@@waynecuff3140 Wicked Gamer reviewed that a couple of weeks ago. I suspect the board inbetween the trackball converts the analogue inputs to d-pad, so it's not completely authentic analogue input to the emulator. Doing this, however makes it far more compatible with many games. - Quite a good idea on design tbh.
Great video- thanks. I recently bought the latest Pandora 10th anniversary JAMMA box, that states 'trackball' in its manual for USB connection. I can confirm that it does NOT work with a trackball i.e. cursor moves with the trackball, but game (e.g. Arkanoid) does not work. The trackball on my cab does work with Pandora DX, so that is definitely the Pandora to get for trackball games.
They actually have a separate board to use trackballs, but I assume it makes the analogue input turn into digital. This'll give us a poor input Vs real analogue, and explain why it's working in megadrive games and shooters like 1943. Unfortunately they don't sell the boards separately and require you to pay for the whole bartop with all the bells and whistles, so we've not yet tested this option. Saying that. We have a decent solution. We'll show it in a new review and have a video out before next week (hold onto your butt!)
Can you check Arkanoid, and other block breaker type games? they should be trackball compatible. Those are the kinds of games I'd most like to play with a Pandora's Box DX. They're useless with a digital joystick.
Great video, thanks. I have a New Astro City and I’d like to buy a Pandora DX too. Few questions : is it pixel perfect on an Astro City ? Do you plug it direct with the Jamma (5 and 6 button?) or in VGA (I have a JammaSD in my NAC). Thanks for the responses.
Unfortunately, no- we haven't tested a Spinner- We don't have one, but can imagine it wouldn't be too different from the arcade trackball we've had on earlier.
I've used a USB spinner on the DX with built in Trackball and it works great. Personally not happy with the response of the Trackball of the new DX. The Legends Gamer Pro is fine - I think it's set to Medium by default: way better.
There's actually two ways of playing trackball games on the dx. 1st is by using an arcade trackball like we've had on this channel a couple of times now, and the 2nd is by using one in conjunction with a controller board that is present on the dx trackball bartop. This, however turns your analogue trackball into a digital dpad... Most games will work with it (even megadrive titles), but it won't feel at all like a trackball should.
@@TeamPandory Not sure I follow. Basically I see 3 versions of this trackball offered: X/Y, USB, and PS2. The one you show here is the USB version, since Pandora/MAME doesn't support raw X/Y (60-in-1 JAMMA game board does). The trackball in the DX Trackball Bartop is a X/Y trackball - connected to a USB converter. The I-PAC 2 is another example of one of these X/Y trackball to USB converters (as well as other switch / joystick inputs). There is no such thing as an analog trackball - it is all digital pulses. Can you explain what you mean?
I have a Pandora dx jamma as well. I plugged in a trackball into the port that says trackball and nothing. No light. Maybe it doesn’t work but did you have to configure anything in the setup screen to get the dx to recognize the trackball? Thanks.
There's a few things you need to be aware of... I found it was better to use the port that didn't say trackball (but doubt it makes a difference), and have it plugged in before you turn on the pandora box. Also you need to make sure that the game is compatible with the trackball . It is VERY picky when you don't have the "trackball harness". Try getting it to work using Centipede first, before anything else.
@@TeamPandory Thank you. I did plug it into the usb port that I usually place my additional games before I turned it on. The trackball did light up but wasn't recongized by Araknoid. I thought perhaps one needs to set it up in the settings but there was nothing about trackball, just controllers. But I'll try it again this time with centipede. Thanks I'll report back!
Nope. Tried everything. The USB track ball lights up but it’s just not recognized by the Pandora’s box as an input unfortunately. It doesn’t even light up when I plug it into the USB port labeled specifically for trackball. Go figure
What I'm seeing here is that it looks like the track ball might just be a POS. I want to know if this version of Pandora works with a decent track ball, or if the track ball is the issue.
As is, I think each game may need adjusting somewhat to suit the input speed. There is a vertical / horizontal pandora box that has an additional board that converts the trackball signal to digital rather than analogue - This might be better for game compatibility, but I can't see it being a true trackball experience.
This trackball is only the ball, but it has wires to connect up a few buttons. You'd need to create a mount / controller to make it look all nice though.
Love this idea thanks for sharing, would be awesome if you can have a trackball in future pandora's boxes 😅
Yeah... There needs to be an evolutionary change for pandora boxes.
Yeah would be epic.
Oh check out the pandoras trackball edition on Aliexpress. Twin stick with trackball built in looks brilliant.

Yes your probably right.
Great! 😎👍
I also bought the trackball from "SQ Arcade Store" with the Pandora Box Dx 😅
As always, you anticipated me with the review! 😂

Great video, yes lived the dream of the arcade golden age. The best era of gaming in my opinion.

Oh flipping eck!!! How could I have missed that !? Will check today for you.
how did you get the trackball to work with golden tee? Also, how did you adjust the settings for sensitivity?
Would've liked to see how good 720° was with it 🙂

Not exactly pixel perfect, the dx stock ships with a bilinear filter on. We have managed to pull it off in some instances, but it's work in progress
@@TeamPandory Thanks. Do you plug it in Jamma ? What about the 5 and 6 buttons ? I have a kick harness on my JammaSD.
@@daq1882 you may need to re wire the jamma connector for the buttons from 4-6. Basically turn JAMMA to a CHAMMA connector.

@@TeamPandory I just get today.. Is working perfect.. I tested with Arkanoid Out run Pole Position...
Please make a video configuring and playing golden tee classic or 2k on a android box with this trackball... I am wondering if it can be done.
And spinner? Possible? Thank you
Currently don't have a spinner. Will keep my eyes out for one.
Spinner works. Can only have one of the two powered on before launching a game. Either the spinner or trackball so I use a usb hub with switches.
@@luisbaez9278 Do you have a compatible spinner link on pandora dx? Thank you

Btw I'd love to have a Legends Gamer Pro. Unfortunately they're not really sold in Japan like they are in the US

What MAME version did you use to do the setup ?
The Roms that the Pandora DX supports are Mame2003 - aka MAME 0.78. I used mame 0.78 from the official mame homepage.
Want to know if this trackball will be compatible with pc or batocera
Yeah. The ball is pretty much standard usb mouse.

I also tried a trackball mouse but it didn't work! 😂😂😂

You never know.
I reckon it'd work using a regular wired mouse / trackball tbh.

Hey Bro, can you contact me? I'm SQ Arcade owner, we have a triple sensitve tracking ball. I can send you a sample.
Can you test sega sonic the hedgehog?
Ooo. Yeah, can do. Unsure if we'd need a newer version of mame tho.
