That fact that y’all aren’t sobbing through the last 15 minutes blows my mind. I literally can’t even breathe I’m crying so hard when watching it lol you guys are built different 😊
Maybe I missed it or maybe they changed it but the funnest part is getting there. This isn't a big tourist spot. there are no signs , no advertisements. You turn off the road in the middle of nothing and pull up to an unmanned gate. You get out and there is a phone with a drop box. You dial a number and the person on the other end gives you a code and a dollar amount(I think around $4) and hangs up. You put the money in the box, enter the code to open the gate, cross a bridge onto an island where often its just you? No guards, no check in, no stores or money making. You just drive through the empty film. As a movie lover this trip is amazing. glad you had fun.
Love this movie. Reminds me of my relationship with my dad. At some point to feel your not being heard but he actually was. You find out later he's passed that he was. That's the type of situation this movie was about. It's a very Forest-Gumpy like of a movie.
So many people miss the symbolism in this movie. All the caricatures at the end of the movie who come to his funeral are the same ordinary people who were at his "living wake" the movie opens with. The characters at the end not being ordinary people is a metaphor that the son finally accepted his father's version of his life story.
I've spent my whole life in Alabama, born in Huntsville, went to college in Auburn, and am raising a family in Harvest. This movie hits so close to home with me, but takes on a whole new perspective as a father now. I'm sure having a new baby has changed the way you view some of these films Holden.
I was first introduced to this movie my sophomore year of high school by my English teacher. I didn’t understand it initially, but it took me another viewing or two before it finally all made sense. It’s truly beautiful.
This was originally going to be a Steven Spielberg film (and there's still some of those "flights of fantasy" that feel very Spielbergian about BIG FISH). Spielberg worked on its prep until he eventually moved on. The only real thing known about his version was that the elderly Edward was going to be played by Jack Nicholson. Still, it feels like a great blend of both (and it's easily the "sweetest" Tim Burton film since EDWARD SCISSORHANDS) and considering Burton's father had recently passed away before Burton started filming, it feels very much like a true parental tribute (although Burton was never close to either of his parents, having moved in with his grandmother around the time he was in High School). A touching moment Burton recalls in the book BURTON ON BURTON, Burton returned to his family home not long after both of his parents had passed and found posters of his films on their walls and found it touching that, while they had never really been close, in their own way, they had supported their son's love for Film.
The end of this movie destroys me every time! One thing, though, all those people who came to Edward's funeral... Wouldn't it have been nice if they had come to see Edward before he died?
They did! Remember at the beginning of the film the 'living wake' party? Those ordinary looking people are all the same characters from Edward's elaborate stories who came to the funeral...because at the funeral they are a metaphor the son was finally able to 'see them' as their caricature selves because he accepted his father's version of his life. They're are just ordinary people the son is seeing through his father's eyes for the first time.
Ahh, my oldest son was an extra in this film. We live not too far away from Wetumpka where they filmed at the courthouse. I worked at the airport in Montgomery when this was being filmed, and the studio leased a hangar there for storage space and production work. Tim Burton would get on his bike and ride in circles (sometimes closer to one of the taxiways than the airport police were comfortable with). He was a strange bird. It was also a bit of a culture shock for Ewan McGregor. He lived in Montgomery, and remarked about how surprising it was that neighbors would bring him things like home baked pies. He just wasn't used to stuff like that.
Great video. What a gorgeous film to react to. I only saw this because one night when walking past the local movie theatre, I saw Tim Burton's name on a poster and decided that I had to see it. Thank you for shooting commentary in Spectre. Have a nice day.
Some friends and I went to Spectre a couple years ago and there were tons of goats all over the place. The house from the end of the movie that was all bent over was on a road around the outer backside of the island.
Love this film! Big Fish always gives me Twin Peaks vibes. How cool that you visited the “town” of Spectre, I had no idea the set remains are a tourist spot.
Wetumpka is where I live, did you not go see the Big Fish house? It is in downtown Wetumpka, about 15 miles away from Spectre/Jackson Lake Island where you were.
farther southward. physical distance not conceptual distance. "further from the truth" is conceptual, not physical. "south" should be a noun, since it denotes a static space, not movement, nor separation in space.
I was a film projectionist for this when it cabe out and absolutely loved it! I was totally shocked that it was Tim Burton since it does have a few of his signature touches in it, it’s is a very different type of film from his normal. But o Also suspect that the original novel and Steven Spielberg’s original involvement has a lot to do with the fantastic good hearted feel of this film.
I think this is probably one of the top 100 films of all time and Burtons deepest film. it has such a powerful message while also being so creative and weird. They dont make movies like this anymore.
I was just waiting for the shoes to fall seconds after Holden finished getting them up there. You looked exactly how I imaged myself looking if I tried that, glad to see you guys made an adventure out of the movie 😎
When I want to see Ewan outside of Star Wars, there are three movies I play. This, Moulin Rouge, and Down With Love. The last is one I'd love to see a reaction to.
I am such a sucker for father/son relationships in movies. Maybe it's because I miss my own father so much. But movies like this, Field of Dreams... even Return of the Jedi... leave me in tears every time. Good stuff.
Danny DeVito wasn’t the Oompa Loompas in Tim Burton’s Charlie and The Chocolate Factory 🏭 🍫…it was Deep Roy an Indian comedian he plays the creepy clown in this movie in that scene you said is one of thee weirdest scenes ever. Danny DeVito however has been in several Tim Burton films…Dumbo, Big Fish, Mars Attacks, Batman Returns.
So glad you guys reacted to this! One of my all around top 10 best movies! I did notice you of course shouted of ewan but I have to check you on this… Albert finney… please check him out even if just for yourselves. I grew up each year watching him in Scrooge for Xmas but yeah he’s the dad in this and was also in more recently before he passed..Erin brokovich, Bourne ultimatum, oceans 12, the gathering storm…murder on orient express was probably his biggest tho- I’m still going through his movies but he’s amazing and up there with OG goat award IMO his career spanned 60 years. You’ve seen him I’m sure but have to put it out there!
I just bought the who's to say hoodie! I'm in NZ though so hopefully it doesn't take too long to come. First time I've ever bought a youtubers merch, but hey I need a new top and you're my favourite movie comrades ❤ and as for now.. Who's to say?
Interesting fact and not surprising the book is different from movie. The biggest aspect is that Edward Bloom does in fact cheat on his wife while she is pregnant. Personally that would ruin his whole character and story arc with his wife. So I am glad the movie changed that but his son was right to distrust his father because he technically right they just happen to change it to him being wrong.
This is in my "Top 3 movies of all time" and I don't even like Tim Burton movies(but this didn't feel like Burton movie except from a few minor points). The story just means so much to me. ._.
We will have to sort something🤞🏽hope you and Jen had a good valentines, btw have you seen 1993s a dinosaur story it’s a childhood movie I love and I think Jen would really like it too

