The step-by-step video you provided was excellent! I'm a 57-year-old woman who hasn't changed the oil for my car in over 30 years. But since I can't drive the zero turn to an oil change place, I had to do this on my own. Your step-by-step video made it easy and gave me confidence. My ZT2 is only two and a half years old but with only 34 hours on it. This is the first oil change. I wasn't going to let it go to 100 hours because that would take three more years. Before this mower, I'd used electric mowers and I was concerned I wouldn't be able to keep up with this one. Now I know I can. Thank you!
Being paying top dollars for service mine (Z71) for 2 years in a row. Now I'm gonna do it on my own. Thanks for the video, brother! Good bless you too!
Bought a ZT1 50 (Kawasaki FR691V) last April, 2022.. so im ready to give first oil change etc. Your video was super helpful! Thanks, from Saskatchewan Canada!
Thanks man. I got mine all done. Used a pipe wrench to hold the hose in place, 3/8 impact to take it off (barely broke it free). First time using that style of filter wrench thats all I had as well, sucks but it works. Got it all done. I pulled the hose back above the frame, caught the plug as it loosed and popped it back thru before removing. Mine has the kholer 7000 series 24hp, the air filter is half the size of yours and after 7 hours it is filthy. Dissapointed in kholer for that one.
Hi Jim; Just want to give a BIG Thank You!! I’ve watched your Cub Cadet videos and what I love about your videos is the thoroughness in which you present your camera views, lighting, the audio content presentation, both on safety and the work itself. All done in good time! You are methodical in every detail!! It’s so much appreciated Jim!! Just a great, great help!!! Thank you and God bless you! I am very happy to be subscribed to your channel!!
Thank you so Jim thank you so much. We just bought the Cub Cadet Ultima and we love it. We'll keep in touch. Thanks again. Tom an Donna Chevalier. (from South Carolina)
This is me leaving a comment because you asked. Heaven on earth, Landscaping, would like to just thank you for your time and your detailed information. I am going to go do this on my ZT1 42 inch, right now. I will send an update on once done, to allow others to know , how successful I was. I wish you the best and thank you again.
Thanks all the way from Australia. My mower has just done 50 hours and the selling agent can’t service it for 2 months, so I’ll do it myself. Video was very helpful - I just need to convert everything to metric!
Thank you for the fantastic video! I’m about to pick up a new 42” zt1. When do you the initial oil change for break in? My dealer may cover it but I’m just curious. Any other tip/tricks?
Your video was helpful. However I cannot undo the plug to change the oil. It requires a 3/4 and 1/2 '' wrench but the Cub Cadet Manufacturer put lock-tight on the plug. Won't budge. Any suggestions?
Glad to see an informative video that does not try to capture viewers with wild music and graphics. The information given was precise and informative without all the extra trash many producers use. Great job!
@@DIYJIM Man you are a great neighbor! Just finished my oil dump at 14 hours, used 10w40 as I'm in the northeast and summers can get pretty hot here and I have no intentions on using this in the middle of the winter (stored in garage). Zerked the front wheels and blew off the intake while I was waiting. Have a great weekend!
Very good video! How often should I change the oil ? Also I can’t find my manual so what oil filter should I use ? I have the same miter you do but mine is the ZT1 . Thanks
If you’re mowing 1/2 to 1 acre once a year should be good. Check this video out and everything should be in the description. ruclips.net/video/aCwcH3ZfyWg/видео.htmlsi=_T4FNEELeQ9NEjbG
@@DIYJIM so Cub has a specific fluid they use? I read elsewhere people were using 5w-50 motor oil, synthetic Mobil 1 if I remember correctly. Thanks for looking up the intervals, much appreciated.
My husband can’t get the oil drain plug off. He is turning it to the left like you have shown. He’s using a wrench to hold it and another to unscrew the plug. He puts his entire weight on it (160lbs) and it’s starting to bend the wrench. He’s afraid it will snap. What is he doing wrong?
My ZT1 50" is less than a year old and I cannot get the oil plug off to drain and replace the oil. It is STUCK. Three people have tried to budge it so far. It seems welded together! Any suggestions? Using 3/4 and 7/16" wrenches and went to heavier adjustable wrenches and still doesn't budge.
If your mower is only a year old, it should still be under warranty. I would take it to a shop and have them take care of loosing the plug. I have the same mower as you, had a problem with it cutting off. Warranty covered the repairs.
Mine was too. It appears to have some loc-tite applied as it was far more difficult to remove than expected. We got there in the end with a couple of extensions.
The drain plug on mine is NOT coming off. I don't know what they used to install it -- maybe a welder, or the Hulk with an air wrench. But I'm done trying. I suppose I'll cut the hose just above the non-removable plug assembly and use hose clamps and a plug of my own. Seriously, Cub Cadet, was using eleven hundred million foot-pounds of torque on that bolt necessary?
@@DIYJIM Thanks! Love your videos. I tried heating the assembly with a torch in hopes of liquifying the thread lock sealant. That didn't work either. I struggled for a while with wrenches trying to free it, then just cut the hose about 4 inches below the bottom end. I took the severed end to the hardware store. Walked out with less than 15 bucks in parts (copper fitting with hose end and 3/8 inched threaded end, a cap to fit, and two 5/8 inch hose clamps). Replaced the unturnable drain end and it works perfectly, no leaks, no hours spent trying to loosen the un-looseable. I love my ZT-1 though! Great mower with a single (annoying) flaw.

Thanks for the video. Do you ever change the transmission fluid in this? And if so, what type of fluid do you use?
I looked this up for you. It looks like first 50 hours then every 100 hours. I would stop at a local dealer for the transmission fluid.
@@DIYJIM so Cub has a specific fluid they use? I read elsewhere people were using 5w-50 motor oil, synthetic Mobil 1 if I remember correctly. Thanks for looking up the intervals, much appreciated.
May be a dumb question, but what do you typically do with your used oil after draining?
Some gets sprayed on my shed or some auto part stores will take it. Thanks for watching
