I come from northern India and I stay in Bengaluru for more than 4 years because of my work. I respect the people of Karnataka, who are not just educated but also intelligent. You cannot force someone to talk Hindi, but you can request for it. What happens if someone from Karnatak comes to Bihar or other Indian states and asks the local people to speak Kannada?Would that sounds good to you?This also applies to them if you ask them to speak Hindi.
Hindi is not the language of North india. Remember it. But they do communicate with hindi to outsiders just to communicate.

Im from Karnataka my regional language is Kannada and mother tongue is Tulu....and will come to North India and people call me madrasi (tamil nadu city's name) and they force me talk in hindi ...and i dont know it....

I studied in Bangalore back in 1992 , kannadiga people are most loving and humble and i still can speak kannada. It has many sanskrit words and easy to learn . One should love and respect local language.

Why are you imposing the local language to a person who is not interested in learning that language? She knows Bengali, Hindi and English. I think that's more than enough for her. You can't expect anyone to learn local languages every time they go anywhere. If tomorrow she goes to Tamil Nadu or Gujarat or Maharashtra then again she needs to learn that ocal language of the area or Kannada will work? Is one local language(regional language) sufficient for the entire India? Or according to you, people should go to those states only whose state language they know?

I am from Odisha , and I completely disagree with what that Odisha girl wanted to say....We have some Tamilians in our neighborhood, they speak Odia so fluently like their mother tongue....Even I also know many Punjabis, Gujrati people who are living in Odisha, believe me their Odia is more fluent than the locals...... Simple thing is you can't change a vast community like the Britishers did in past with us to learn English, you have to change yourself according to the region.....Karnataka is a big state, area wise also it is larger than many big developed countries . You went there for work ,so you have to change yourself....There is also a saying:- When in Rome ,do as the Romans do...

I agree with you, i worked in Maharastra and Delhi. When i was in maharastra, no matter which state you come from everyone was speaking in Marathi even kerala and tamil people who were living there. Here in delhi also many of my colleague are from Tamil Nadu and Andra Pradesh they communicate here in Hindi. So why we are hestitate to learn there local langauge when we are living there.🤷♀

As a Hindi native speaker, we cannot force someone in Karnataka to speak in Hindi , rather then Kannadiga !! Hindi is not a national language .... Kanadigga and Tamil are both as beautiful as Hindi, rather people going to these states should learn a bit Kannadiga and Tamil !!! Tell me one thing - when you go to France , US , Japan - can you force them to speak in Hindi or do you force them ? Then why such doouble standards with our own Tamil and Kannadiga people ?

Even after 13 years in Bengaluru I am atleast not facing any barrier. The problem if you are in a land with different language, you must try to grasp some very basic words from that language. And the people who are complaining about language barrier, when (and if) you go to Germany France Japan and ask them to speak in Hindi or English.

I think Karnataka should introduce some levels of Kannada to be made mandatory to work in Karnataka. For example most employers in Germany expect you to clear A1, A2 German Language Levels.
When the south Indians go to the North they are expected to know Hindi. When the north Indians come to the South, the South Indians are expected to communicate in Hindi. Joke!

You can speak Hindi and get your word across in the majority of North Indian and Eastern States, it's not the same for Southern India. Malyalis, Tamilians, and Kannadigas themselves have many scuffles amidst them. Learning a language is good but expecting someone to be fluent at it isn't.

I have been living in south india for a decade now. Studied in coimbatore - learned Tamil. Have malyalli frends - learns Malayalam. Working in bangalore - understand kannada and speaks basics. You cannot force indigenous people from the state to talk in another language than thier mother tongue. I just felt arrogance in the voice of those student.

I am North Indian but was born and brought up in Odisha. I along with many of my batch mates moved to Bangalore in 2003 to seek job and finally settled there. If i have to pick one place in South India apart from Hyderabad where people speak decent Hindi is Bangalore. I never had any issue in terms of language in my day to day life. There will be instances where people would know basic Hindi but that will be just enough for you to get things done and we should be grateful to the people of Bangalore and Karnataka. Not sure where on earth these kids live in Bangalore!!!

I support the Kanada language movement. I have seen that South Indians who lived in north India can speak fluent Hindi so why can't people from other parts of India living in South India should learn local languages?
I have stayed in Bangalore for over 5 years. Now able to speak broken Kannada and most people are very cooperative. There are exceptions and few people do get irritated sometimes, maybe their day was not good or had any domestic issue 😅
If you go to European countries, most of them do not even understand English. You need to know basic language even before you travel. Similarly when you visit southern states, they will certainly help you but you also put effort.

Very good discussion, I am from Mangalore Karnataka, I am working in Saudi Arabia, here my question to those who are opposing Kannada or forcing to speak in Hindi, can I force my localites here in Saudi to speak my language or should I learn Arabic to communicate with them??
It will be very easy for us to communicate with people if we know some languages at least we can manage with people, if you have a interest to learn, So my opinion is, learn the local languages where you are working or studying. India is a country of so many languages.

Here the discussion was regarding language so I set my example once again I conclude that wherever you stay which were part of the world try to learn their language if I am staying in France I need to learn French if I am staying in Germany then German in China Chinese so you like that so that was my opinion.

I am from odisha and sure that the girl is not odia. In our capital Bhubaneswar,these people always imposed hindi by saying it is the national language. There is a rule in some schools in odisha,who have rules that if you speak other than English,you will be fined.But students communicate only in hindi.

* If you are a poor south Indian going to work in Delhi, you should speak Hindi because Hindi is spoken there, so the burden is on you to learn a new language.
* If you are a rich south Indian accommodating and employing migrant labours, you should speak Hindi because it is not fair to expect them to learn a new language.

I agree with you, Saurabh Dwivedi Ji. People living in the state should adopt to the local language and culture. Persons of other states want the locals (auto drivers etc) to communicate in Hindi or English. Instead, but they should learn the basics of local language.
If this is prevailed and given support then In India itself we hv to learn 29diff languages Sir. Development leans on communication. When celebrities if I focus on specially South India who recently even went to collect the Oscar should hv used local language to address and communicate the audience but it didn't happen bcoz its impractical, English is the only way there. So ofcourse learning some basics of local language is good. But if people start forcing to do so then so-called intelligence,education and maturity is null and void

Just on 20th may I had a bike accident near Goa border in Karnataka, just because my bike passing number is Maharashtra and I start talking in Hindi no one comes to help me. After 15 minutes 1 can come from Goa side they help me
I traveled 2 time all india bike ride, specially why this happened only in Karnataka
