Ok, so i've been trying this now for like 30 minutes. Here's a huge tip that actually helped me.
Notice his hand. How still it is. Hardly any wasted movement. It is much easier to mimic that, if you grab your wrist with your left arm, and keep your hand still. I removed a lot of wasted movement by doing this, and the pen simply balanced much easier between the fingers.
I can't do it yet, but i'm improving remarkably quick now after holding my hand steady.

Lighter pen is hard to swing in my case. You can put a rubber in one end to put some weight.

Well yeah , moreover the normal pens are just made for you to write and not to do pen spinning so it becomes difficult to spin them as thier centre of gravity is not in centre but at other area ... Moreover if there is a heavy pen , rotating it would be difficult but making it balanced after catching is easy whereas in lighter pens , spinning is easy but not catching them...
