Light Magma with Cordovan over Flux

- Check out our featured combo piece for this month showcasing our favorite, SW-128 Cordovan over SW-401 Flux! We made this piece a little extra special by adding a band of SW-406 Light Magma at the top. Watch to see how to roll a liner glaze into your piece and the application technique. The ratio to make a liner glaze is approximately 1 part water to 2 parts glaze.
Step by step instructions:
1. Roll SW-128 Cordovan as liner.
2. Apply 3 coats of SW-405 Light Magma to the top 1/4 of the vase.
3. Apply 2 coats of SW-401 Light Flux.
4. Apply 2 coats of SW-128 Cordovan.
5. Fire to cone 6.

Curious as to the amount of flux used, how does it not run off the vase with it so low to the bottom. Usually flux can’t be applied except the upper 1/3. It looks like 3 Coats of flux.
There are a couple different factors that are going to influence the outcome of Flux. The primary factor with this particular sample is the fact that the glaze it is being layered with, Cordovan, is a very stable glaze. It does not have any mobility or even break over texture. If this same project was done with a more mobile glaze such as Oyster, the results would be much different. The amount of flux applied will also influence this. Here we applied 2 coats and left a couple inches below it in case there was some extra mobility and it worked out great!
