Hi Anthony thanks for taking the time to guide us through the catalog. There certainly was a great deal of stuff there to get through. I was impressed by the amount of countries covered in the catalog. Thanks again Anthony. Regards Tom
I appreciate you looking at the video. It may not hold much interest for most, but it was fun to do, and I think fans of model trains in general would like a look at what the otehrs are doing. Thank you again for everything. All the best! Anthony!
Hello, Al. I am very pleased you enjoyed these rather long excursions. I love the window shopping, and, of course, the expectations that something I really want will spring forth from the pages as I turn them. Cheers and all the best to you!
It was a more positive catalog (for my interests) than I had seen the last couple of years from Märklin. I usually find more in their summer and fall catalogs.
Still waiting to buy the stuff from 2022 catalogs. lol The DB 249 is the one that is a "very probable." I debate the Class 77. The BR 218 will depend on its release date. I really like the look of that French steamer (class 13/241) and its matching coaches. So, we also have the summer and fall releases to see what else is coming down the road.
I really do find most steamers to be brilliant pieces of machinery, but some really do shine out. That French Class 13/241 was exquisitely detailed and really stood apart from almost every other steamer in the catalog. Joyce is already telling me, "you do not need a French steamer." We will see where that goes. lol
Yes, I was quite pleased with this year's edition, as the last 2-3 have been bland for my area of the hobby- the tight window that it is (Era VI, passenger, Central European). Thank you for watching. Joyce and I continue to hope for your improvement and look forward to seeing more from your side soon! Cheers!
I find all steamers to be great pieces of engineering in a historical sense, even if it is not my style for modeling. Everyone has something to admire. lol Cheers and thanks for watching!
Hiya, Mark! (just watched your newest) The TEE Rheingold livery is a popular one in the German markets. I don't mind the steam era, but the 50s era on is less appealing to me- but I am in a real minority there. I prefer the new HSTs (ICE3 and ICE4). I think the Vectron 249 is the one definite in this catalog. I may go for the 218 if its release date is closer to the start of the year. Otherwise, I will buy the Roco I pre-ordered. The French steamer and coach set is one of those I would be crazy to do it as it has nothing to do with what I model at all- wrong country, era, etc., but it is so damn cool... This will be determined later. Cheers and take care!
Thanks for watching, JD. I have learned to appreciate American lines and stock from watching the US RUclipsrs, so it is cool if I somehow help it go the other way, too.! Cheers!
Hi Anthony great video and thank you for sharing, I love the class 77 and I'm so tempted with the digital starter set if I didn't have so much 00 scale stuff I would order one today.
Hi Anthony 👍 really enjoyed that my friend. European model railways are miles ahead of uk outline. Love the DB loco with the driver being able to turn and raise hi arm. All the best to you and the family Andy
Well, I think companies like Accurascale are reducing the gap considerably. I was impressed with the Accurascale 92s and some rolling stock I have seen. Thanks for watching and commenting. I truly appreciate your support over the last couple of years! Cheers to you and your family!
I love model train catalogs even if it's for a system i do not use, The old catalogs from before I was born seemed to be written by people who were actually excited by the models.
That is soo true comment... Old catalogue made by people that was excited about trains. I know it's a business this is too all companies but that spark has certainly gone from the hobby ..
I do like catalogs, even if not buying. It's nice to see the products, ranges, and designs. As far as the older catalogs, that melancholy feeling is because the old catalogs were drawn on the covers by folks who were paid to draw. They were judged on the quality of their work, just like photographers today. I do not think it is more or less so today. The goal is to present the models in as great a light as possible, but now cameras have replaced the pencil, pen, and brush. It is like movies from the 30s... it is hard to imagine going back in time and realizing there was color, because it just does not feel right in color. We grew up and that era was black and white. It was one thing to do historical or fantasy or mix (1939 Robin Hood, Wizard of Oz). Always remember, the "good old days" really weren't that good.
The passion will always come from the fans first. Yes, as mega-corporations take over businesses, they eye profit first. They eyed profit first back then, too, but the stuff was made here, in our neighborhood. There's so much to go into, but, in the end, we find the companies who still care and move to them. Whether Roco or Accurascale- companies will come and challenge to make great product and the karmic wheel will turn.
Another great run through Anthony, really like the 'habersack', looks really quite similar to a British Prairie tank loco. Surprised to see the U.P engine though.
