Could I make a suggestion about birdhouses? Birds that nest in holes and crevices - they’re very particular, they need a small entrance hole that reflects the size of their bodies: bigger than that, it’s easy for predators (squirrels or other birds) to get to the eggs and chicks. The big nature/bird charities usually have recommended dimensions for bird boxes / houses, especially the entrance. An alternative is to leave the entrance rim unglazed so that anything they add to close it off can get some grip. Perches at the entrance are perfect for predators, unfortunately.
Absolutely adorable! I love how you let the piece tell you where to go with it, always in the moment. Do you tell you customers not to hang them in the sun? I always do, because stoneware gets hot really fast when it sits in the sun. I have seen cooked little birdies! 😪😪😪
Fantastic! I don't have a turntable, but you can certainly do it with a mold. Could you perhaps show how you glaze/paint your great objects? Besides the glazes, have you ever done anything with oxides? Many thanks for your great tips.
I've done a lot with oxides and pigments. A lot of people have been asking for glaze videos. I just need to find a way to make them enjoyable since glazing is boring. :)
What Cone temp are these fired? Do you typically use Low Fire Glaze? I am most familiar with Cone 6 and the glazes run on the pieces, which is the desired effect, but I am now moving toward handbuilding combined with throwing and I do not want run in my glazing. Any advice you can give is appreciated. Thank you, Beth
Your skills are amazing. Lovely birdhouses! If they're going to be homes for real birds the hole must be smaller so predators can't get in. Not sure I'd want that lovely art outside tho lol.
Ahh, thank you. In our area, the birds are bigger. We don't have little finches or birds like that. We have hummingbirds, but the houses are too big for them. I was thinking bluebirds and such. I leave them out all winter, and they've been fine.
Help! Your clay seems to pull up/cone up like its butter (?). Please let me know what clay brand you are using...I seem to get the B mix Laguna, and it is hard our of the bag. I try to spray and soften but it never gets like what you show in your video. Thanks for any help and yes I am a newbie :)
Can you make one with coils? Throwing and I do not get along, the form keeps getting smaller the more I mess with it and honestly, how many toothpick holders does one person need? Lol
Did you a clay with grog? Will you be leaving them out all winter? Absolutely love these…I’m in freezing Canada 🇨🇦 and hope to make some to withstand our harsh winter weather…any suggestions?
I LOVE your fantasy, your bird houses are absolutely DELICIOUS!!! I love creating, but NOT the glazing!!!🤗
Wish you would show finishing with the glazes.
These are so sweet! I will have to have a go at this!
I love your birdhouses! It would be great if you could re position your camera more to see what you’re doing especially near the end of this video!🥰
Love those! I will definitely put it on my list to try 👍
Love it! Your skill and imagination lends a beautiful magic to all of your art. So lovely 💜💜💜💜💜
Thank you!
Your bird houses are absolutely beautiful, I am certainly going to give one a go.
Clever idea. Sure like the ones I bought from you and have hanging in my yard. ❤️❤️
So beautiful!
ADORABLE!!!!
Какой чудесный и очень волшебный домик.... благодарю за радость и улыбки ❤
Omg this is just beautiful. I’m gonna have a go even though I’m not good on the wheel. 😊
Great idea.

Yes! And thank you. I was thinking yours would be beautiful with slip and carved.
@@hobblecreekpottery I promised I'd make a bird feeder. As soon as I have my white clay I will, with sgraffito! Patience......uuugghhh 😂
❤
Looked like a swan before you added the hole 😊
Beautiful! I'll have to try to reproduce it without a wheel! (That part of the palm you were referencing is the heel of your hand.)
Lol, it came to me after the video, but when I'm filming, I'm chasing words. 😀
I thought about it after I put up the video that I need to show how to hand-build one too.
@@hobblecreekpottery 😂
@@hobblecreekpottery please please x

Bonjour
Vous avez une riche idée c’est magnifique , je me demande si les oiseaux du ciel vont nicher dans vos chefs-d’œuvre s ?
Does birds are living in that house or it’s more decoration than real house?
It’s look very lovely ☺️🥰
They are made for use but so far most are using them for decoration.
All underglazes on the details? These look so fun!!! What's the skill level, trying to throw one of the smaller houses?
Give it a go. Great thing about making them look like nature, they look better if they aren't perfect.

These look soo fun!!! Yours are absolutely beautiful! Do you know of a way to handbuild them?
I've had a lot of people asking that, and I have an idea. Need to play with it first. Stay tuned. 😀

I get bmix from Aardvark here in my area and it's always soft out of the bag. Sometimes too soft. 😀

I'm going to show a handbuilding one, since so many have asked.
Please share the info for the leaves. I have had difficulties finding leaves for this type of application.
The link is in the description. But you can also Google LearnedFiredArts

I do leave them out in the winter, and I haven't had any issues. I'm using bmix with no grog. What part of Canada ?

@@janettewilson5368 I just love Canada and Canadians.
Very nice birdhouse 😍How much Gramm I need for this House?
Do you mean weight? I use roughly 2 to 3 pounds of clay.
So pretty ! How tall in inches is your 5lb one ?
I think it ended about 16 inches tall.
You are amazing!! Aprox what would you sell something like this for?
I sell them from 65 to 125 depending on size.
