One of the most devastating knockouts I ever seen. The argument can be made that Sergio Martinez won both fights. This knockout was just as or more devastating than Marquez's knockout of Pacquiao. Good night and sleep tight.
My boy Paul Williams don't get the fuckin credit he deserves as an all time middleweight. I mean this man was a title holder in more than one weight class from welter to middleweight. He fought the best there was as u can see here. His 1st fight with Martinez is my favorite of his n definitely 1 of the greatest middleweight title fights of all time. His resume shows him beat Antonio Margarito in his prime in a vicious brawl that he won by split. He destroyed Winky Wright n Kermit Cintron. Then at the end of his boxing road he outclassed the mouch younger tactician Erislandy Lara by way of old school boxing fundamentals. Give the Punisher props!!
I know I sure give The Punisher mad props. The man was a warrior. I remember watching both fights live and when he got hit with that fortuitous left hook that dropped him cold, my heart broke. Paul is still one of my favs of all time.
Get the hell out with that , Lara completely outboxed him and got robbed. Martinez also got robbed in the first fight and set things straight in the rematch. Winky was shot and Cintron sucks.
Martinez won both fights and made sure the judges didn't rob him the second time. One of the best knockout punches I have ever seen. William last I heard was paralyzed in a motorcycle or automotive accident...I pray that good and decent people are watching and taking care of Williams. Boy do I miss Jim Lampley, Kellerman and the late great Emmanuel Stewart announcing fights on HBO. Their broadcasting was high quality as well were the fights on HBO. All of which are not the case with Showtime and its matches and its broadcasters.
Look, I love a slugfest lord knows and I feel terrible about what happened to Paul Williams outside of the ring but I guess I’m a stickler because all I found myself doing re-watching this fight was screaming “Jesus Christ Martinez pick your god damn hands up!!” immediately followed by “Jesus Christ Williams pick your god damn hands up!” lol. So much for defense from either one of them. OK I’ll crawl back into my boxing dungeon now 😏 Terrific work as always Jeff.
Respect the men but watching Paul Williams fights always irked me, such physical attributes but never took advantage of them, Paul could had been better fighter that he was, his reach was even bigger than Hearn yet he used to fight like a 5,5 inside fighter, whoever trained him failed him if we keep it real
he was a bum a brawler had no skills. Martinez won both fights and exposed Him.every chin breaks at one point Hearns was One of the Best ever in every aspect Williams only had Drive no back not footwork no nothing.he was lucky he had no fight against Pavlik.
Depends. People will say boxing because there are more highly paid guys. There are also thousands of guys making nothing. However in MMA if you get to 8-10 wins, and youre anything above average you have 29 organizations to chose from make 20k a prize fight. Also you'll take far less brain damage
Akshat Joshi Boxing. It’s larger than mma so there’ll be an abundance of low tier guys making less money than low tier guys in the mma. However, those are generally the guys that don’t take Boxing serious as a main source of income. If you’re decent and get a good promoter, you can make 30-80k a fight. And you’ll be fighting a lot until you get that major recognition where a bigger promoter can pick you up and groom you.
Ain't no way this dude would've beat Pretty Boy! Floyd would've pot shot Paul all night and Paul is the longest fighter in Welterweight/Super Welterweight history!
I disagree. Paul woulda been trained to fight Floyd from the outside and pick him apart. No way Floyd dictates the tempo of that fight. His only chance would be to invite Paul to fight his kinda fight and that only happens if Paul is chasing the fight and being desperate. Floyd would have NEVER taken this fight tho.
And they sed William's was going to be the next best thing in boxing just like sed about so many others. And at the end they all got there ass kicked lol
He's not getting up, guys.
Brilliant quote
The referees and the judges always have a favorite, but Martinez cleared it out.

@@yahushaking4367 NOPE, MARTINEZ LOST THE FIRST FIGHT. BUT NICE TRY.

@@ghillepig2 upset my ass. He lost buddy. Paul Williams landed way more punches. Look it up.

Sad what happened to paul williams. a damn shame.

I'm so confused as to why the ref still gave him an 8 count while Williams was out on the canvas
To make sure the fight needed as an official KO instead of TKO I’m pretty sure
just doing his job
just doing his job
That was completely unnecessary. His job is to protect the fighters first and foremost, fight shoulda been waves off immediately and bring in the doc
Martinez an underrated boxer

I watched them live 💪 always professional
Brutal Knockout!!! 💥🥊😵💫😵
MARAVILLA 😃🥊
Why didn't team Golovkin call out Martinez after this or the Pavlik fight 🤔?

Great fights.
Lol ! Martines clearly won this fight
I love Emanuel Steward and may he rest in peace but he was so biased in favor of Williams.
Yeah it was very annoying to hear, perhaps he reminded him of Thomas hearns the way Williams looks
Seems like you're the biased one because Mr steward said Sergio was off balance when he was in fact knocked down
HBO were always blatant shameless cheerleaders.

Cuando un boxeador cae de narices contra la lona no hace falta contarle.

Williams refused to pick up his damn hands and Martinez picked him off with counter punches from all angles.

Boxing. The highest paid mma fighter makes less than a mid level boxer. Conor struck gold by boxing not mma.
