- I got to see the three that essentially put PTX together for the Sing Off in some pre fame videos. I loved how awesome they were even before any competitions or grammy awards. They love singing and it shows.
You can certainly still hear this in their singing now. It is amazing that they were only 18 or 19 years old.
They definitely look young, but I still have to remind myself that these are high school kids. And it's a shame their "Telephone" didn't win the radio contest, but they did decide to post it on RUclips...
Their internal metronomes are incredible.
I've never seen these, they were in sync even then. Thank you for showing them.
You need to check out their "Frozen" Medley with Mitch, Scott and Kirstin!! I think it's part of Superfruit! Your daughter should really like it!!

Btw, I like to call Pentatonix Scott's baby because I'm 95% sure that it was Scott that suggested they audition for The Sing Off and got everyone together (with some help), which led to the creation of PTX. And I think that's really cool because they were clearly meant for this 😍
The fact that the three of them were actually able to find each other at such an early age...then to find Avi and Kevin also at just the right time...if that doesn't make you believe in a higher intelligence in this universe, I don't know what will.
They are SO ADORABLE!!!😊💗 I don't think they knew what the future held for them...I've seen pics of Mitch and Kirstie together when they were about 12 yrs old and a pic of Scott and Mitch when they were 10 and met in the same play Charlie and the Chocolate factory...There are also pics of Scott and Kirstie when they met at 14 yrs old and became best friends...So they have had SUCH A LONG FRIENDSHIP! So when they say that they grew up together ...They are not lying😊👍
Grateful for the 2-for...but come on...they were born to do this. And doing those arrangements at that age. Man.

Yay! Now someone that is reacting to Pentatonix knows how far back The Trio goes! It started earlier, Mitch and Scott met in community theatre when Mitch was 10. Mitch and Kirstin have been friends since infancy. Mitch introduced Scott and Kirstin to each other in High School when Scott started attending the same school Mitch and Kirstin attended. But Scott and Mitch did a lot of duets and solos in competitions. It was really interesting and I know they lived for music.. that's why winning that show had so much meaning to those three. Trying out for the Sing Off was Ben Brams' idea (a friend of Scott's in college). He said their Trio had a good sound and they should audition.. but added they needed a bass and beat boxer. Scott called Mitch and asked if he'd audition with him and Mitch was for it! Kirstin, who was away at college, was up for it too! Scott and Ben Bram were who brought Avi (Ben knew of him) and Scott found Kevin on RUclips. Scott calls them.. total stranger, and makes his pitch... and somehow both Kevin and Avi knew who they were because they'd seen the RUclips video they had up! 😂 It had to be meant to be.
Thank you for sharing their beginnings with us! most are aware. but reactors rarely watch the awards episode of the Sing-Off, let alone see how and who it all started with. 😊
Fun fact, during the audition of the sing off, Avi and Kevin improvise Firework with their trio version because Pentatonix didn’t prepare enough songs

Yeah, I have seen them referred to as 'Fetus Pentatonix'. If you see some Pentaholics just say 'The Trio' you now know that's when we are referring to just Scott, Mitch and Kirstie and we're usings their old pre Meat & Potatoes name.
Love this reaction! Superfruit has a video called Reacting to Old Performances that's really fun. They go way back to their childhoods and up through high school. Another video you might like to watch on your own time (it's about an hour long) is the PentaParents panel from Pentacon '16. Scott's parents, Mitch's dad and Kirstie's mom were all there and Avi's parents & Kevin's parents and sister sent video messages. It gives some insight into their backgrounds as performers and seeing the love and support they all have from their families says a lot about how they've remained so humble and down to earth through all their success. Thanks for the videos, I really enjoy them!

I think Scott was the age 10 on a TV show and he sang with a band when he was age 14!! I'm not sure of the age!! I know they met at age 10 in theater singing and acting!!!
In the Telephone vid, Scott & Kirstie are HS seniors, and Mitch is a junior. It was a little over a year before they auditioned for The Sing Off. In the Sweet Dreams vid, Mitch does some beatboxing.
There are several more even earlier vids out there of Mitch & Kirstie singing together in high school as well as Scott & Mitch together. There is a Superfruit vid called "Reacting to Old Performances" and has clips of teen Mitch and teen/child Scott singing in school productions or home movies. One of the clips is of them singing together (Bad Romance by Lady Gaga) in a bookstore which happened a few months before the Telephone video.
One video that is NOT in that compilation, but IS on youtube (thanks to his dad) is 12 yr old pre-pubescent Scott on Star Search (in the Junior Vocalist category). This was when they rebooted Star Search in the early 00's, with Arsenio Hall as the host. Years later Arsenio's latenight show would also be rebooted and in 2013 Pentatonix performed "Little Drummer Boy" on his latenight show.

Linked is a video of the Trio singing "Telephone" with Kevin and Avi. It's 2012 right after the "Sing Off" on their first tour! It's pretty cool to compare this version of "Telephone" with that one. It's magic! Fun fact - they mention that this was one of the songs they performed when they auditioned for the "Sing Off." No wonder they got picked!

Thanks for reacting to these. I’d heard the thumbnail of this version of Telephone, but not the whole song , and not Firework at all. They really were young. And so good already.
For the next reaction I suggest their cover of Rather Be or Say Something maybe telephone that they perform now with avi and Kevin on tour
Pentatonix is my favorite group! I have nearly all their songs and have seen them live in concert every year for the last 5 years. Thank you for posting this video. I love to see your journey reacting to all (eventually) of Pentatonix's videos!

Your reaction was.... awesome! I liked the Pentatonix Fetus performance of Telephone they did at a choir concert. While the choir was reconfiguring in the background, the Trio came out and performed Telephone. They brought the house down.
Now watch one of the live Telephone PTX versions, with Avi and Kevin, from a year or two ago. I loved the one they performed for the Grammy Connect, but I can't find the full good version of that anymore, sadly.

My favorite "fetal" video is Scott sing "Let me Leave" at what looks like maybe a talent show in high school. If I had been in that audience I would've been awe struck at the talent of teenage Scott. Destined to be great.

You should check out Superfruit‘s video Reacting to old performances. They have some gems in that video! Also Scott’s dad has a youtube channel Rick Hoying where he has posted old Scott performances, there’s even a video of him singing at age 4!!

Here I am, 1-2/3 years after you posted this, watching you watch a PTX Trio video I never saw before today. (I mean "Firework," of course; I would totally have to turn in my Pentaholic credentials if I hadn't seen "Telephone.") I enjoyed your reaction, especially in light of the fact that you were pretty new to Pentatonix at this time (pre-PentaCon2k18). Have you ever seen/reacted to the other early "Telephone" video, when they performed it at their high school choir concert?
