- One of the more unusual features at the Central Midlands Vintage Stationary Engine Society Open Day over the August Bank Holiday weekend
was a display of 30's and 50's Power Rammers and a Jack Hammer dating back to the 1920's.
Live demonstratons of these once common tools were given by a very friendly and informative gentleman. Another video of the man and his machines can be seen at • Jack Hammer - Warsop B...
Anyone here from the big guy who messed up?
Yeees mee! He hurt his foot a bit 😂
Yeeeeup
Love that we all thought to see it really operate
Dawg lol
Yes sir
I see one of these operates by an Irish road worker when I was a kid in the late 70’s early 80’s. Absolutely fascinating and still fascinates me today. Pure genius engineering..... really happy there are videos available of such equipment
Crazy how these machine were being engineered 100 years ago and with all the knowledge we have available today I probably don’t know half as much as the innovators did then.
I saw an instruction book on that thing once. It warns against one hand on the top as you lose control of the movement.
I love the clickity clackness of this tool. It’s like something out of the game fall out or something
I worked for an Irish contractor in the '70s and made around 6 working units from a host of spare parts lying around the workshop. Happy days.
How many thumps to the gallon?!
How did I get here
Same, I don't know how I'm watching a power hammer at 9 in the morning.
This looks like a contraption you would see in an old cartoon like Tom and Jerry Lol
Good work - interesting video.
is the main soil compression when it takes off or lands? lol!
Takes off for sure
Yes
Why does my fallout mind kicks in and finally i can think that a 'PowerFist' could be made out of this XD
I used to have one of these when I was sett laying at the National Tramway Museum. Now that I work as a volunteer at Heaton Park Tramway in Manchester, do you know where I could get hold of one? I never felt in danger of having my toes tamped - the main risk seemed to be of it falling over onto you if the edge of the foot landed on a rock.
hi, I have one I would sell if you are still interested
+DingbatToastI'm sorely tempted, but I don't really have a use for one these days, sadly. Many thanks for letting me know though.
+David Holt ok. Thanks for replying :)
What type do you have for sale?
Hi does anybody know where I can get a copy of the manual for the one made in the 1950s the help would be appreciated.
Up ur ass to the left buddy
i worked at warsop power tools building these in the seventies.the firm was in redhill in surrey, the name "benjo"was ben johnson who invented them! 1000cc running on a 2 stroke mix.packed 9000lbs a square inch!!be careful with it!!lol
Where abouts was Warsop Power Tools, I have seen Horley and Salfords mentioned?
Just brought a Benjo today but will need help with it has it hasn't been used for a long time,do you know of anyone that can help please
I feel bad for his hearing now after years of this with no protection takes a toll. I know because I have tinnitus from when I worked in NASCAR for about 10 years and only had hearing protection when we had a radio headset on.
Wouldn’t you use a vibrating roller for packing dirt in a decent size plot like the one cut out here?
Do you mean a plate compactor? The machine in the video is old, nobody uses it anymore.
Yeah. NOW you would. Not in the 50s when it wasn’t available
I’d need a football helmet for that.
Just got a Benjo, might need some help to get it working. What should I be aware of before trying to get it going?
Hi turboslag I have just brought a Benji needs some work doing to it could you let me know if you get yours going,I will need some help with mine .
What is the point in this ? What is this tool used for I’m genuinely asking bc I see no point in it
The first tool is used to compact soil and the other ones are Jack hammers
Also known as a jumping Jack
