  • Restoring a rusty curve knife I found it at my grandparent's house used to be. The house stood there for more than 50 years, so this knife must be really old, and it shows. After restoration this knife shape like letter “ S “ .

    You made a big error. Always quench in oil when the metal is cherry red. Since you don’t know what you are doing you never checked the hardness.

    the first layer is mud why not just wash it first ?

    You should try normalizing cycle, quench at a certain degree and hold the blade in the oil for a short period. Also need to temper the blade you can use your oven or a toaster oven but a very key ingredient boss. This relaxes the metal structure after the quench finishing the hardening. Without twmper the blade is very brittle. Not being a dick just want you to get the best product.

    Structure must be heated to austenite in order for hardening to occur. 723 deg C for carbon steel. Visibly red hot. If not red hot you are wasting your time.

    ...плохой 🔪 нож получился, не очень удобный и ручка плохая в руке держать не удобно!!!