This movie is super interesting because it’s the story of a man actively resisting the idea that he’s in a Tim Burton movie.
So many people miss the symbolism in this movie. All the caricatures at the end of the movie who come to his funeral are the same ordinary people who were at his "living wake" the movie opens with. The characters at the end not being ordinary people is a metaphor that the son finally accepted his father's version of his life story.
This was my favorite movie for a long time in my childhood, It still holds a special place In my heart.
I've spent my whole life in Alabama, born in Huntsville, went to college in Auburn, and am raising a family in Harvest. This movie hits so close to home with me, but takes on a whole new perspective as a father now. I'm sure having a new baby has changed the way you view some of these films Holden.
How do you not cry at the end of this movie? Heart of stone.

I saw Albert Finney in Tom Jones in a theater, when I was a tadpole.
The end of this movie destroys me every time!

I only just realised a couple months ago that Helena Bonham Carters character had a "lien" on her house and he helped her fix it

5:15 Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton never married, and they broke up in 2014. They do share 2 children.
This movie has very sentimental value to me and my family, nice to see people still enjoy this quirky masterpiece.
It also had the Spider-Man 2 teaser trailer in theaters ;)
Some friends and I went to Spectre a couple years ago and there were tons of goats all over the place. The house from the end of the movie that was all bent over was on a road around the outer backside of the island.
Love this film! Big Fish always gives me Twin Peaks vibes. How cool that you visited the “town” of Spectre, I had no idea the set remains are a tourist spot.
Have always loved this movie! And I didn’t know you could actually visit Spectre, thank you!
Always gets me when he says “the story of my life” at the end.
"Happy Valentine's Day, Jen! I got you a giant bucket filled with your own tears!"
Great reaction guys always love your vids big thumbs up
My favorite movie of all time! All the quirks of Burton I love with a touch of real genuine emotion.
My favorite movie hands down. Thanks for reacting!
The Big Fish Broadway musical is pretty great.
Wetumpka is where I live, did you not go see the Big Fish house? It is in downtown Wetumpka, about 15 miles away from Spectre/Jackson Lake Island where you were.
Yeah, this is such a great movie. One of those that will get me to tear up every single time.

"further from the truth" is conceptual, not physical.
"south" should be a noun, since it denotes a static space, not movement, nor separation in space.
This is one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time!
This movie made me fall in love with going to the movies again.
This is BY FAR Burton's best movie.
I was a film projectionist for this when it cabe out and absolutely loved it! Production value is going up. Very nice! I've always loved this movie too :)
This movie is a top 5 favorite of mine. The story is great and the casting was exceptional. Such a feel good movie.
How did i miss this one??? One of my fav films intorduced to me in my college film class

This is literally one of my 2 favorite movies.
I absolutely LOVE this movie. So happy to see you doing the reaction.

A great movie was one of my favorites back in the day. Still a classic
This and THE TRUMAN SHOW have one of the best endings.
I’m actually involved in my towns local production of Big Fish, just an ensemble part but it’s an absolutely brilliant show.
Happy valentine day both of you
One of my FAVORITE movies 😭
The woman who serves the apple pie is the same woman who plays the Eastern European girl in dodge ball.
Holden is all of us when we watch reactions to this movie 🤣
And this time, it’s an actual fish!
Loved the trip to specter and very much enjoyed watching the film with you two :)
