musicians who you can tell are having a blast.
This was very good. If I went to a club, and these guys played old Maiden songs for an hour, that would be a brilliant night.
That was amazing. Listened to a lot of old maiden, bootlegs of live shows, etc and you guys nailed it man. Just wow
Wouldn't it be great to see Maiden one more time to perform a few songs with Stratton and Di'Anno.
Di'anno can't sing anymore though
They didn't have the wheelchair ramps that night
Came for a laugh but ended up in awe.... great to hear Stratton, distinctive siund and a great voice!!🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Respect, I don't think I've ever heard Maiden play this song that good.
hahaha
9:27 loved this drum fill, guitar work, and vocal ending
Good music doesn‘t need big PAs and huge stages. Just dedication and musicianship 👍
Last year, during the pandemic, before the second lockdown, me and my friend went all the way to Essex to see Dennis and Dave play in a pub car park, it was the only gig of 2020 , but it was excellent to hear live music again and amazing to hear Phantom of the Opera live 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Saw Dennis play this recently at The Crown in Romford, he's an amazing guitar player.
Legends....
Dennis really nails his own solo, even better than the original album version.
Only ran into this now and thoroughly enjoyed it! Rock on Mr. Stratton and company!!!!
I enjoyed this, Stratton rocks!
This is amazing. Plain and simple. What a great version. Stratton still rocks like a boss and the rest of these musicians killed it aswell. Damn!!
Your never too old to Rock N Roll!! Right on dudes👍
Stratton has a great voice!
AWESOME !!!! LOVE IT !!! Good Job !!!! Guy's (Houston Tx) Thanks...
"Only the good die young", and you live forever cause you all got that immortal soul of good rock !qué berraquera! .. Thank you
Any minute now the roof is coming off that joint! Superb work gentlemen
Singing and playing phantom of the opera at the same time !
Dennis + Adrian is my fantasy duo :D
ilk albüm öncesi murray kankası adrian ı gruba davet eder ama adrian kendi grubuyla "yoğun" olduğu için red cevabı verir. dennis i bulurlar gruba. ilk albüm çıkar konserler verilir tabir i caizse grup infilak eder. dave in kankası "müsait" olur dennis i resmen kovarlar.
Why ? Dave and Dennis were ace .Dave and Adrian for the long haul
I love this version of that wonderfull song.
I didn't realize Dennis had a good voice. Voice is vicious with this one!
Didn’t know Ian McShane played in a maiden cover band, props to him.
With Danny Devito on rhythm guitar
Really cool to see Stratton performing.Really love Iron Maiden first album!
dennis stratton rips! now i can tell who does what in the original.he's got a distinct style!
heh it's always been dave murrey and "who/what was that?"
some solos were Dave Murray , Some solos were Dennis Stratton, they play differently, and from this upload, you can see/hear Dennis Stratton eastern/baroque style.
dennis sounds amazing here
Dennis Stratton first guitarist Iron Maiden.
Great..Amazing..!!
🎸🤘🤘👍👍
Good to see Dennis playing. I am a huge fan of the first Maiden album.
This is what seasoned professional musicians sound like!
🤘😆🤘
Seasoned old piss heads
HOLY SHIT !!! AWESOME...
The older a bassist gets the higher his guitar goes.
Keith Bell 😂😂😂
That thing is Einswistle high
The bass is at normal height the guy is shrinking. By 2041 the bass will appear to be floating in mid air.
He has the “slapping the bass” thing going on.🤘🏼
This was 10 years ago…I think he plucks the strings with his teeth now 😂
The bass player plays it as a mariachi guitar player! xD
It's the entire opposite of Steve Harris lol
Violin
lol
He's good though.
He's Epic!
Blimey - they absolutely killed it, and Stratton is a guitar beast!!
My favorite Maiden cover. Great job guys!
This is amazing, great job fellas, you all still got it
Wow, absolutely fantastic. 👍👍 ya see, that's rock n roll. PERFECT!!
