What an important race for Ulysses this was.The jury was out on whether he was really a Group 1 horse.A typical Stoute improver, given time to develop.Terrific training feat.

Always liked Ulysses, so glad he's got a Group 1.

@Sue Joarder, Classic Sir Michael Stoute slow developer that he's been a master of training over the years. The races he's pointed Ulysses at this season put him spot on for the Coral-Eclipse, and although the commentators seem to think that Barney Roy is the only steadily improving horse in the field, I would argue that Ulysses has also continued to improve just as much as Barney Roy with every race this season. It was certainly no disgrace losing to Highland Reel, arguably the top older middle distance turf horse in Europe at the moment, at Royal-Ascot, and look at the benefits reaped a few weeks later at Sandown!

gberet83, well think highland reel has just lost his title to enable. I know she has to prove herself on the continent yet, but don't think she will have a problem. At first I tried to think who she put me in mind of I said pebbles then frankel their actions are all very similar.

And they meet again at York reminiscent of the Giant Causeway/Kalanisi clashes of 2000.

Hi Sue, couldn't agree more...was sad to see him retire so early but last week I had the privilege of meeting the boy himself at Chevely! Such a gorgeous lad.

Kind of an eventful week for jockey Jim Crowley, who began the week by losing the ride on Eminent to Silvestre de Sousa in the Coral-Eclipse and ended it by winning the Coral-Eclipse on Ulysses!

Needed Ulysses for a patent and thought he won by more than he did ,got a bit worried when I watched the replay , if Queen of Time showed more heart I'd have had a lucky 15 up

First blood, if inconclusively, to the older generation.

Boy this horse has improved so much from 3 to 4. Last season as a 3YO, the only non-maiden race that Ulysses won was the G3 Gordon Stakes at Goodwood. At the end of the year he was beaten by an average at best filly in Chain Of Daisies in the G3 Winter Hill Stakes at Windsor and though his 4th place finish in the Breeders Cup Turf was a decent enough effort, there was still over 6 lengths between himself and Highland Reel that day at Santa Anita. But this season as a 4YO, right out of the gate this horse has been all business, having now logged victories in the G3 Gordon Richards Stakes, G1 Coral-Eclipse, & G1 Juddmonte International Stakes. Plus, a couple of highly creditable placed efforts when finishing 2nd behind star filly Enable in the G1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes and 3rd, only a 1-1/2 lengths behind Highland Reel in the G1 Prince of Wales's Stakes. At this point in the season, Ulysses may well be the most improved older middle distance horse in Europe, IMO.

It's just I have 15Euro accumulator 7fold and useless in the breeders cup turf is the last when I put him in the bet he was 10/1 for champion stakes which lead me to believe he will bypass interesting to see how he runs I know he's has heavy campaign as a 4year old I'm waiting on him for 14K at 9/4 it wil be the closest iv ever got to landing a big 1

Cliffs Of Moher got murdered. Almost on the floor, lost 6 lengths yet beaten less than that at the end. Coolmore messed up big time by using a plodder with a work rider for pacemaker. Shoulda picked a miler to drag them to the 2 pole in a fast time and shoulda had Colm O'Donnahue on it.