Hi, Ben! Thanks for stopping by and watching. Märklin makes 1 AMerican model every couple of years. Sometimes, more than one. 2 years ago, they made a very detailed BigBoy which sold out quickly! They have made F7s many times, including a Classic Coke train, along with some Amtrak models over the years. Piko will occasionally make something for the USA or Canada, but Märklin does seem to try a bit more. I am still hoping they will re-release an Acela Amtrak model soon. I can't find a decent priced older model. Cheers!
24:01 That one was released earlier as a DR class 08 in red/black, one got lost east of the wall in WW2 27:53 Those are still in service but with the front door replaced by a single fixed plate and different windows 35:24 Thats because the number was reused on the Ludmilla after the V320 was sold to Wiebe Gleisbau The coupler thing where they make a big fuss over, including the warnings for the locomotives is an age old complaint about Marklin buffers being too high. The old couplers don't work on the NEM conforming vehicles as they might break the bufferss. For the length thing: most of the coaches are 1:93,5 length. A modern coach in true 1:87 is 30,3 cm in length, with some being longer
Thanks for the info. Most passenger coaches are done in 1:100 (or so I am told). A lot of my Märklin coaches are supposedly 1:93.5. In the German video, it sounded like he said "these will be available in BOTH a 1:100 and 1:93.5 scale." I listened twice and heard the same thing, but may have misunderstood what they were trying to say.
Hi, Raymond! I know a lot of modelers are partial to the V100 or the V200. The 218 is the one I see and have ridden on trains that were pulled by it. So, it is all about familiarity and, for me, era too. Cheers, sir!
Hi Anthony, Thanks for showing us these 3 catalogs it something we would not see if not and are they free or do you have to buy them??? Keep well and safe and enjoying your retirement which I think you are by the number of videos you are doing. Cheers Robert.
Hello, Robert! This "New release" catalogs are free. You can download them, and many shops have copies they put in shipments or give out free. As far as videos, I have finally had some things to do videos about for the first time in a while. I am very up and down and rarely provide interesting content for the average modeler unless they like the comedy bits I put up! Cheers to you, keep well and safe, sir! Anthony
Hi Anthony, I never really followed or knew about the European trains until I found your site. Can’t believe I sat through the whole video..😂. I really like the way you explained everything, your knowledge is amazing. I like the beer car, and the coaches with the tiffany lamps. One question why do the European steam engines have those plates next to the boilers in the front (like they put on horses)? Makes them look really cool, but there must be a reason for them. Well appreciate the catalog review. Great job 👍
Hello, Jorge and thanks for watching. I have VERY limited knowledge of anything train-related (model or real). Outside of understanding eras and knowing my modern German stock, I know very little. The rest Is what the makers and commenters say on certain models. The vertical plates at the front of those locos are smoke deflectors/diffusers. Apparently, high speed steam locos had a problem with smoke blowback from the stacks blocking their vision from the cab. The plates change the airflow to create updrafts pushing the steam/smoke higher away. I guess, in the US, they just built higher smokestacks, but we also did not really go into the real high-speed steamers, either! Cheers!
They were calling it "Dual Mode." As I had not heard of it until very recently, I find it very interesting and think the loco looks cool. All the little bells and whistles just draw me in. lol
hi anthony gre at vidieo i have minitrix DR BR 17 2077 schnelizug Dampflok and a minitrix electric 2980 in n gauge plus the DB 216 011 7 CLASS had them for over 30years
That's very cool, Ian. I am amazed at the detail they now get into N-Scale, but to have them 30 years is even more impressive. I sometimes wonder how much more cool things I could do with my space if I had done N-Scale or even TT, but My hands would not be gentle with N-Scale. I do have one N-Scale loco... a class 218 or 216 (I forget at the moment)- given to me by a friend, even though they knew I did not do N. Cheers!
I was going to go marklin af first but i am gladi did not, although old marklin is cheap, and i need another train system like a hole in the head. DC HO and N scale is enough lol.
Hi Ray! I stumbled into Märklin and I am glad I did. It is weird that int he same breath we can talk about the hobby dying and then talk about all the new and different companies making product. Also, as somebody who came late in age into the hobby, it has been easier (but not without moments of failure) to stick to a narrow range of what I want. lol I got into the hobby just as Märklin was seeing the fruits of Florian Schaeffer's efforts to revitalize the company and took a direct approach on Quality Control and more. The best thing about this hobby is there is a company and style for everyone who understands their limits (time, space, wallet) and can work within those limits.
Well, I wouldn't buy any, as it doesn't fit with what I do, but that set of three was a bit surprising to have been so plastic-looking. They may have been prototypes. As far as HAG- all I have seen is that they are gorgeous locos, but priced for it, too.

A lot of nice ones! All catalogs are nice for eye candy!
