I love Conrad's voice and bad ass attitude. He didnt mind bending the gun barrel over a bodys head. Arness too easy going. Not hard enough. But I loved both characters
"Arness Matt" was compelled to polish up just a tad, thanks to Hollywood / Hays Code restrictions. And I've listened to enough radio episodes for me to conclude that James Arness was the best possible choice for doing any kind of onscreen justice to the Matt Dillon role.
First, Bill Conrad plays the hell out of the character Matt Dillon. And Matt is about the law but very fair and very honest. He is about doing his duty and maintaining not only his honor but even the honor of folks he interacts with. He is a bonafide Super Hero with a tons of integrity, with a zen like mystical vibe. He is what we wish EVERY LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER was...especially today.
@@BIGPREZY Not to take away from William Conrad in the least (he executed the role every bit as splendidly as you've just said) but I've seen plenty of TV episodes in which I would conclude that Jim Arness's gravitas as Matt did Bill's take justice; I don't know that any other TV actor would have accomplished that.
The censors in Hollywood thought that the TV show had too much violence. The TV Show had to tone it down or the show would have been taken off the air.
Doc always complains about being a doc and not getting paid enough or at all but keeps at it. Chester always complains about the quality of food, the price of food and the knuckleheads they have to jail/track drown but he keeps at it. Matt complains about the law, the town’s people interference, the Texas cowboys actin’ a fool, low wages or late payment of his wages and sometimes he complains about having to kill people , but he keeps at it. How come Kitty is the only one that annoys you.
That's ok James was pretty good but William Conrad was perfect for the radio show he is and always will be Marshall Matt Dillon, just like Fred Gwynn will always be Herman Munster to me.
Love these episodes. Thank you for sharing.😎👍
That dang dog lol

We need Matt Dillon to clean out that varmint FJB
Kitty always complains about Dodge and running a saloon/brothel but then keeps at it. Kinda frustrating.
Yeah, Matt needs to tell her to stop acting like a girl.
@@tacoheadmakenzie9311 Matt needs to give some her some D.

OTR employed William Conrad as Matt but when it went to TV they dumped Conrad because he was too plump and hired Arness. Thumbs down.