Stratton gave Iron Maiden an identity, Smith made perfect!
WOW that was so totally awesome I watched it twice, added to favourites and shared on Twitter, brings back fond memories of sawdust on the floor and drinking too much in a certain well known pub.
Thank you for sharing - they are great entertainers and awesome musicians too :-)
That short dude was killing it him and dennis were on point.
Agreed mate
Dave Edwards of RDB check out his videos
A group of great players having a great time! That's a pretty cool stage too!
One of greatest Maiden song
🤘🏻
That was awesome thank you
When you get to the gig and realize you packed the camera strap instead of your bass strap.
Haha, Laurie gets so much stick for holding his bass the way his does, but your cheeky comment actually made me 'laugh out loud' :-)
@@punkrocksal He is damn good, and yeah, play any way your comfortable, who cares what others think and all that. it just looks like a country and western player sitting in with a metal band. Great performance by the way! My favorite maiden song, Loved it👍🎸
great performance!! amazing solos!! Greatings from Brazil
Metal is not a lifestyle it’s a way of life. There is no age limit, there is no stigma, it’s metal...... we live, love and breathe it......... Yannick, Dave and Adrian along with the rest of the crew would have been in the front row rocking it out as I was in RUclips in Australia. Love the performance and keep it up 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘👊👊👊
Dennis Stratton the great.
Loads of fun ,!! Looks like a good gig
ROCKERS AVIN FUN. Saw Maiden with Dennis and his 3 Muskateers white shirt at Reading. Memories. Feel the power and listen to classy musicians, in their prime, play and enjoy it at the same time. CLASSIC. Also, while watching this, I just had a vision of Clive on drums. CLIVE BURR. YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN.
Absolutely brilliant! Well done lads!
This is fricken Awesome !!! So glad i found this ,, Rock On GENTS !!
Amazing, they absolutely killed it!!
Still got it ! great to see him performing , love it !
Vocals sound great along with the rest. Wasn't expecting the vocals to hold but pleasant suprise👍
Nice! Glad he is still having fun and playing intimate shows.
To my surprise this is close to the essense of the original version. Pretty damn good.
damn it Dennis very well done to you and the lads superb, extremely talented and professional
.. And that's just GREAT!!! thanks for all those years!
Pleasantly surprised! Nice job!!! \m/
That was SO WOW!!! Loved it!!!
Damn it Mr. Sratton you are simply amazing my friend.
Great job. You just reignited my head banging mode.
I'll send the band my Dr. & chiropractor bills🤟
That made me chuckle
Я просто счастлив слышать такую игру Дэнниса!
Sounds great. Awesome vocals!
btw, GREAT line up, sounds REALLY GOOD ! Great job !
This blew me away….really great version of this
Very good play and great vocal. The vocalist sings very good while playing guitar, and that's not easy to do in such a song like this.
Well, he was in the band when Harris wrote this. He should know the song pretty good.
dennis and dave are still great used to see RDB back in the 70s at the Bridge House canning town.fantastic band
Great Vocals and Harmony here. ..... Cool stuff ! !
Excellent - god bless Dennis Stratton, the original Iron Man - I remember Gary Bushell who wrote the "running free" biography book, used to joking a lot with Dennis' age, because he was the oldest on the band at the time.
They sound great 👍
Stratton has a better voice than the the modern days Di'Anno !!
What a great job ....
not bad, with good harmonies, guitar playing, and fun all round. Up the Irons
You guys kicked it! Well done ✌️👍🎸❤️
Amazing performance!!!
That was brilliant 🤘
such a great performance.. !!!!
Great Dennis. Great guitarist, and he sings how Paul Di Anno should sing today. Love him 🤘
dennis have an awesome voice too
Brilliant lads! Cheers!
I used to watch these guys play every Friday in the Albert in plaistow…great times.
Awesome, congrats from Brazil
