      Not a moral right, I agree.
      Unfortunately for us, the Fascists that got elected in '24 don't believe in democracy and their "morals" boil down to "Might makes Right" or "who's going to stop us?". That many were screaming this from the rooftops ahead of the election is irrelevant at this point (no wars candidate, eh?).
      Israel of late works from the same playbook for the same reason(s). Together **we** are the axis of evil.

      @grumpyoldman6503 it’s not like the US started going around the world wrecking entire countries and killing masses of people only after trump became president. This has been going on for a long time. The country is a criminal enterprise, with or without trump. Other presidents were just not quite as brazen and open about the crimes they were authorising.

      @lucyberlin7108 Month ago +1

      I agree with NO KINGS, NO AUTOCRATS. However we need to be precise. Putin does not want the US and Western countries' populations to realize it yet, but Putin's speeches in Russian show that he's been leading Russia in a multi-pronged hybrid World War against us, fed by Russia's oil and gas exports. Key acts included helping Orban's anti-EU authoritarian takeover, the brutal artillery strikes that leveled huge cities like Allepo in Syria triggering a refugee flood into Europe, and fomenting violence, gangs etc in Venezuela, that led to floods of refugees to the US. Our homelands were not attacked by missiles, but it is a war nevertheless, if it is an intentional act to overwhelm the target countries' social supports, and make citizens racist, susceptible to anti-democratic right-wing and populist movements, from AfD in Germany to MAGA in the US. He sees these as stealthy, cheap and effective acts of war.
      So what should we do?
      Putin's goal are to tearing apart the "post-WW-2 World Order" of laws that keep autocrats and bullies in check to prevent a cataclysmic WW-3. His goal is to use these stealthy acts, plus corruption, propaganda, and power-hungry "useful idiots" like the Pro-Brexit leaders to break apart the EU block, NATO, other democratic institutions and traditions in the US, Europe, and to corrupt and control the mineral-rich Caucuses and key countries in the Middle East and Africa.
      But, as strong-men tend to do, Putin surrounded himself by loyal military and intelligence "yes" men who did not give him the truth, so he ordered a quick military invasion of Ukraine in 2022, capture and decapitation of Zelenskyy and a pro-Russia regime change. Does this sound familiar?
      Russia is sharing satellite intelligence with Iran with real-time secret locations of US airplanes, air defenses and soft outposts. Even though Witcoff and Putin and Trump are such buddies.
      Depending on how long Trump's war will last, just 0.5%-5% of the direct cost of Trump's unwise 2026 Middle East War could have funded US AID for a decade, and enough US support for Ukraine's defenses, attack drones and missiles on Russia's oil and gas production to ruin Russian economy and make them sue for peace. But instead, Trump has already nearly doubled the punishingly low oil prices, plus wrote an executive order lifting sanctions on Russia's exports of oil and gas (how much do you bet that Trump "asked" Putin if he'd be willing to sell oil to India and Europe?)
      So what will happen in a few years if we stay out of Russia's war against us, and let avaricious Trump or isolationist Vance let Russia take over Ukraine? When they took over Crimea, they forced the men into Russia's military front-lines, to fight against Ukraine. Imagine the 800,000+ strong Ukrainian army, by far the largest, battle-hardened, drone-savvy armed forces in Europe, forced into the front-lines against our NATO partners in Poland, Romania or the Baltic Countries?

      It's the fraud and corruption of this administration that drives me crazy, especially after they campaigned on removing fraud and abuse from the government. They cut many beneficial programs and gutted government departments, resulting in layoffs for thousands of employees. What was their purpose, I ask myself every day. The only answer that I get --- they only wanted to line their own pockets and screw up this world. They get the money, with no accountability and no oversight. We have been bamboozled big time. Just review expenditure information on members of the administration.

      All people are created equal. It is not a matter of percentages. They are being picked on like other people, unjustly and with prejudice from MAGA. Look at MAGA , They not only say people are not created equal, they TELL everyone which people are not equal. So much for the Declaration of independence, so much for the ideas of Christ. Equality is not debatable. This is a moral imperative.

      We need public service announcements that summarize what HCR covered, saying that the state offices taking voter registration applications are required to verify eligibility, i.e. your citizenship, before adding you to the voter rolls and mailing your card listing your voting location. Once that is done, a more basic form of ID at the polls should be sufficient, as it currently is in many states. In Alabama, there is a list of about a dozen ID’s that qualify and if that is changed under the SAVE America Act, it will truly be voter suppression. Ironically, in Alabama it could have as much impact on rural MAGA voters, since the more educated urban residents are MORE likely to have a passport and they lean Democratic.

    Having come from a conservative Christian community where I spent 25 years as an adult, I suggest that we on the left need to build a parallel type of community to the Church. Nothing religious but rather moral and especially civic. We could study the great thinkers who shaped Western society as well as the way other cultures throughout time structured their societies. And most importantly, act as a central hub for neighborly compassion and resources. The church does the latter very well, which is how they wield so much influence.

    I’m so thankful that I didn’t change my name for my last marriage and kept my maiden name.

    The world would be so much better off with *NO* b!llionaires! We should tax them out of existence!
    For perspective: One m!llion seconds = about 11 and a half days. One b!llion seconds = more than 31 years.
    Who needs that kind of money??
