Wassup, yams? It's a bit tricky, but you can mute that string by slightly touching the string with the bottom of your index finger as it's holding down the G on the 6th string. There's a bunch of different methods you can look up, just go with what feels best for you!
do it the second way he showed but if you cant use your thumb then use your pinky for the G on the 4th string 5th fret, the octave from the G on the 3rd fret where his thumb is. But, I would recommend learning to use your thumb to get that base sound. Your thumb also works great for minor chords.
