  • Perfect angles and sharp corners can be very difficult to achieve on square cakes with icing. That's why when I make square cakes, I prefer to use this fondant paneling technique! I will show you how to crumb coat and ice a 1/2 sheet cake. Then we will cut the fondant panels to the correct size and assemble it to look like a shoe box!

    I learned my panel technique from Sharon as well! Thank you for sharing how you close the top corner gaps with icing, I always struggled with them not being exactly even. I too hate icing sheet cakes. Every time I took an order I swore it was the last time. They feel so “grocery store” to me. Like you, I don’t mind doing these types though! After watching your videos and realizing this is “my” business and I get to say no to orders that will stress me out, I’ve started turning down people who want them. I’m ok with losing that order for my sanity, lol! And typically there’s another customer around the corner to make up the order I lost. Look forward to watching all your videos! My husband likes to watch them too, he loves all the details!

    Awesome tutorial, thank you for sharing this with us, I’ve never worked with square cakes, they look so intimidating, but the technique you used is amazing, I’ve watched other tutorials and the methods that were used and it would be them rolling out one big piece of fondant and covering the cake but the edges ended up being more rounded, so it didn’t look like a box or square cake… Paneling is definitely the way to go😊!!

      @@KarolynsKakes I was wondering would it work if you piped buttercream down in the corners? Then there wouldn’t be a void and the fondant would have something to “lean” against on the edges/corners.

  • @christystafford1890
    @christystafford1890 Год назад +1

    Someone else made a comment about a collapsible cart. I just went to Florida for the weekend with my daughter and she bought a beach wagon at Walmart for $50 bucks. This would be perfect for these heavy beasts. Hers will carry 250 lbs. I looked online they have several different ones, but if you keep scrolling you'll see the one for like $49•97. It literally folds out in seconds and is easy to collapse back down. This would be a game changer for you I think for places you can't park close to the door of the venue. Plus hers was easy to get into the elevator at our hotel. Hope this helps.

    Is there a reason you used piping gel on the top but water on the sides to adhere the panels together?

  • @cindylepo6784

    Such a great job! Do you always panel square cakes or do you roll out and cover in one piece?

    • @KarolynsKakes
      @KarolynsKakes  Год назад

      I usually panel because I get sharp edges. But, to be honest, I stay away from square cakes as much as possible because they take forever! Even if I cover it in fondant (not panel), it takes a lot of work to get sharp corners.
