Anna has always been one of my favorites of the early Beatles. I kind of wish they had continued doing an occasional cover in their later years; their interpretations were always interesting. I suppose that since they were such prolific writers, they really didn't have room on their albums.
I really love both of these songs, and rate them among the best covers that the Beatles ever recorded .. "Anna" is just so beautiful, and John's emotionally charged vocals are nothing short of wonderful .. "Chains" is just so much fun, and is melodically, harmonically, and rhythmically irresistible to me .. Great reactions to 2 great tracks !
Luke, I am SO ENJOYING your Beatles journey. ESPECIALLY since you are starting at the beginning and going in order, unlike most reactors. I also LOVE how you introduce each song and giving people who don't know, some background on each song. The BEST thing for me is how you are APPRECIATING and LOVING these early songs and covers the Beatles, that so many reactors seem to dismiss, or other people who comment often tell the reactor not to bother listening to their early music. They fail to see that it was those early records that made everyone fall in love with them and their music. I have always felt that people that were not there when the Beatles were popular, could never fully appreciate how much their music evolved and progressed in just 7 1/2 years . THANK YOU, can't wait for the next ones!
I'm thrilled beyond words your'e doing all the Beatles songs in order! Based on your reactions thus far, you will not be disappointed as the journey continues. I am also a big fan of John's vocals. Just something about them. Paul's vocals are nice too, and suited more to the ballads that he chose to sing a lot of the time. Your reactions and expressions when you're finding something interesting or really enjoying it are priceless by the way. Always loved their cover of Anna. Chains is fun but not one of my top of theirs. I believe John played harmonica at the beginning of or even during several songs.
Oh great!!!! Two songs in one reaction, you're great and I can see you enjoyed very much these two songs. That's why these lads are the best, if John managed to sing very well with a cold, the rest we already know is history, and no different than perfection, also you're right about Ringo being so vital, as George once sadi 'if any one of the four wasn't in the band, The Beatles wouldn't exist'. I also like both covers very much!!!
As most of the Beatles' tracks are quite short it is good that you are doing two at a time and listening to the non Lennon and McCartney tracks is essential to hear how the band began.
That's why I love the early to late 60s like Motown and the like , it sounded like they were recorded in a basement , some probably were . You've got to do Motown my fave music with Beatles and so on
Say Hey Luke, I was a big fan of the original version of "Anna real-time in 1962. When the Beatles showed up with this version I was knocked out. The Beatles' covers of other artist's songs were great, also. Smoky Robinson, the great Motown writer and performer, when asked about The Beatles cover of his song 'You Really Got A Hold On Me' simply said, "I love it."
Holy reverb, Batman! Everything is just drenched in it, although it was probably just EMI's standard sound for pop records in early '63. Plus -- like what distortion did for a lot of crappy metal bands in the 80's -- tons of reverb can do wonders to mask dodgy singing and playing. The Beatles didn't really need it, although you can hear that they hadn't quite come into their full powers just yet. Plus you can't blame George Martin for being cautious on his new group's very first album.
It's easy for me to put the Beatles' albums in order from my least favorite to favorite. I just start with Please Please Me and put them in release order. I will fiddle with the top three but, generally speaking, release order works for me. That said, I've always liked these songs.
At the beginning when you mentioned the songs and said 'Anna open bracket, Go To Him close bracket' I couldn't contain a laugh, sorry, but believe me it wasn't because of you, there's a funny story behind the word 'brackets' with one of these guys, I'm attaching two quick links with only few seconds and it's worth listening to, then you'll understand why my laugh This is a small section from the original interview ruclips.net/video/OptwBx4HFLs/видео.html and few days later there was another interview in which, among other things, they asked particularly to repeat that word ruclips.net/video/-2raePgaEoM/видео.html After first listening that interview, whenever someone says 'brackets' I immediately listen to his voice in my head 😄😄
I HOPE he watches those two links you supplied, because I TOO know what you are referring to with "brackets" I have heard those two audios from George and they ARE Hilarious!!
@@patticrichton1135 Really hilarious and I love his pronunciation, I even read some people converted it in a ringtone, that's crazy and adorable at the same time!!!
Love all the songs by The Beatles, but these two are probably my least favorite. Yes, I still find myself sticking around and singing along, so thanks a lot!❤
I don't believe you have taken up the Beatles! You are my hero! Thanks!

Yes, their covers were often more pleasing than the originals. Yes, I wouldn't have minded if they did the odd cover now and then.

I appreciate your thoughtful analyses ... and your obvious joy for great music. Wonderful to see and hear.
Woo!! More Beatles reactions, please!

Great jitterbug song (Chains) these are my favorite Beatles era songs
Anna… another jewel from the Beatles extraordinary repertoire. 💙💙💙💙🎶
Ringo's deft-handed nuanced playing makes him one of the best drummers on the planet. So cool Luke recognizes this.

It's a double barrel Beatle bash
"Chains" is a Brill Building product. The Beatles used to have a lot of influences and they loved Goffin/King as much as Motown songs.
I’m going back through all of your Beatles reactions and loving every minute of it. Thanks for taking this journey. 🌺✌️

Linda Eastman-McCartney was from the Eastman-Kokad family...check it out
No, she wasn't.
Good!

I will now say all future “brackets” in George’s accent 🤣

Ha, John's vioce sounds a bit stuffed up from the cold on "Anna." I like it anyway. But "Chains" is a better song in my humble opinion. Mercy beat.

great group. BEATLES.
